So for the nakamura throttle technique would you want a 1.5 way or 2 way LSD?
I’m not sure why you posted on this chaps comment, but for drifting a 2 way is usually the best option in my experience.
This is literally the best video I've seen in years 😍 I understood it completely. You're right it's super difficult to explain in words (even Japanese words 😂) but you did it very well. I learned a ton. I've actually naturally put some of these techniques into practice organically just by learning car control lap after lap it's cool to hear it spelled out visually. Since I'm into drifting, and to be honest it's since I'm 13 years old, I very quickly understood that there is something to the Japanese style of drifting that made me really love drifting the way I still do today. But I never really knew how to describe it.
It's now 13 years later, that finally someone described it so clearly and perfectly.

Bruh you're damn right!!! I live on a small island where most drift knowledge I have to source it online because local drifters here doesn't know much apart from the basics and I've asked bunch of known west drifters online like, like hey how do you get the squat setup etc... they just keep it a secret like it was a damn KFC recipe, I've asked 2 japanese drifters that were kind enough to explain to me their general setups but for them its that normal to have the rear setup like that, they'll just tell you, " yea i just have a simple coilover set and nothing else particular" haha.. well know thanks to this video i understand everything i wanted to know! time to wrench haha :D @drift crash
This is on the money. The way that they breakdown each segment of a drift to where each thing can be perfected (and regional at the same time) is really fucking cool.
We'll all look back at this video one day and realize how top tier this info was/is. Spoken so casually yet extremely informative for anyone that might even only have basic understanding of how everything seems to work. You've explained things more clearly and eloquently in 25 mins than others have with years and years of content. Keep it up man.

I've always had this gut feeling about drifting that I could never put into words. I've been drifting for only a year now, but I always FELT that the car should be set up the way you're describing it in order for me to get that Japanese style of driving the car. People called me crazy, stupid, etc. I finally have a video to send to those people to get educated, thank you for this.

Loved this video, perfectly explains the reason to why i like Japanese drifting better than the typical "western" style of drifting. The japanese form of drifting is what i chase for on the simulator, agressive, snappy transitions, lots of grip and so on. Hopefully next year I'll be able to buy myself a car and start drifting, not just out and about on the wet and snow with the daily. lol
Loved the fact you mentioned Norway, winter over here is nothing else than skidding about, man, makes me miss my E39 525D.

Re-watching in 2022 after getting back into drifting games on PC (mainly CarXdrift on PC) wanted to re-aquaint with the OG techniques to refresh the memory of the things I learned from you whilst RC drifting, mad to see how far you style has come in just 2 years, and damn, those rowdy SRs have fast become one of my fave sounding engines!
Love the video dude! I'm going to share this in our RC drifting group because it relates so much! Using the springs and the squat to snap, using throttle control and the correct gearing to gain speed etc. instead of just mashing the throttle and melt the tires.

To add something that Sleepy-san once told me for professional competitions "Most West drifting competitions are judged when you are on throttle in the track (powerslide), in Japan it's when you are off (slingshot) ".

Absolutely class video mate, loved it! Never really thought about a lot of the things you mentioned, like the Japanese car's nose up stance in drift,so it was a definite eye opener! There's definitely a lot more to it than is apparent at first glance!

Really enjoying the drift crash channel mate latest video is ace and I have taken a lot from it and the one with Julian was awesome he’s the reason I got into drifting met him at a drift day I done with my brother back in 2010 before I could drive he was there doing lessons and took me out in the 34 and I was hooked from that day forward remember him telling me about the drift bible and getting it on dvd before it was on youtube and watching it religiously lol

Enjoyable watch dude. Have definitely wanted to try an LSD for the adjustment factor.
I learned on an S15 helical for the first two years, Tried a welded for a season and had to go back to an LSD.. Been running a Tomei 2 way since 2013 and won't settle for less!
@Daniel Minic I've heard good things about nismo diffs. Never driven on the pro model though. Must be nice.
Honestly clutch pack LSD’s are the way to go. I’ve had my Kaaz 2-way for 15 years and it still does what I want it to.

Awesome vid! Speaking specifically about Meihan, it's really interesting to see how the style has developed. Looking at footage from early 2000's Kansai Allstar, to Team Burst in the mid 2000's, to Naoki in D1SL late 2000's to early 2010's, and then to now. Then seeing how that progression has affected the rest of Japanese drifting. The shakotaka "movement" is also interesting to look at. Basically taking all these principles and pushing them as far as they can go. Such a rabbit whole but a really fun one, especially in these times with nothing to do. Excited to see your take on Western drifting!

thank youuu! i've been drifting since 2007~ and i feel like i haven't learned this much in a decade, just kinda been wingin' it. i learned the meihan line and throttle technique in assetto corsa by trial and error and when i got it right i thought," oh wow there is something fundamentally different going on here," but i couldn't put it into words. kinda sad that i was able to accept that i "knew something" i couldn't explain, but it feels WAY better now being able to explain it to others.
i've had several people come up to me throughout the years complimenting my "oldschool japanese style" of driving and i was like oh what the hell, was i left behind? LOL oh well, feelsgoodman!

This video has singlehandedly clarified so MUCH for me that it has reinvigorated my desire to drift .
I'm 44 and I have my very first real drift car a 95 S14 with an SR20det.
I don't want an LS engine . I remember first hearing about drifting back in the late 90s. And that is the style that I want to stick to. Real world tougue but at a track safely .
I don't need some 500hp beast I just want to drift learn perfect my technique and hang with like minded individuals! Thanks for the GREAT upload !!

This was an awesome video, good to know there are people out there that actually understand the finer details of technique like this and it's relationship to suspension set up. So many lost driver's out there, good to spread this info to help people. Too easy to just buy a bunch of parts someone recommended that will not help you achieve what you're trying to do and suit the car/track/skill level. Will be interested at watching more of this!!

Man epic content! Never paid much attention to the Drift or import car scene at all. Always been a fan of Motorsports though (My Stepdad raced a Corvette in Escort Playboy Enduro Series back in the eighties). Would occasionally watch a Ken Block clip and be super impressed but the only Motorsport I was realistically able afford was motocross and now have one of the modern/classic Kawasaki 1200ZRX's that I'm setting up for track. However, during confinement I stumbled on a Papadakis 2JZ build and now I'm fricking hooked!- Devouring drifting vids and scouring thousands of comments daily for any nuggets of drifting gold! My fiancee is Japanese and we're moving back to her city of Okayama so looking forward to learning the track and set-ups with all the OG's that have been driving there for decades. Anyways the message of your video really touches on the essence of Japanese Culture and how they learn (which volumes have been written about). From purely a driving standpoint though the point you mentioned of action & reaction relates directly to a Judo throw and how they've practiced them for centuries. That is: thousands of repetition s and breaking down a move in different segments. Now of course with YT we're interacting with billions of people that offer their insights which often leads to branching out to other tangents. One comment mentioned C's Car Garage in NZ so I went to that a listened to the low-key Kiwi Adam talk about his Naoki inspired suspension set-up. Whoever mentioned that-thank you. Why? because Adam talks about how he was so focused on parts that once he obtained them he was bored. Lesson- focus on the art of drifting and not the gear! He was going back to stock lsd diff and knuckles with other Naoki inspired set-up tips.
So now my technical questions:
You mention how the The Japanese tend to flutter the gas. Any specific set up tips they like to use? i.e. boost settings or intake manifold tech. Second, I've watched Taguchi's Hoonigan yard run GoPro footage and the H-pattern dogbox with slightly higher e-brake seems super fluid- another secret to drifting technical tracks? If your partner is Japanese and you speak some of the language, you will of course have a much better grasp of the culture and approach to things. BUT... do not overly concern yourself with parts, products or brand names. If you are new to the game, a simple car, with working components will be enough.
When do you plan on getting to Okayama? It’s a great place, I’ve been a couple of times 🙂✌️

You need to stop this Mr Mitto! Your episodes are confirming things I’ve said for years but on a far more intelligent and dare I say it geeky level but this is a good thing. This episode taught me why I’ve always loved the Japanese style of drifting but didn’t know the mechanics behind why. This level of detail is hard to find, keep the good work up mate 👍🏻
