So you’re saying in order to do the Japanese set up, I should jack the car up until it’s at full droop, make sure the top two collar rings that hold the spring are loose, and the damper is still at full droop, and then move the collars so they’re up on the spring with no preload and just touching the spring to the top without any actual pressure and then lock it up? And then that’s it?

2004 saw the release of Need for Speed: Underground 2 which heavily featured drifting. I would think that was pretty important too? Not that I know anything about drifting.

so we are adding front preload, which allows the dampener to not compress as much when it sees the weight of the car so when it tries to travels it will top out? Also the FAST/SLOW dampening equation. does soft = fast because it allows the spring to compress and load up the car?

Watching your channel 3 years after your last upload in Australia. A update would be cool, interesting to get your perspective on what happened to this channel because you hint at some negative experiences in the drift community/competition scene. I personally have been involved in drift track days since the early 2000’s have taken breaks from the scene, then got back in. Can’t say I’ve ever had a bad experience from other members of drift community, other than frustration at overcrowded events and beginners wasting track time doing beginner things. I’m interested in your take on UK scene and pro vs amateur classes, if you still drift. Make a vid, f””k the haters.

I've always had this gut feeling about drifting that I could never put into words. I've been drifting for only a year now, but I always FELT that the car should be set up the way you're describing it in order for me to get that Japanese style of driving the car. People called me crazy, stupid, etc. I finally have a video to send to those people to get educated, thank you for this.

Great vid and a beautiful engine. I have a 400hp S13 in my mainly circuit sprinting 700kg Lotus 7 style car. I've rebuilt the engine three times in 12 years but only once due to a catastrophic failure. I am very envious of your GT25 but my old Disco Potato refuses to die! A couple of comments. I have found no benefit in iridium plugs. A copper plug gapped at 0.7 works fine at any boost level. I had iridiums but they were unreliable and did not last. Also I use OEM coil packs - I replaced them as a maintenance move, but the original 25 year old ones were still working fine. And yes the SR is a great engine. In my open car in third gear at full boost the sound is awesome and I feel like the god of horsepower.

This channel is so awesome to look towards as a point of reference/guide for the people like me who are trying to get into drifting and don't have anywhere else to go, Thanks and I hope to see more videos in the future.

Once you have the weight of the car on the damper. Do you just raise or lower the lower sping perch to get the car to sit at halfway through the dampers' range of travel?

Quick question: I have a is300 with a stock 2jz (around 200hp and tq) and I was wondering if you think I would be able to spin up used 265s and get better life compared to what I'm currently running which is 215s. I know you mentioned running higher pressure on wider tires but I'm curious how wide I could run with very little hp.

hi maybe late to the party but im looking to change up from nankang ns2-r's in the front to a different semi slick. what would you reccomend from these zeknovas for normal road use and learner drifting? also im looking for a semi slick with better grip in the wet. my rear tires are nankan ns20's, not the best rears but the grip fine in both dry and wet. Any reccomendations?

I can comfirm that owning a 200sx living in norway can be pretty shit as you have to make the most of it for the 3-4 months where it's not below 10°c or 50°f for you Americans 😉
