      I thought I gave the Army the best of me…. Came out a bit broken. Got even more broken after the FACT but just takes some time and work arounds to get back at it. Muscle memory is insanely efficient. I’m in far better shape than I was before breaking my femur TWICE. I can’t run like I used to… who tf needed to run an 11 min two mile idk but I did so I can live with what I’ve got.

      I've ruptured my quad tendon, I've got a couple of bad disks in my neck, and a couple of really bad disks in my lower back. The disks in my lower back had me thinking "if this is what my life is going to be like, I don't want to be alive".
      I said f*ck that, I don't want to be broken anymore and I'm not going to make excuses. I wasd also addicted to several substances at the time. I learned to work around my challenges and, at 47, I am in the best shape of my life. My career is light years ahead of what it was and my mental health is such that I have the strength to pick other people up when they are struggling and raise 2 rebellious and stubborn teenage boys.
      When I was 25, I was stronger and faster, but my diet was sh*t and I was drinking and using drugs and smoking. I have days where it's very hard to get out of bed or where I'm miserable all day. And sometimes those days turn into weeks. So I double down on my PT exercises and push through it because I don't want to be a quitter or a weakling.
      If you've already decided you are a "physically broken man", then that's what you are. I don't know your personal situation and I would never judge you, because I've been there. But it can always be better.
      Pat Mac could say the same thing. Lots of injuries and I guarantee he has plenty of days when he's hurting like hell. He's a certified badass, but he's a human, just like you and me. He could say "I'm a broken man" and then get busy dying. But he's convinced himself that isn't the right path and so can you.
      Change your mindset to "I used to be a broken man, but I'm going to put in the work to change that" or just "I am a strong man who CAN overcome my challenges" and watch yourself grow into something that you never thought you could become.

    • @gunsandcommissions
      @gunsandcommissions 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@hailtothe_rooster1572 gets it. Stop thinking in terms of "I've got to be the athlete I was 20 years ago" and think in terms of small, achievable goals like "I am going to the gym 2x a week and will walk my dog for 2 miles, 3x a week."
      Start small and celebrate those little wins. Who cares what anyone else thinks or is doing or capable of. Prove to yourself that you can do it and f*ck the detractors or those who think you should do more.
      To walk a mile, you've got to first take a single step. Then another. Then another. You don't just jump to the end in one stride.

      @@Cheesusrice69222 Absolutely. I've been training in mixed martial arts for 5 years & there is always a component of rotation through the hips. Wrestling could be considered more of a saggital practice but there's always a carry over with transverse movements.

    Great stuff there. I got back into training 3 months ago, after several years off and getting fat, weak, and lazy. I concentrate solely on functional strength and functional fitness. Got a lil home gym and I train about 6 days a week covering all points: power, strength, hypertrophy, speed, quickness, with endurance and flexibility/mobility added in. Weekly workouts are never the same, so I totally agree about changing things up. It keeps things interesting and the shook value is off the charts.

    Thank you Pat! First time I have seen one of your videos. I have been doing a similar routine for about two years. I have found this is the best way to get in shape without having to be singularly focused on lifting weights or doing crazy cardio to be combat worthy.
    My initial thought and motivation for getting in some form of combat shape was to be ready, at all times, to be able to defend myself, others, and establish a precedent for my young children to always be, at the very least, a bit dangerous, if needed.
    This type of physical training, which does not require a gym membership, dates all the way back to Ancient Greece and Spartan life to always be physically prepared for survival/combat. Learning this history helped motivate me to spend less time on my ass and be in the kind of shape that can, at the very least, be deterrent for a would be aggressor.

    I appreciate all the info. I’ve been putting a lot of this to use the past few weeks and I have been enjoying it. You actually introduced me to how to use bands and it has really been a game changer. Thank you.

    This has totally opened my eyes to how limited my workout routine is- lifting and running. I’m starting working in these other aspects asap
