  • It snowed again last night, so it was time to move snow around again with the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic and the Fisher HT plow. I think this was practice for the big storm we are expecting this coming weekend.

    Is ur truck a V8 or V6?

    • @todddunn945
      @todddunn945  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a V8. However, before I bought this truck I had a V6 Chevy Silverado 1500 that did a good jib plowing.

    I googled ram 1500 snow plow and here I am. I'm scared to put a plow on my 2015 ram 1500 with airshocks. Love the air shocks but I bet they're not plow worthy. Can that truck handle big snow, where are you located?

    • @todddunn945
      @todddunn945  ปีที่แล้ว

      Mane. I have a Fsher HT, which is a plow designed for a half ton truck. The plow weighs about 450 lbs. I would read the specs on the air shocks very closely before adding that weight to a truck with air shocks.

    How much was that setup? Tia

      The plow cost about $4K back in 2011.

    If you can’t back drag that snow in front of the garage you have no business plowing. That’s rookie stuff. That light snow would not have packed down. I’ve had a lighter plow than that and it worked just fine.

      I have been plowing for 14 years. We almost always get wet snow because of the proximity to the ocean. The only to back blade is to not set the plow down completely. That leaves snow and also packs the snow The reason is that this Fisher HT plow goes into float mode when it is all the way down. That is designed to let the plow follow an uneven surface without digging in.. When in float mode the plow behaves as if it is a much lighter plow and always packs the snow. I only have a small area where I can't push the snow off, so I spend a few minuted before I start shoveling the from that area into the area I can push it off of.

    What is your ground clearance , do you ever have issues with the mount hiting thr ground

    • @todddunn945
      @todddunn945  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ground clearance at the mount is quite low. Without going out to measure it, I would say about 5". Yes I have scraped the mount a few times on a couple of rocks around the edge of my drive. No damage though. I don't go off road, although sometimes in the spring the pot holes in my road can make it feel like an off road experience.

      @Todd Dunn thank you I really appreciate your response, I don't think I'll going to go thou with the ram only because I do alot of off reading/ hunting snd fishing so I think that would be a issues I never had that problem with my 1500 chev that was a 2008 and the plow brackets had to be atleast a good 12" off the ground and my truck only had a 2" level kit

      @@woods702 Remember my truck is a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic. The newer Ram design has very different plow mounts. I had a Silverado before this truck and the plow mounts were much higher. Enough higher that they had to make cutouts in the front of the truck for them.

    • @woods702
      @woods702 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea the truck I was going to get was a 2015 ram 1500 but I'm going to look for a chev now if I can find one not rusted out that was mainly why I looked at the dodge because they can make a frame unlike chev

    • @todddunn945
      @todddunn945  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@woods702 I agree about the frame. I got rid of my 2011 Silverado because the tubular frame was totally rusted out. I picked the Ram 1500 Classic largely because of the frame and I wanted a heavier truck than the Aluminum Ford F150.

    You did a GREAT job plowing! Your neighbors are lucky to have YOU as a neighbor! Great job plowing the road!! 👍👍👍

      @todddunn945  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words Maureen. Since I am plowing my own place, I tend to take a bit more time than a commercial plow operator. The neighbors between my place and the public road have their drives plowed commercially. Sometimes I do the road before the commercial people show up and sometime not. In any case I clean the road up to make it easier for us to get out. I also often plow when the commercial operators don't because there is not enough snow to trigger them to show up. Thanks for watching.

      You are welcome. Yes Saturday is now looking like a snow day with 16" to 22" forecast. I plan to plow Saturday afternoon and then again on Sunday. This will be the first real test of the Ram 1500. I expect the truck to handle the snow easily.

    We in Alabama never get that much snow

    • @todddunn945

      By Maine standards, this was "just a Dusting". We are currently forecast to get over a foot this coming Saturday. I am not looking forward to that. Thanks for watching.

    My wife loved the snow and the trees. Annie (Ann Marie Leimer, PhD) is from Minnesota. As for me, I see you have a big driveway. Perfect for parking an RV. When does it warm up to at least 65 degrees Fahrenheit on a consistent basis?

    • @todddunn945
      @todddunn945  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The weather warms up to be consistently in the 60s in May. In July and August it gets hot away from the water (a mile of so inland) and is often in the 80s and can get over 90. This area is quite pretty. I suppose that is the reason we have a National Park here. Incidentally I had a group of Texas visitors a couple of years ago in late July. They were easily identifiable by their dress (down jackets, Levis, cowboy boots with spurs and 10 gallon Stetsons). I took them out on the boat, but I insisted they take the spurs off.

      @@todddunn945 I'd recommend getting rid of the inflatable dinghy. Hopefully, I won't look like a rube should Annie and I be fortunate enough to visit your beautiful region ... in the summer.

      @@RVTA I have a fiberglass dinghy you can row if you wish. If you come up, I will move the sailboat to the marina so no dinghy ride is needed. We have been using the inflatable because it is more stable which Linda likes. I prefer the fiberglass dinghy, but she doesn't like it.

      @@todddunn945 You are way too generous. Keep the videos coming. My idea of a good time in Maine would be strolling with Annie downtown. Plus enjoying a restaurant meal and some drip coffee at a local cafe or three. Yes, I do enjoy sitting, talking and checking out the locals. My wife would definitely love to share stories with the both of you while I quietly nod my head in the background. At least a half of my time would be spent shooting video and photos of the ha'ba lighthouses and nature. Of course. My wife often comments that I a creature of the desert Southwest. One that doesn't slink. The Southwest is my comfortable corner of the USA. Maine is visually and culturally quite different. Again, a 4,000+ mile eastward RVing adventure would break character. New Englanders claim to be the oldest European colonized region of the country. Let's not forget Santa Fe. Stay warm.
