Following on from initial tests with uprated Cardan Shafts for the Class 50, I have been testing the latest developments from This Way Works. These are a range of very advanced cardan shafts specifically made for both the Hornby Class 43 and the Hornby Class 50 models in TT:120
    ‘Stay in shafts’
Zero modifications are required to fit these, I’ll pop a link in for the original shaft fitting video I did, that walks you through the who process start to finish including removing and refitting the bodyshells.
These really are a game changer in terms of engineered design.
As always High Fell is free of any commercial influence and exists purely to share information and enjoyment of the hobby.

Link to Hornby TT:120 class 43 full year down, use this in to see how to disassemble the class 43 to enable fitting the replacement Cardan Shafts. It’s very similar to the Class 50 in logic. Watch both and if you are not sure ask 😁👍

Excellent job by TWW. I really wasn't aware of all these TT120 issues
I would love a class 50 in TT and O gauges. Just to add the my class 50 collection

TBH, there are not so many issues, the shafts are a rare issue, this just clears it up. The early 3pole motors are the same as most people have seen in N too. The TT:120 50 Is a fine damn fine machine and I’m happy to have a couple, same with 43. You can pretty much name any brand and I know of failings, except maybe Piko, they build exceptional mechanisms. ALL the British brands have a lot of catching up to do.

@@47606odin we are at the cutting edge of development here! This development is more driven by the lack of supply of the previous option and also finding a solution for class 43 too. When you are engineering a fix you might as well go all in 😁👍

Always enjoy the info on TT120. I'm at the start of my return to model railways, just got an easterner set to kick around with at the moment and thinking of a simple set track layout to practice scenery first. Sorry if I've missed it but do you have an overview of your layout which mentions dimensions etc so I can get any idea of what space is needed? It looks like it fits a lot in there without feeling cramped.

Great to have you along. You are where I was nearly 2 years ago! Getting into scenery has been brilliant fun having never got too far before. Hopefully if I have done this right there is a link here to take you to the Hornby forum and you will find some track plans and dimensions for a range of layouts including High Fell 😁
