- I needed to scratch build a fence this week, but as I also needed to 'test the fiddle yard'...a good running session was in order!
Cheers

All of your stuff is mindblowing. Thank you for inspiring me to pursue making my own 009 layout. Never stop what you do
Hello msr studio . I was watching your smudger video couple days ago
Cheers mate, that means alot
This is such a beautiful project. And then at 4:50 you open the segment of running trains with this expansive opening scene and I forgot my name it was so beautiful. Wow!
Cheers mate, glad you like where it’s going
Great video George, already love the look even with limited scenics in place. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the layout progress. Keep up the great work.
Cheers mate, I’m trying to focus on the layout over the next few weeks, so stay tuned for that!
Very fab! Interesting way of making a fence & I love seeing it all up & going. Also saw your video about mental health very great video and good to know as I can relate to some of that stuff. Cheers :)
Glad you like where it’s going. Yeah when they asked to do a couple of videos for mental health, I was more than happy to
It’s looking great can’t wait to see the finished work.
The biggest hurdle is going to be trees, I’m still undecided the best approach as they’re a fair few of them!
In spite of your sleep inducing "Interstellar" type soundtrack, I was able to watch this whole incredible video.. Once again I thank you for your attention to detail and your self-deprecating humor. Well done you.
@@kevinyates2790 cheers mate, glad you’re enjoying it
Wow. This is coming along so fine. Attention to detail and being a nerd really pays of. Actually love the music you chose for the running session. Have a nice weekend. Cheers.
Yes, the Nerds shall rise! Cheers
Incredible George!
Cheers!
I won’t go on but, seriously, you could hook a loop to the other end of the station and just watch trains moving through the opening scene (at 9:56 ) and feel lost in how great this looks.
Cheers!
Great stuff. So nice to see the layout running too. 👍🏻 Pretty sure you cut the mesh at 45 degrees not 90 tho! 🤔😉
Dammit, yes what a silly mistake!
Wow, the attention to detail is incredible!
You've done a great job so far George
Cheers mate, it’s coming on slowly! I’m trying to concentrate more on the layout over the next few weeks to push it forward
@@GWilliamsonModels
I look forward to seeing more great scenics!
Layout is looking great, enjoyed the running session.
Glad you enjoyed it
wow coming along so well
Cheers, yes, slowly!
Awesome and inspirational work as always George. You have posted lots if videos of the station end of things but i don't recall seeing much of the other end of the layout other than the few bits we see here. I've probably missed a video and you'll soon let me know.
Do you mean the left side where the incline starts? I’m actually doing that for next weeks video
@@GWilliamsonModels Ah, no. I meant the other end where the track disappears off the layout. I shall look forward to next week's video though. Thanks.
@@ProfPtarmigan oh right! Well the back was done at the same time as the rest of the rear, and the front was done in a video a few weeks back with the tippers
@@ProfPtarmigan oh right! Well the back was done at the same time as the rest of the rear, and the front was done in a video a few weeks back with the tippers
Ah, I had watched the video. I thought the old line was closer to the middle of your Nant Gwernol board than it is, rather than being near the right hand edge. Thanks for putting my mind at rest that I hadn't missed the scenery being done on that side of the layout.
Brilliant, very inspirational. What couplings are you using George? Thank you
Cheers, these have Greenwich couplings
The layout is really coming along nicely, George.👍😁
Will we be seeing a Skarloey to Talyllyn conversion soon?
Cheers! No you won’t. You’ll see talyllyn at some point, but it don’t be a Skarloey conversion (or a Bachmann talyllyn for the same reasons!)
@@GWilliamsonModels 3D resin print on a Bachmann Skarloey chassis?
Just binged your content! Really opened my eyes on kit building rolling stock and engines. I’m modeling Thomas the tank HOn30, I assume these 009 are too big for my engines? I love the talyllyn engines though and may have to make a seperate more realistic layout at some point! Great content
Hi mate, I think the Bachmann Thomas stuff is HOn30 and you’ll notice much a difference next to proper 009, I really wouldn’t worry about it.
Watching 7 slip with the full set, I'm wondering if it's possible to pack some weight or liquid gravity into the bodyshell, as I'm guessing it doesn't weigh very much as just the 3D printed shell and the chassis. Other than that, the layout is coming along really nicely, and it's good to see trains running to bring it all together.
I’m planning to add weight to 7 after this session - goes to show that playing trains has benefits!
@@GWilliamsonModels of course! All in the name of progress!
NIce running session George, how are you planning to hide the cracks between the two scenic section?
@@T0blerone1a once the scenery’s built up, and trees over it, I don’t think it’ll be very visible atall
Looking good. Have you something planned to disguise the exit to the fiddle yard. Maybe some large trees. Cheers Peter from downunder.
Yes the layout is going to be heavily planted with trees, as per the prototype. So you’d do well to see where the train exits the scene when it’s done
Nice to see the loco’s and stock that you’ve built so far running at last. That must give you a burst of momentum. Do I spy a lurch as the trains pass over the baseboard join? Is that normal for 009 and within your standards? Or is it bugging the heck out of you?
Good spot, I’ve been meaning to fiddle with that join, as the one board has risen about 1mm, so I’ll flatten it down again. It’s only a tiny amount, but in 009 it’s a lot
Lot of effort for a fence - but it is the "large details" which make it al look real - so well worth all your efforts I think.
Most people seen to use matchsticks as fence posts, which are about a scale 6" thick at 4mm; leave the posts off vertical, and don't pull the wire taught.
It all runs well - i guess even without stay-alive if you aren't DCC.
Did you fix the drip at 3:37 - we can see these due to the magnification.
Gread vid as ever . . .
Hi, yes I agree, it was a lot of effort, but commercially available fences are completely different styles, so we’re never going to work.
Good spot with the drip, yes it’s gone. I tend to do a quick bit for the video, then move the camera and actually do a tidy job ‘off camera’ so I can see what I’m doing!
Cheers
Hi George, you really are the master scenery maker. It would be wonderful if you made a book with pictures stills from these videos with instructions on how to do many of these techniques. As a quick reference. 🙏🏻 (you could also reference the video.)
That’s a great idea I hope he does it
I have been approached by a publisher regarding a book!
I have actually been approached about writing a book, so keep an eye for that in the future
@@GWilliamsonModels I will look forward to buying it ☺️
7 seems to struggle a bit 😂
It does with a full train, being a 3D print! I’m going to try adding more weight around the loco
hello george have a couple ideas for the awdry dioramas for the future the ideas i have for the awdry eztravaganza 5 and 6 for the fifth one you could make duncan maybe one from passengers and polish for the sixth peter sam or sir handel if sir handel is actully released by then if he is then you could do the one where he derails in a bad day for sir handel for peter sam when his funnel falls off from an icle on the top off the tunnel of course you can choose wich one you do if it happens but these are jsut ideas
Good ideas. Though I think the next Awdry event will be the last one, so I’ve got one last diorama to do
@@GWilliamsonModels thanks i was orignaly having the idea for it to be rusty or duncan but i could not find a picture from the books of him with skarloey without duncan being there and i did not know the the fifth one would be the last can not wait to see wich new face they have fore one of the engines since i wanted to give you 2 ideas so maybe when you finish the tallylynn you could do the ffestiniog railway since you have done both of the welsh railways the corris and the tallylyn of course yet again you do not have to make this
@@christophersullivan3989 thanks, actually, the next project after the talyllyn will be standard gauge!
@@GWilliamsonModels thats nice can"t wait
Hi George, Love your stuff, its inspired me to have a go at building my own 009 layout, to that end, I've been emailing Alec at Westcliff Works to order a couple of bodies, but have not heard back from him, can you put up a link with the email address to make sure I have the right one? Keep up the great work.
Yes I can do, I did speak to Alec last week, and they said that they were slowly getting back on top of emails, so you may hear very soon
Hi sir
