    We need guys like you around to inspire the new generation, i also firmly believe that having something to tinkle with is one of the greatest anti aging formulas there is.

    I had one of these way way back - back when - if my memory serves me correctly - the cost when new was double that of a lowly' 450 SEL. Have a safe and nice day all. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.

    Great project car. If I were going to go for it I would simply fix the suspension, take care of the injectors and keep it on the road. Rolling restoration. Do not take this car apart. Enjoy it every day. Indestructible supercar sedan.

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I totally agree. Keep it rolling. You start taking it apart for full restoration and you might lose inspiration after a year of looking at it.... :-)

    Man. Love that 6.9. But, like you said, swap all the good stuff into a 450sel, add the AMG Penta wheels, and there's a classic sleeper.
    Just bought an 87 560sl and enjoy your videos. Love working on pre bluetooth cars!

    Very beautiful glad you were able to save it from the San Juan’s and will go to someone who loves it I’m down here in Seattle and love to see someone who also love old Mercedes I went to Stuttgart a few years ago and visited the museum there , hahaha the 6.9 rides like my sl 500 which needs abc suspension

    My father had one of these in the 80s and loved it. I mean he loved it and also owned a 70s rolls royce corniche, but the 6.9 was his favorite car.

    I have a euro 79’ black 6.9
    This sells for over $100,000 in Europe if FULLY restored. Approx. $40.000 to 50,000 needed to restore it though. I agree, it’s such a beautiful car and in great shape - aside from the rust and need of engine, trans, and suspension rebuilding. I gotta admit that violet really looks elegant on the W116. Never seen one in this particular color before.

    Looks good, metal can be cut out and new pieces fabricated with sheet metal, it can be done at home with regular tools, it would be good for someone who wants to take their time with it.

    Have you ever travelled to Morocco? It was the land of 70s & 80s mercedes taxis. The grande taxi. That is fading now, but still plenty of old Mercedes around. The locals can rebuild them from just about anything.

    I was in the Australian Navy and I was based at Great Lakes Naval Training Centre in the 80s. Whilst I was there one of the German sailors doing a course at Great Lakes bought a 450 SEL 6.9 with him, metallic green with beige velour interior, what a magnificent car, I wonder if it still exists?

    Underseal, I totally agree. I just do not understand why so many shops do that to the cars. I think they want it to look good. I prefer to use grease on rusty parts under the car. (copper anti seize paste works well)

    The body and paint are so nice, im surprised by rust underneath.
    I have an undercoated 88 300se that has some rusted spots but not that bad.
    I converted the headlamps to the bosch glass euro leveling ones.

    Is there a way to cut suspension from a w116 300sd and weld it in. I have a crash car no rust it could donate its floor and replace the rotted parts with
    I love the color of that car.

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Anything is possible but that would be way too much work. You would be better off finding a clean 450SEL and putting the 6.9 engine, trans and rear end into that car.

    • @DanielEhlmann
      @DanielEhlmann 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If I wasn’t loaded down with tons to do of my own car project, I would instantly buy this. This car would be great to take all the trim, bumpers, lights, engine, and transmission, and body panels, and transplant it onto a clean W116 frame/chassis. If nothing else, the transplant would have a cool story to it.
