- Ronin is a 1998 American action thriller film directed by John Frankenheimer and written by John David Zeik and David Mamet. Deirdre (Natascha McElhone) puts together a team of experts that she tasks with stealing a valuable briefcase, the contents of which are a mystery. The international team includes Sam (Robert De Niro), an ex-intelligence officer, along with Vincent (Jean Reno), Gregor (Stellan Skarsgard) and others. As their operation gets underway, several team members are found to be untrustworthy, and everyone must complete the mission with a watchful eye on everyone else.

How that 6.9 goes from reverse to forward spinning the wheels the whole time in one seamless movement, great piece of driving. Great movie
Actually, you can see there they faked it. The Mercedes is a rare model and the footage is sped up and the smoke is clearly drawn in if you look closely.

@@alphakky I did not forget - love the A8 and everything about this movie (John Frankenheimer's last film) he hired F1 drivers to do most of the intense chase scenes - the A8 in full chat doing a four wheel drift through the roundabout is freaking epic

I'm a big fan of Citroen, but no way that it could hang with a MB 6.9.....That reverse burnout says it all......also the scene on the mountain road the driver is awsome....has that beast all over the road.....great driving skill.
I always considered this movie to be the spiritual successor to Michael Mann's Heat. Easily one of the best action films ever and the Burnout games and Alpha Protocol.
That reverse burn out with the J turn is one of the best I have ever seen

3:41 This was actually an error because the Peugeot that was following the Citroen had already been knocked out of the chase by the Audi at that point. Someone screwed up when they put the footage together. It would have been the Citroen immediately followed by the Audi not the Peugeot.

Great film, but in this clip, the fruit and veg sellers remain standing there during the shootout. Pretty sure they'd have taken cover. Another great film from Mr Reno.
The ONLY thing wrong with this film is the fake smoke when doing the J turn.

Great chase.. one glaring mistake was Reno would have been backed in to that spot in a real scenario.

The camera car was a modified 1991 Mercedes 500E
It was cut from the final version of the film, but the 6.9 had to stop for fuel in the middle of the chase

I don't remember that car ever having animated smoke in the original movie. Am I wrong?
Saw this in the theater and it was always animated poorly.
The only real smoke is when he first puts it in reverse and floors it.

The chase is not impressive. Mostly special effects except of the backwards turn ..
The chases were actually filmed on location, in those cars at high speeds. Yes, the explosions probably were effects.
What a pointless, awful film this was. De Niro's decline started back in mid 90's.
