Hi Jo In our experience we find Epdm is extremely tear resistant, we have never heard of animals causing an issue with a rubber roof. I was curious about whether a lit cigarette butt would cause an issue so I tested it on an off cut we have lying around and there was no penetration whatsoever 👍. If you contact the guys over at www.rubber4roofs.co.uk/ I'm sure they'll happily send you some samples out so you can have a feel of their materials. We also have a discount code (ROOFSCOUT5) for their site if you did decide to make a purchase there. I hope this helps 😁.
Hi Nancy Yes, you can as long as the boards are porous the water based adhesive will be fine. If the boards are not porous then Contact adhesive should be used as the deck adhesive .
Hi, I've recently had my 60m2 flat roof replaced with a rubber roof with one join. The thing is, it doesn't feel like it's stuck down properly. The waters pooling because there isn't enough pitch & the side with the gutters aren't stuck down properly so the water can't run into the gutters. There's also no vapour barrier which makes me think could be a reason why it didn't stick down properly. I was charged 13k just for the roof replaced not including scaffolding
Did you get other quotes? That's incredibly expensive. The good news is it shouldn't matter if it's pooling water won't affect this material. If it looks like it's not been stuck down properly I'd send them pictures and ask for some money back and threaten to take them to court if they refuse as you've not got what you paid for.
No, the first thing to do is treble check that there are no protruding nail heads, splinters or debris after you’ve first rounded off each sharp corner and edge
30+ years on a rubber roof, more maintenance over time is needed for detail areas but overall not a bad roofing system. Pitch is the main factor also, any roof under a 3 pitch needs to be rubber, if you’re not the builder of a home and just a roofer, rubber will be re-installed unless a framer comes in to do some major work.
What a useless piece of film! Who thought a drone flying 5m away would be the best way to show what was happening - get in close, SLOW it down, talk it through. Guy talks like he’s got another job on in 5 minutes so no time for all this!
This video is incredibly useful. While it doesn’t answer every single question for me, no one video does, and you should therefore watch others. But it shows what glues are needed for what section of the roof, how to install the edges and it seems like a relatively easy job to do. Did you not learn ANYTHING from this video? If you did, you got something out of it. Supplement what you learned here with other videos. Good luck!
I’m not sure where this roof is being installed but I hope they screwed the sheeting down or used ring shank nails because over time regular nails will work their way out of the sheeting and poke through the rubber. That is why you are supposed to put down insulation board and secure that with plates and screws. There is also supposed to be cover tape over the drip edge to help with expansion and contraction of the rubber. I definitely wouldn’t do it this way
Just covered a garage and workshop and went very well. Definitely a two handed job to get a good finish.
Is there any underlayment needed
do you need the trims or is there another way ?
Doing my first one this weekend done plenty with someone else as labourer see how it goes now private job
How did it go same here never did complete install alone
Edging trim, does the water on the roof just flow off roof between the edpm and the trim?
That's what I want to know, you don't want a perminant pool of water on your roof.
@@patbrennan6572 from a site i was on, as you have a slope, there is a trim for the back (low side) to let water flow off the roof.
im thinking about doing a rubber roof for a workshop...is it easily damaged? like if someone threw a cigarette butt on it or a cat scratches it

Can this material be installed on a tongue and groove shed roof ?

A good roofer will tell you not to use rubber on the roof !!! It fails faster then any other material.

I found it pretty helpful.
