The producers have commented about the network (SyFy) wanting them to limit the number of F-bombs in the show, but didn't say a peep about having a child disassemble his nurse.
it's nice to listen to people reacting to this show who actually recognize holden's value; he comes in for more than his fair share of hate, and i don't get that. maybe it's because i read the books first, and already knew his character, but, as much as i love the amos/avasarala/drummer/ashford* collection of players that get showier spotlights and spikier character arcs, steven strait has invested exactly the amount of naiveté and gravitas necessary to bring holden to life, evolving slowly over the course of all the seasons from the disenfranchised not-XO of the canterbury to the able captain of a ship at the apex of connected storylines. plus, dayamn, son, he fine.
I feel the same. James isn't my favorite but I definitely see that he brings something essential to the tone and balance of the team and to the show. Also, I'd like to add Alex to the list of greats (actor aside).
@@fakecubed i've seen holden dissed on several channels. he "gets on my nerves" or "he's so wishy washy.'" and "what does he do? he just moons around and drinks coffee." the latter is from people who don't realize that, as captain of the roci, he plans all maneuvers, all insertions into and extradition from engagements, and a whole host of other captainy things. glad you've had better reading!
A little trivia on the Martian ship: Chennamma was a queen of the kingdom of Kittur in south India in the 19th century. She's commonly called Kittur Chennamma. She fought off the British invading her kingdom before she was captured and imprisoned.
Despite being of Indian descent, this show was how my family and I first learned of Kittur Chennamma. We've always heard of Rani Lakshmibai but never Chennamma, even though they both fought against the doctrine of lapse imposed by the British.
29:30 In a Comic-Con panel, the actors said that they try to be the first one to cross their arms as they then don't have to pretend as much about the lack of gravity
The Nauvoo was unfinished when it was launched at Eros. It had no maneuvering thrusters, so they used the automated tugs to steer it into the right trajectory before firing up the main drive. Likewise they did the same thing when bringing it back.
Jules-Pierre knew Julie opposed his activities, generally, but didn't know her specific plan to intercept the transport ship with the protomolecule aboard. He only found out about that after the Anubis took the crew of the Scopuli, and the commander notified him of it. Right after that, the Anubis went dark, because the protomolecule ate the crew. I somehow think we're gonna hear the "Mormon Justice" comment again, in the future.... :)
Plus he feared she was not safe in the belt and hired Ceres security force to literally kidnap her and ship her back home against her. So no he did not willfully sacrifice her or chose the protomolecule over his daughter in anyway shape or form, he just took "comfort" in his plan telling himself that what he was trying to accomplish for humanity was greater in importance than any one person even his own daughter. And in his mind what he's trying to do is for good of all mankind. "Bad men do unspeakable things believing it's for the good of all mankind" - Anderson Dawes
@@BrunoBarata78 In the book the Canterbury and Donnager incidents spur a war between the Belt and Mars (instead of Earth vs Mars) so it made more sense for Jules to get Julie out of the belt since she was allied with the OPA so in any conflict she would go first line against the MCRN.. meaning most likelly death
@@sparrowlt I have read the first book and I'm half way through the second so I understand the events in the book. I guess I'm the only person who doesn't hate Naomi. I do not agree with what she did, but I OVERstand it. All of her crew mates are from their own planets. Planets that repeatedly oppress, experiment on, and straight up MURDER belters on the regular. It appears that both Earth and Mars has the protomolecule (even though we find out later earth doesn't) they certainly both have access to it. So NOT having it puts the belt even further under the boot of Earth and Mars. She also has repeatedly said that perhaps they could find a cure for those infected. I was actually kinda pissed at how little her crew members attempted to c her side, with the exception of Alex. I understand them being angry at the betrayal, but they just turned their back on her and their relationship never is the same. Meanwhile they are in this whole situation because Holden ignored the majority, went behind everyone's back, and did what he wanted. And sure he got flak but not much and the person who helped ease tensions was none other than Naomi.
Naomi wants Jim to be the "good man" that he was when this started. And if Earth and Mars destroy each other, with Ganymede collapsing, the Belt is lost.
You cut out my favorite line of the episode. It was when the guy was telling his fellow shipmate that their hijacking didn't work. It was when he said, "that's a Recon uniform. She can force feed you that gun any time she wants." He clearly understood the situation, whereas his shipmate clearly didn't have a clue what would have happened had she not given up the gun.
It's worth reading the books too, there's enough deviation from the TV show that it's worth it and you get even deeper world building. I binged through the first 6 after seeing the first season and haven't looked back. I'm both happy and sad the main book series is concluding this year.
"Holy. Shit. Holy shit. Holy shit! HOLY SHIT!" So, I'm sensing a strong reaction. Can't quite ... put my finger on it. Let me try to piece it together.
Killjoys is fun (maybe firefly light) but then after like season one you see this interesting world building they did. I will still say I was slightly disappointed in the end of killjoys. They had a two season order to finish up and I figured they’d nail the ending more. It was still a good end but felt rushed with knowing ahead of time.
Funny how no one ever thinks of a head shot in films. You can have all the armor you want but if your head is exposed, bye bye. I guess she wasn't too willing to go that far.
Something I'm confused by is the kid disassembling his nurse because the protomolecule wants to know how humans work. The protomolecule had hundreds of humans to disassemble on Eros, so shouldn't it already know?
It's not that the kid is disassembling the nurse the to understand humans, it's the protomolecule inside the kid is trying to do the same thing as the rest of the protomolecule is doing on venus by disassembling ship to understanding it and making it into what it wants.
It really sucks, that they made Naomi, the only woman on the crew, the betrayer and the one who gives away the protomolecule, when in the book it's James Holden, and they give it to Fred Johnson in order for Fred to divert missiles away from Eros
