Ok, an old laptop brick is a REALLY GOOD IDEA for the electronic rust removal! And man, every time I see one of these rusty cast-iron restorations, it really makes me want to go out and scour every flea market and antique shop and recycling dump for discarded pans! People really don't know what they're throwing away!
@AJRestoration I originally thought it was a Benjamin Medwin cast iron, but it doesn't have the same makers mark on the handle. It does look like a Korean made skillet though. That steak you made looks delicious. Iook forward to your next video.
I looked on your profile 'about'. It said United States, but I hear very familiar birds like the dove and mynars in the background. Then I see Adendorf🤔 Are you South African? Oh, by the way. Love your content👌👊
I have a griddle and a cast iron pan that i want to do this with. Not in AS bad a condition, but pretty rusty. How long does it stay in the solution? Also, do you think this will work on porcelain coated cast iron grill grates? I have a propane grill that i garbage picked, and all i have left to restore are the grates that have a bit of rust where porcelain flaked away.
Rust is just oxidized iron. Boil it for 20 minutes and it will turn to black oxide. I would run a cup wire wheel on that, boil it, and oil it and then heat it up until it smokes.
Yes you can, that sounds like the specs of the typical car battery charger. It will work great, just keep an eye out on the heat of the transformer. Also some car battery chargers have small fuses, if the salt content is too high it might blow the fuse.

I agree, I am constantly on the search for more cast iron to save.
Love seeing the the good old stuff saved from destruction. Very Nice Job!!
I restored a pan from the early 1920s .Excellent job.
I wish I knew a little more about the history of this one.
Ahhh, finally a back to tour roots cast iron restoration. Nice job.
Yes! Thank you!

Wow! What an amazing transformation, great job AJ! The steak sure did look delicious!
Thanks so much! It was quite tasty indeed!
Love listening to the doves and tbe black collared barbet at the end. Great job on the resto too.
Table salt? This will be interesting. The normal stuff is "washing" soda, but I've also had success with baking soda.
Looks amazing
Amazing job!! Well done
Thanks a lot!
Cool using your restored grill to cook the steak. 👍
Glad you like it
Very nice work. Another amazing restoration 👏👏
Thank you very much!
Wow, it's almost like new!
Nicely done! Could I recommend Safflower Oil to season instead of Olive Oil spray? Much higher smoke point!
Yeah olive oil is for eating not cooking
I was like NOT WITH A STEEL BRUSH! It'll create scratches, and it'll rust! Oh wait...
Good job, mate. 👍👍👏👏😀
Thank you Cathy!👍👍
Very nice work, the steak looked yummy too!
Indeed it was yummy!
Hello AJ good job well done
Thank you buddy!

Thanks! Will do buddy!
Good job on the restoration. It inspires me as I have a pan to restore. But, really sirloin steak for your "first" one? Rib steak, T-bone, rare pleas!
I LIKE THE GOO 🤩

Once pitted food sticks mainly eggs. This was steak pan only and was not used hardly at all.
ek weet nie wat lyk beter nie... die steak of die pan well done met die pan is 'n lekker scrapyard find daai
Haha as jy dit kon ruik sou jy defenetief se die steak... Dankie, ek is baie happy met hoe die een uit gekom het.
I was thinking you were going to take it even further with sandblasting and using the wire wheel before seasoning the pan lol
I was actually surprised with the electrolysis result this time. It wasn't really needed haha

Hi AJ, Can I use a 12 volt 4 amp charger for the rust removal process, man that steak looks awesome

I restored a pan like that. One morning I found it full of water in the sink rusting again😅
Haha if its is properly seasoned it should not rust that quick.
What do you do
With the salt solution when you're done?
It's still mooing, mate. Lol. 😅 I like mine well done. 😅
Haha If I slap the meat when its done cooking and it makes a slight moooo sound, its ready to eat.
Far from mooing, it can come out with a glass of milk and I'd still want it more rare 😂
Wow
I'm a Lil impatient so I throw mine into the 🔥 then wire wheel it then big torch takes me about an hour total that's 3 coats of oil
The fire method never really worked for me. I tried it a few times now.
That slop that comes off during the electrolysis...!! 🤢 🤮 Good job!
So, you season it with olive oil, and cook with butter?!?! 😮😢
Yes, steak tastes better when cooked with butter.
Now I want to braai
Next post, please??? 😊
Снова африканец👍🏻
Hi Aj like jou werk wat jy doen kan jy my se waar ek parte kan kry vir my Robin ec17 se carb.
ek sal dit waardeer
Sam
Meat tastes good.
Did you really need to mark the negative once the positive was marked lol
Haha do you paint only the one half of the wall?
OMFG JUSTTAKE TO THE CREEK AND CLEAN IT WITH GRAVEL ROCKS AND COOK
Haha no.
I have washed cast iron like this!
A neutral oil for the seasoning would’ve been much better, and you didn’t wipe enough off before putting in the oven.
It was fine haha
This video is a colossal waste of time. Either sandblast it or hit it with a wire wheel. Then season it.
Worthless video. Thanks for not sharing the spray stuff and the chemical you poured into the water after the electrolysis process.
Its salt water with a bit of rust. Nothing special.
