I think comparing the Apple Watch Ultra to the Google Pixel watch is totally unfair in terms of battery life and the regular Apple Watch would have been more adequate, excellent comparison nonetheless.
Yeah but if you think of them as the best that Apple/Google has to offer, then it's more understandable. You just cannot get the same level of experience on Google no matter how much you are willing to pay.

If I recall right, you can pretty much buy two Google Pixel Watch for the price of an Apple Watch Ultra, however the Ultra is not twice the feature set, twice as precise or twice as good overall, which even further proves my previous comment

I do feel like it’s a bit early for this kind of comparison though, like it’d be cool to have a comparison a few years down the line. Like let google have a chance to establish what they want their watch to be.
If anything, though this is a good comparison of how the Apple Watch operating system is much much further ahead than the pixel operating system

Until then maybe a day in a life (but with as much tech as possible). Like nest hub waking you up in the morning, turning the lights on, playing the news, telling the weather, phone telling you when to leave for work or a meeting and sending transit directions to your phone. At a glance telling you about next meeting, in the meantime flat is getting vacuumed by robot, assistant showing you best next restaurant to have lunch based on food match (only google), assistant booking a haircut or something like that and so on... Just brainstormed there is much more and different things with shortcuts on iOS / routines with google.

Great video and cool to see that you show different stuff than other reviewers too, actually taking the watches out for the average day. I think the sleeping times might be a bug in Google/Fitbit's sleep tracking. My Pixel Watch usually shows me waking up for like 1 minute multiple times through the night, which adds up to half an hour easily. Weird bug I guess, hope they fix it. As for battery life I have been pretty happy with it so far, usually ending the day on a 40% charge after having tracked my sleep and short workouts with it too, but not an intense user and using BT only. Definitely think it could be better though, price is also pretty high.

But, I am sure at the same price and spec range (especially battery and display), GPW may even out with AW-S8 and AW-SE.
I also saw a lot of YT Videos on the comparisons of AW-Ultra with prominent sport watches, from the likes of Garmin and others. It looks like AW-Ultra is trending towards the Sport Watch category but not there yet.
So I guess, for this year, Ultra is more of an over-spec'd and status symbol watch.

Love your videos! For me the Pixel would fit my wrist better since it's smaller and would do everything I wanted, but I can't justify spending that much for a watch that may be outdated in 3 years or so. Maybe seeing your Garmin watch comparison will steer me in that direction.
That's exactly why I moved away from Google. They never stick to anything 🤦♂️
So essentially the pixel watch is useless as a standalone device and at the price point google are selling it at, this watch will be a massive failure.

I have the Google Pixel watch and the mapping works with the phone off. I can also show the route and use the dial to zoom in and out so i see the actual map and route. It's my first smart watch and so far it's been great! Mine is the lte version.
This is because they updated the Google Map app on the LTE Pixel Watch (doesn't work with the Bluetooth version) recently but it wasn't available when he made the video.
Learned something new from your comment, I didn't know that we could use the dial to zoom in and out. Will try this the next time I'm using Google Maps on my watch.

Try a Suunto 7 with the Ultra - it's a WearOS smartwatch, but with serious exercise metrics and modes. Love mine.
I was looking at the Suunto 7 but sadly it looks like that watch won't be getting updates to new Android versions anymore due to the outdated chipset

You should have compared Apple watch 8 with pixel watch for battery test. It's like comparing Garmin with Apple watch ultra.

I loved this video like the other two Only smartwatch all day long.
On the other hand, it is nevertheless important to underline in the introduction that the ranges are very different there between the two watches. One is approaching 1 K€ dollars, the other costs 400 bucks and was even free to all those who pre-ordered. Ditto for the pods/buds.

How come the calories count after the walk (Strava) for the pixel watch is double the count of the apple watch?
all trackers show totally different calorie counts! I just don't trust them!

Loving the pixel watch so far. The way I use the watch (not tracking workouts or using GOS) I get over a day of battery. The only negative for me is the small size & screen. I need at least a 44mm/45mm size next year when they release the gen 2 version of the Pixel Watch.
I'm def wating for gen 2 for the bigger size (hopefully) and for it to be waterPROOF (hopefully). A bigger battery would make sense since it has a feature to wear while you sleep ...
Apple Wallet does not work for me without tapping in Watch Ultra other than transit. I still have to double tap to pay at Starbucks by Watch Ultra. Not sure if I am missing anything.

I’ve had every model of the Apple Watch as well as the iPhone(s). In fact, I’ve been using Apple products since 1983. However, after playing with the pixel watch at Best Buy over the holidays, I liked it better than my Apple Watch. The design is really appealing! With the cost of the Apple Watch versus the pixel, it turns out to be a much better value, and allows me to upgrade $$ annually! The real kicker for me is that Apple continues to slide lower and lower in terms of software reliability. Conversely, Google software has become much more reliable, and the features are more in line with the way I actually interact with the hardware products. ✌️

Personally, Apple Watch design is better. But the price is unreasonable for the little bit more options compared to Pixel Watch. Apple Watch Ultra nearly one grand and I got my pixel watch in a sealed box for £140 from one guy who got it as a gift with his Pixel 7 pro 😅
I liked the video. It's an interesting comparison between an $800 Apple wearable and a $400 Google wearable. I didn't expect the Pixel Watch to offer the same experience, but it's surprising Google Maps doesn't have a more feature-rich presence here. Looks like Apple has a pretty polished experience by now, heading into the 10th iteration of WatchOS I'd hope so! I admire both companies and I love seeing them both playing in this space. Still undecided if I'll jump on the smartwatch boat. $800 is steep for a watch that barely lasts more than a day, and having a $400 watch that doesn't last the full day is worrisome as well. Maybe they should be focused on better battery life for a watch, rather than having it double as a smartphone?
I'm more curious to see how the regular or SE would hold up against the Pixel Watch. The ultra is, y'know, ultra. It's not really an apples to apples comparison
Isn’t the only real unfair difference between the google and Apple Watch battery life? I think the video is more a comparison of real world use , like paying for things, navigating, streaming music, etc. those things aren’t really unique to the ultra. I think the only unfair thing is, again, the battery life.

@@Earthquake.X Yeah, but this video tests real world usage - The only advantage the Ultra has is in this video is battery life. Anything else is just due to it being a better watch.
The SE can do everything the same as the ultra minus the battery life, so I don’t really get how it’s an unfair comparison in this video just because it’s an ultra as that really doesn’t change anything.
Btw not saying Apple Watch is better bc im a fanboy, I’m saying it because the SE would literally be a better watch and this video proves it. What does make it an unfair comparison is that this is apple’s 8th watch, and google’s first - of course their first watch will have flaws because they are finding their feet. I think Pixel has a better camera than iPhone because it’s always been their focus, whereas Apple is still only just REALLY in the past few years.
@@liamnac779 Well, that and maybe a couple other extra sensors, such as being able to really detect depth in water. But battery life is the main thing that matters, and when comparing a 41mm watch to a 49mm watch is just insane. The battery size difference that can be fit into a watch that big is what will offer the best experience. Yes, there are some things that should be possible on the watch, such as maps without a phone, but almost all issues that it can't do, but the Ultra can, are mostly software things that can be fixed through an update. That's really my point when I say that it's not an apples to apples comparison. The battery size difference is really huge, and it'd be really interesting to see how it compares to the non Ultra watch. Battery life is really the main thing that people look for in smart watches. Being able to do certain things without your phone would be nice for sure, but very likely isn't something that most people would look for, as there really aren't many people that will go completely without their phone.
Another interesting thing to see would be the comparison between speakers on the Pixel Watch vs a non Ultra apple watch. The Ultra has a bigger speaker because it has that space to have a much bigger speaker, allowing for louder audio.

The health sensors are very, very similar with the only diff being yeah the temp sensor, ECG capability. Neither of which were compared in this video. It honestly was a fair comparison as again, they mostly do the same thing barring the battery.

Spotify works on the Pixel watch. You need to pair it first. Google maps on the watch let's you view the map, if you tap "open".

Whenever a charge has been denied on the New York City OMNY, with cellphone devices at least, it tends to charge you anyway but just doesn't grant you access. So, I wouldn't make it a habit to use your cell phone or watch to get into the subways yet, at least until they fix that bug.

Pixel is a great first gen watch. Give Google a couple years and it will likely be on par with Samsung. Though this comparison was a bit unbalanced, as I feel a Apple S8 would have been a better choice to go up against the Pixel (42MM at that). Still, I'm sure the S8 would win because Apple has refined their design, software and hardware to a near perfect state in terms of a polished product.
For the price I prefer Pixel watch!

The sleep date is to be trusted, as it is scientifically tested and very close to professional equitment. Google and apple is very close in this competition, thanks to fitbit. Thats because google bought fitbit, and now using the same sleep data as fitbit. That sleep app to fitbit is just so much user friendly, and was leading this competition not long ago. Then apple up their game the with their last watches. Strange to see fitbit app on google. It basically the same as the one on fitbit. At this moment I test out apple for the first time. But must say I miss the fitbit clear app view about your health data.
If google did not buy fitbit, google would been far away when it comes to sleep analysis. So I guess I know why google bought fitbit. It was a very clever move
