What is holding back the AW is battery tech and carrier limitations or bugs which may or may not be on purpose from Apple to keep people from ditching their phones, however I would not say it's not ideal. Battery consumption is a problem even across bigger devices that (for now) is generally overcome by being more mindful of daily usage. With proper implementation a watch could easily replace a phone, outside of taking photos. It would definitely keep me from mindlessly scrolling on socials and you don't even need to worry about carrying/losing it. This device can adapt to you, rather than you having to be extremely aware of how your phone fits in every equation.

Great review! I've been doing phoneless days with my Series 5 cellular for a few years, and the battery life was the main concern as I would get about 75% of a day's usage with it. The Ultra is everything I could ask for and more, so far the battery has been excellent as most people don't live as active of a lifestyle as you do in NYC. For the average person who wants to ditch their phone and the distractions that come with it, the Apple Watch Ultra is all you need!

This is a really interesting question because so much of our days gets wasted with doing pointless things on our phone whereas the watch doesn’t give you those distractions and time wasting activities. I am very much intrigued by the idea of leaving the phone in the drawer in the morning, and having an active lifestyle with the watch as my wallet and navigator and fitness pal. Being in NYC definitely had an effect on the battery life. When you use GPS quite a bit in places like New York I’m sure it’s screaming for signal in between the buildings and in the subway and using a lot of power trying to find it. My apple watch ultra lasts me two whole days and I swim for an hour every morning and ride my peloton every evening tracking both, I also wear it to sleep every night. I do live in Atlanta where it’s not as congested and I don’t use the GPS to navigate. I love being able to leave my phone and wallet at home and just have my watch to keep up with. I don’t even have to carry a key to my house anymore I have a deadbolt with a keypad. Technology is incredible. Amazing reviews.

As others have said, review was great. Much better than an unboxing video where you don’t get any practical daily usage info. My experience was with an earlier Apple Watch model from 2018 or 2019. It wasn’t an ultra or anything. I loved it but the battery life started out adequate but seemed to diminish over the course of a year where if it got any moderate to heavy usage it would die or be in the red by 8pm. Still a very nice watch but I hope they can eventually can get these devices into more of a 48-72 hour timeframe so if you miss a charge on a busy day you can still get it charged up. Especially if you are trying to do sleep tracking and not placing it on charger at night.

Sure, it’s not contactless and the loyalty card barcode/QR code just shows on your screen for scanning. You can even add a parkrun barcode if you’re a runner. I have every loyalty card on my watch and never use physical or my iPhone when I want to use them. Add to to wallet, double click the Apple Pay activation and then scroll through all the cards to pick the one you want to scan (first activation will default to your chosen Apple Pay payment card).

That's awesome you were using Google Maps natively on an Apple Watch! Was that hard to get set up? I've used iPhone before and it always seemed that even if I had Google Maps set up as default, if I opened directions via a link, it would want to open in Apple Maps. Forced issues like that made me go back to Android. These experiences took place on iPhone 12 Pro and 13 Pro.

Awesome battery life. Actually it is very similar to my Galaxy Watch 4 LTE in which I leave home at 9am with 100% battery life, and around 16pm I am near to 20% battery life. The only thing that distinguishs my watch to yours is the fact that I do not use mine. I mean, no maps, and... no training apps, and... no calls, and... no messages, and... really nothing. If you want one of these you just have to keep it on iddle the whole day.
Think with me... it is the same experience as Apple gives you, you do have a smartwatch LTE in your wrist, a big watch if you want, lots of style, you can see the time (thats not bad) and it has an iluminated screen too...
And the best part is... if you do want to reach the lunch time (12pm) without battery, you could make 1 or 2 calls during the morning with LTE, but if you exceed like 5 minutes in call, the watch will turn off for cooling and will enter in flight mode.
Its really awesome, please dont consider getting one! 😁

This is heeeaavvyyyy use lol he literally used the darn thing for everything. In a big city with this kind of heavy usage, this is plenty of time to get through a day and then quickly recharge in 1.5 hr when necessary. I don’t understand the big deal with folks and battery life. I’d use it alllll day and then at night or at lunch I’d plug in for an hour or so and bam we are back to 100%. Idk when and why someone would need this thing without a charge longer than like 16/17 hours unless of course you’re on some big 2 day hike in the middle of nowhere. And if you’re in that scenario you’re damn sure not constantly making calls, making purchases, text messaging, using google maps etc… 😂all those things will drain the battery.

@@andydrew3320 exactly this. People seem to be disapointed with batterty life of the Ultra in this review but they forget that even 30min on a charger would give you enough juice to easy make it through out the day. Also how many times you have to charge your 1-2 year old iphone. I bet it is also once a day.
What is disapointing and this video confirms it is siri being slow on the watch. I can relate to this. I hope siri can at least here me better on Ultra (not having it yet) with these 3 mics on board.
