The song came to Bob Gaudio, the tall guy in the pic, and one half of the Four Seasons hit-writing team of Bob Crewe and Gaudio. Bob G. was driving down a street in NYC and there was a poor little girl in raggedy clothes standing by the curb. Very moved, Bob gave her $5, (that's 1964 $5). He wrote the song based on this and turned it into a love song. Oh yes. Hand claps too! In the realm of "Beggin", please check out the Four Seasons "An Angel Cried". Great reaction. Thanks.
Bob Gaudio wrote this. He was driving his car to the studio in New York City when he was stopped at a "three-minute light." A little girl - with ragged clothes and dirty face - ran up to the car and cleaned the windshield. As the light changed, Gaudio rummaged frantically through his pockets in an effort to find a quarter to pay the girl, who did indeed look like a Rag Doll. The smallest piece of money he could find was a five-dollar bill (sometimes Gaudio would say "ten-dollar bill" when he tells this story), so he gave her the currency. She was speechless, but he remembered her stunned look at the studio, where he composed the song. When Gaudio and their producer, Bob Crewe, finished writing this, they wanted it to be the next Four Seasons single instead of one that was already scheduled for release, but the group was set to begin a tour the next day. Because their regular studio was closed on Sundays, they recorded this in the basement of a Manhattan demo studio, using a production crew with whom they had never worked before.
I have seen Frankie Valli three times in person and he is 84 years old now last time I saw him he was 78 and then 80 and still has an awesome voice!!!😘😘😘👍👍👍
The Four Seasons had another hit with a similar theme called “Dawn.” Only in that song the tables were turned and the guy wasn’t good enough for the girl.
Rag Doll one of the big hits in the summer of 1964!!!! This was The Four Seasons fourth number one ☝️ record in less than two years. The only band to have a number one hit song before, during, and after The Beatles. Yes, the only Band.
The 4 Seasons were my favorite group growing up, and Rag Doll was one of their best. Hard to believe that I just saw an ad for Frankie Valli appearing locally in the near future. WOW.
Be prepared to enter a rabbit hole when checking out the Four Seasons. Other great ones are Let's Hang On, Working My Way Back to You, Sherry, Maryanne.
Ace, you made me laugh out loud when you said, "Calling someone 'rag doll'...yeah.....no, haha".I hear ya, but I guess back then it wasn't as bad? At least he's just describing her clothing. I love this song too. And yeah, Frankie is hitting the high notes.
Thank goodness some of us were raised better than to try to tear others down. I would have never made fun of the way someone dressed etc. There's always good songs like this and Love Grows Where my Rosemary Goes to show that the girls definitely caught the attention of someone that saw them as special 🥰
I'm originaly from New Jersey when their name was just The Four Seasons...Then it became Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, then later on just Frankie Valli. My former sister-in law dated one of the Four Seasons.
❤🎶❤for a real treat watch the Frankie Valli special from 2022 with the Jersey Boys, his 60th anniversary special!! Its amazing and Frankie is still kicking ass!!!🥰🥰
The "B" side was "Silence Is Golden" later a hit by The Tremeloes. Their previous record "Dawn (Go Away) was a huge hit as well.

Two of my favorites by the Four Seasons are “Let’s Hang On” and “Working My Way Back to You.”

The Four Seaons are a great group. Many good songs. Tremendous harmony. Just a great group. ❤❤❤❤
My favorite song when I was little. I still love it.
I use to cry when I would hear this. I felt it was about me.
😢❤sorry
Well you look beautiful now 🥰
"Beggin" is another great 4 Seasons hit
Love Franki Valli & the 4 Seasons. Thanks for reacting to more 4 Seasons 👍😊
Candy Girl is another stellar 4 Seasons track.
Back then i was soooo happy for hand-me-downs. I always refused to pay attention to rude people
I had an older brother so yes .hand-me-downs were a thing. Mom kept them good though.
I was from a big family, and I was happy for hand me downs. As soon as I was grown I got a Job, and kept myself in pretty clothes.

Thank you for reacting to this song. Always have really loved this song. ❤❤❤
The Seasons got there start as studio back up singers.

Let's Hang on is my fave. This one's a pleasure as well
Wow... I thought this song was a lot older than it really is. This came out in 1964.

One of my Mother's Favorite Songs

This always reminds me of Love Child by The Supremes, "I started school in a worn torn dress that somebody threw out"
They could be very brutal and blunt back then. They were not educated and bullying like the youth are today.
Could you please react to FV & 4 Seasons My Eyes Adored You, it's a beautiful love song
I actually reacted to that already. 😁😁
