I never noticed you were 40 pounds heavier.
I guess I saw you for who you were inside and not what the outside looked like.

Agreed. I don't remember that before picture. You just are whatever I see right now. I am so happy that you feel great.
That was an interesting realisation about your relationship with food. I'm going to be thinking on that for a bit to be sure.

Thanks for doing this video, Megan. Especially for sharing that after you had an important realization it took you a couple of years to fully accept it. I get so impatient with myself sometimes, as I move through various important processes - I understand sooooo much earlier than I'm able to fully accept and absorb these important lessons. Thank you for this encouraging video!

You are incredibly brave to put your daily life out there on TH-cam. I have thought of doing a cooking channel, but also aware of the trolls. I lost 40 by doing Keto. It is the first time it was not hard for me to diet. I went on it because I heard it reduces inflammation and increases energy. Last March I was diagnosed with RA after a horribly painful month long flare o where I believed I would be disabled for life, or have to take horrifying medication. After 2 weeks on the Keto eating plan (not promoting it, just what worked) I had literally ZERO pain and went on to now have slowly lost 40 lbs. It is not a diet. It is a ZERO sugar very low carb eating style that has many benefits for me. I too had 4 brothers, all older and we were all athletes. They ate like teen athletes. My mom gave me horrendous messages about food and body image. (her generation not that she was being mean) and I always struggled as you did on food distribution in our family. I am old enough to be your Mom, because my oldest daughter is your age. I have walked some similar paths. I have 7 children. We did Foster care for years and adopted 5 children. I homeschooled them, we had a farm in Elk WA. We lived in Spokane, (no thank you) N. Idaho now, just south of Sandpoint.) Many stressors with our teen and young adult adoptive kids due to their being born drug-affected etc. So my go-to was food. I am a good cook and an even better baker. I cannot tell you how many people are disappointed I am not baking one single thing for the Holidays this year. Just, not a big deal to me, they will get over it. OK, I will stop here. All this to say you and your family are beautiful. I am proud of you for doing the work physically and emotionally it takes to get to this point. I wish you all good blessings in the New Year.

So glad you found what worked for you but beware of the amount of cholesterol in many ‘keto friendly’ foods. As well as the amount of animal products.

This video was SOO timely for me!
I've been sick for a few years and just now getting my levels back on track and now I feel like i can focus on other things, like food, exercise and losing this crazy amount of weight I have gained since being sick.
This was SUCH an encouragement to see and I've cheered you on quietly from NC as I've noticed that you have looked healthier and healthier with each video!
I sent in my info to your coach as I've been teetering on the edge of this new breakthrough of self care!! I think her help could be really beneficial for me!
Thanks again for being open about your personal life and just so you know- the video was NOT long winded! ;) It was perfect in every way for those that you are encouraging!
    Blessings,

I have had so many of the same epiphanies in regards to health and wellness, it's so good to see someone else's journey mirrors my own. I think the epiphanies are more critical than the specifics of the program you use (personally). Nothing can replace respecting your own body and the emotional work that is apart of this change. Thank you for being so willing to share. 💪

You look great, you always have, but the joy that you feel about being healthy is obvious and very beautiful to see. I've been on a lower-carb diet since June as well. The change came after I had a massive flare up of arthritis in my knees. It's been life changing and I too have discovered that sugar is not for me, that like yourself, I have an addiction to it and it wreaks havoc on my body and on my brain. Your example is wonderful, good for you!

I am totally on board with what you are saying. I am on an extended camping trip by myself, hooking and unlocking my travel trailer. I lost 30 lbs in the months before I left on my trip and started walking a lot. It helped me get stronger and I have been hiking mountain trails. I would not have been able to do so much without losing the weight. I have more to lose still. I also found that sugar and carbs affect my heart. I am on medication for blood pressure and had Afib. I have noticed if I eat sugary items, my heart rate is affected, so it is another reason to stay off it. I don't eat white flour, potatoes, bread (except Ezekiel Bread which has protein) or sugar. I feel so much better and have more energy also. I see parents reward their kids with candy and think what a mistake they are making. Good health starts when we are young. Best of luck in your journey.

Congratulation Megan! It is so wonderful how we feel when we listen to our bodies and want to be healthy. Like you I was on a journey to be healthy and no longer have the sore knees. You spelled it out so well, it really is easy once you decide exactly what it is that you want from yourself. It is a lifestyle for my husband and I and we are very happy about it. We are in our 60's and didn't know how it would go but were pleasantly surprised. He no longer rakes blood pressure medicine and I don't have the aches and pains of arthritis. Walking is our exercise, 30 minutes everyday. Sorry I went on about us. I am so happy for you, having had some of the same realizations. So many people could change their lives so easily. Thanks for sharing.

I identified with this SOO much! I started having a lot of food sensitivity issues over the last couple years, so I went paleo because it matched up with what I can eat, and seemed to work well for others with similar issues. Cutting sugar, artificial sugars, caffiene, processed carbs, and feeling so much better. Having a healthy relationship with food is amazing, I don’t crave things all the time, I eat real food and can pronounce all the ingredients. I do need to lose weight, and as a bonus with this lifestyle I have lost 25 lbs since mid September.
I’m glad you found what worked for you, and think it’s amazing when people listen to their body and find what works for their body and their life.

In the middle of a lifestyle overhaul and really enjoyed watching this. More encouragement that there is freedom on the other side. I have always believed freedom was being able to eat whatever I wanted, but turns out I want other things more...like brain health and energy to be with my fam. Thanks for opening up and sharing. Would love some other videos on this topic. I think nutrition is super crucial to talk about in this day of disease and mental illness.

This is the most profound weight loss video I have ever seen. I had so many moments where I could relate and I loved how you explained it’s all about what YOUR body needs and you’re right about that being different for everyone. I lost 130 pounds in early mid 2000 eating much like you are describing. I have since gained 💯 of it back due to surgery and not being able to continue the diet I was on. That said, this video gave me hope that I will figure out this new body of mine and be successful. I have already lost 50 pounds but was kind of in a rut. Your video has inspired me to dig deep and listen to my inner voice. Thank you

Wow! How timely! I have been on KETO for 12 days and guess what...I do NOT crave the carbs!!! I do allow a tiny amount into my diet but no sugar, and most white starchy foods, oh, and root vegs. I am 71 and this has been the best "take care of myself" diet I have tried. Waited til the day after Thanksgiving [duh, I don't know why. I mean, LOL, why deprive myself right?!] Well, a week of no carbs has started to bring on a new feeling, of control over my food. I do not crave. Like you mentioned, it seemed like I was ALWAYS thinking of something to EAT! I went to your coach's link and signed it! Thank you, SO much , for sharing, : > D

I love what you say about storing fat is our body's way of telling us that we don't need it. I sometimes struggle with the concept that I "need" a certain food or I "deserve" a certain food but I need to listen to what my body is telling me and realize that feeding for fuel is different than feeding for emotions.

I love how you put emphasis on diet individuality. What works for one doesn't work for another. For me, Keto works with intermediate fasting, I however, have insulin resistance. (Lost 50 pounds in six months) My body can NOT have more than 35 grams of carbs a day. The MAGIC is getting control over eating. The personal strength that a person feels when eating is under control is a true blessing.

Intermittent fasting likely works for most if not all. Body designed to process food then move on to other house cleaning, cant move on when we keep putting stuff in it. Hence sleep also necessary. Ppl who eat to stay awake are likely the most miserable.

I gave up sugar and carbs (all grains in fact) about a month ago, and it's liberating! I feel so good now. NO more food cravings, no more food addictions. I can make calm, rational decisions about what I eat now. And I'm having fun trying new fruits and vegetables that I never wanted to try before. I've never been happier in my life, and I'll never go back to eating sugar and grains.

I went Keto in July and find it is working for me. I agree that I don't feel the draw to the non-keto foods. I also fast from 6pm to 9am which helps. We each need to find what work for us as individuals.
