I can't express my joy when the spider didn't eat the frog, but had tea with it and waved it goodbye instead.

I like that the spider has a moustache under his pedipalps. And the little wave the spider gives his new frog buddy when he moves him off back home. Strangely wholesome. No where else do you see the spider being such a sweet character.

What I love most about this is how it showcases digital animation. Digital animation often gets unfairly maligned when compared to classical animation. Here we can see the use of blur and distortion effects to beautifully accentuate many of the movements and actions, while colour math helps give the pond water a wonderful murky appearance. It's a composed and assembled so seamlessly to achieve visuals that conventional animation wouldn't be able to accompish.
Also, you got to love the showcase of Australian wildlife. Marsupial representation ✊!

It's really interesting to see how much his style developed over time, and how far it has come. It's really clear how much the detais keep increasing, how much smoother everything is, and how fluid the movements are. The sound design too, it has really mattured over the years and years of experience, and now the sound itself has become another way of telling the stories, and in this case, a big part of this universe. Truly an amazing animation, absolutely worth the time we waited.

I feel like there's some message here about taking advantage of/exploiting/stealing someone's creative spark/works. leaving them behind an empty husk while the exploiter that does not understand the creative struggle/process bastardizes it into what they think will get them renown/recognition. And then everyone else is just cool with it because they're getting their entertainment until it happens to them/one of theirs. While the karma is that those with a creative spark never really lose it, they just re-imagine it through their suffering.

Maybe the spiders had seen so many star voices stolen by the witch that it wanted to help the frog get a new one out of sympathy, so it tried to have it go to the stars at night to eat a new voice, which is why it waited till it was almost nighttime. Watching a colgrave animation reminds me of being a kid when my dad took me to work the first time. All of a sudden I was in this new world. I saw things that I recognized, a stapler or a printer, but in this new context they were foreign, used in ways I didn't recognize. It's not that the office was chaotic, rather it had rules that were completely alien to me. I felt so small and out of place thrust into this strange machine. In a way, it was a lot like watching a lemur use the voice of a frog to make music.

Some spiders keep frogs as pets or to protect their eggs while they are gone which is kinda cute
