  • In 1996 efforts to connect the parks began. In early 1996 the two cities successfully obtained an $850,000 grant from the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) for the Greenway.

In the trail's defense, I like how there's a little sneaky road from the trail into Hamilton Crossing Mall.

Here in San Antonio we have the same problem with our greenways! We have a very beautiful greenway that almost wraps around the whole city, and they’re working to connect it. However, it doesn’t really take you to any points of interest because they’ve said it was made with recreation in mind, not commuting. But recently the city did a survey and lots of people said they’d like it for commuting so we’ll see! They have suggested that they’re connect it to my university so, that’d be cool.

great video. i agree that greenways to nowhere are not that great. but they are the seeds of an idea to connect more and more places. building out a network to get you to where you want to go. My city (region actually) is doing a great job of moving from recreational trails to trails and MUP that connect popular destinations and neighborhoods.

I see this problem in lots of greenways. They serve as detinations, not the routes that connect destinations.
