This was SO good! I love how you included so many maps. Have you ever considered covering any of the TVA's many rerouting of rivers? I can never find maps of how the river paths were before the dams, except for literally *one* really old, incomplete map. I'm fascinated with all the drowned towns and well, anything forgotten underneath other things (which is why I found this).

you said a whole lot of stuff but at the end of the day it's real simple why they live there. People move where they can afford to live. Public transit reliance is another factor. That sums up the majority of why they live there.

This is another example of how Black People are always segregated into one area of town that receives no real local, state, or federal dollars to make it a safe and prosperous place to live. Then they tack on words like crime zone, food desert, bad side of town, etc. And there’s no real explanation except it truly just boils down to racism, plain and simple. It’s like that in every state of the union. Will someone please explain why Black People are always treated unfairly? Even when those who can afford to live in nice areas, they are made to feel like they are unwelcome. For the vast majority of Black and Brown people they are always looked at as something less then. WHY?

I lived in the Knoxville area around 2007 (not in the city, but in an adjoining county) and worked about six blocks north of Magnolia Avenue in East Knoxville. I am white, all my co-workers were white. I was always told by them that the area was dangerous. I was shown an area where a famous double murder of two white people was committed. I was told that prostitutes would try to get in my work truck at a certain location in the area. Despite this, I never felt in danger in the area and have been back there multiple times with no sense of danger. It is shameful that ignorant and racist governments and urban planners were given so much power to make changes that disproportionately affected the black community. IMO, this was the intention of these planning programs, to label predominately black areas as "slums" and attempt to restrict black people into "designated" areas where attempts would be made to control them (i.e. overpolicing). When viewed in comparison to the rest of Knoxville, East Knoxville feels very left behind. Good video! Thanks!

@@vitamaltz I think really the only way this can happen is a european type model where pretty much everyone lives in multi family housing and share a common nature areas. Idk if that mentality exists in the US, people like their single family homes where they can do whatever they want to it without really having to worry about sharing a wall. I wanted to see what your thoughts are on trains vs buses. I am from a large city Denver where it has light rail trains around the city. I wasn't really impressed. They were very expensive to use, so much that I could drive my car and pay for parking downtown and drive back and it would be the same price but I would save myself a bit of time with the car. I have always thought that trains really only work in the densest of cities where buses would be too crowded. I think dedicated bus lanes would be better, where buses can ignore stops that are empty where nobody wants to stop and save some time. They are also able to change over time and add new lines and bus stops where trains are stuck on the same route.

Across the entire planet, all societies shared similar architecture/ Amazingly detailed, gorgeous and detailed architecture. Research "Tartaria." You will find out that a "fire" conveniently happened in every city...a fire that was a perfect excuse to tear down and build new buildings. Every city...even though buildings were built of 18 inch thick stone. All second empire architecture was torn down and replaced with TVA type architecture

  • @HOLLYHOUSE11

They have done this on purpose. The same thing happened in all the major cities. Look into "second empire architecture." It will freak you out if you do a true deep dive. It was a whole great reset way back then. There is a reason the newspapers didnt talk about it and intentionally led people away from it, and there is a reason that you cant find it when they did.

In most cities it really makes it difficult to walk or take public transpirtation for cities' live of the auto. Knoxville is a small and very walkable town. But they feel they need this parking. Great observation.
