dont get me wrong, danny way is a true badass of the skateboarding world. he has contributed sooo much to the sport and is extremely talented.
HOWEVER i find it strange that this was considered such an achievement when others (such as Mischo Erban, Douglas Silva, Kevin Reimer) reach even higher speeds without the assistance of any kind of motor at all. just gravity. THAT is something I think needs to be recognized as a feat of bravery, balance, and skill.
i went once on 30mph and bailed really hard, cant even imagine on 70...Danny's a true warrior

Dyrdek got no love in this video. Whether it you are propelled by gravity or a t-rex... those kinds of speeds on a skateboard are super scary, and I have mad respect for anyone that has those kind of balls.

A few years ago I had my dog pull me down a hill while riding my skateboard. She was a husky and loved to pull. I was probably going about 15mph, but it felt like 100. I got the speed wobbles and bailed hard. Watching this blew my mind.

i agree with the Mischo Erban part, but the problem with that kid who skitched on the truck is that the truck was close in front of him, reducing the wind drag on his body. Had he held onto the side of the truck, he would've biffed it and quite literally died. He had no helmet, nothing. Mischo Erban, however, knows how to ride, and he's very, very good at it.
Would be fun to go beat it, maybe next weekend? Towed.. haha, gotta love it!

we used a trailer car so it might've been slightly off, but we know its well into the 70's
Has anyone done more in skateboarding than Danny way other than Tony Hawk (although in a different way)?

@brummie What makes it a street board component vs some other kind of component? They're a different kind of skateboard, but they're still skateboards. This is (was) the skateboard speed record, not the street skate speed record.
I'll do this in my neighborhood with my DGK, a couple layers of clothes and being pulled by my friends cbr1000.

did you have a purpose build highspeed board like danny? seeing as he was experiencing trouble with the stability of his trucks, surely to top that speed you needed one? and how come you don't do it again to break a world record? not worth your time huh?
how about SKATEBOARDING PIONEER i think thats a fitting description, that guy has got to have the hugest set of kahoonah's to do the amazing stuff he does on a sk8board....
@ironmaidenmanic Take a look at how steep the incline was for the approach that Danny used to jump the Wall of China or any other similar world record attempts by any other skateboarders and tell me you're going to skate down something like that anytime soon, in your sleep. It's a huge feat in itself just launching yourself off one of those things and dropping or rolling into the quarter pipe section. Danny was APPROACHING 50 mph when he launched over the Wall.

you guys at WorldSportTV should get in contact with IGSA or something. IGSA's fastest downhill skateboard race saw competitors hitting over 70mph last year. now those are real speed records on skateboards.
@pr0dd2k9 and hes not the only skater who goes 80mph james kelly , jackson shapeira and more all keep up withh this speed in most of their races and are pushing it even further
@brummie Where's the line between a street component and any other ones? At what size or duro does a set of wheels cease being "street"? What width truck?

@brummie What counts as street wheels? 55mm 99a? 50mm? 60mm? 80a? 90a? What's the average length of a street deck? 31.5? 32?
Why does it matter anyways? Fastest speed on a slalom board would be more interesting imo.
Myself, and many other "long boarders" (AKA skateboarders) see them as the same thing.

@BBS7JUDGE Foot stop. It allows for a more comfortable speed tuck (not that Danny is doing one) It's more commonly seen on downhill skateboards.
@brummie Answer the rest of the questions. At what point does personal preference make something not standard? Bushings? Trucks? Deck size?

correction bud, not a longboard, a board made in the likeness of a street deck, made significantly longer.
Companies (though not in the small world of street skaters) already make boards made for this stuff, something like an evo would have been easier, safer, and would have significantly reduced the chances of speed wobble. As well as wheels designed for speed.
Respect to Danny Way for trying it, for sure, not so much for not knowing how to do it properly.

@ironmaidenmanic You should contact Danny Way and Professor Schmitt and show them how it's done. Better yet you should find out who they are in the first place. Skateboarding has come a long way since the concave.

@Fortune2point0 no they are completely different. completely differnt to ride there is still a speed record for a bog standard car aswell as the suped up ones so why not for a plank?
I bet that this comment section is full of comments like this, but... It's really cool what Danny did here, but that being said, a few downhill longboarders have been that fast and faster without the safety net of holding onto a bar, which makes it much easier.
Anyways, very cool, but they could have benefited by checking out the downhill longboarding scene first.
@brummie How is that not a long board? How is it "modified"? It's just a long plank of wood. The "engineers" he had work on it clearly know very little about skateboards. I could make a better board in my garage.
A monster truck and a pickup aren't the same, but you don't see people asking how many trailers/cars a pickup can run over.
What counts as "standard" or a "mod" by your definition? No personal preference allowed? What trucks? What size/duro wheels? What length/width deck?

It's obvious Danny Way doesn't longboard :D. If he really wanted to handle speed I think he should've learned a good, comfortable, aero tuck, maybe euro style, and chosen a good aero helmet. Then, he could've made better truck choices by putting a TKP in the back and an RKP in the front, low degree. Maybe for a better board he could've chosen a Landyachtz R5, but I'm not sure how it'd work with a TKP in the back. Anyway, this isn't so great now after seeing Mischo Erban's video, but still cool.

To those who say that speed is easier on a longboard than a street deck, you are right and that is why he used a really long skateboard that has a longer wheelbase than the board mischo Erban used while riding gravity so he really did kick Danny ways butt with that

@Fortune2point0 no he isn't. thats not even a long board. it is a tottaly modifide not normal atall. you couldnt go in a shop and just buy it.this is a board built specialy for this. not a normal board.e.g a pick up would not stand a chance against a monster truck. just because there both cars doesnt mean they are the same.
