I was there! wow.I dont remember seeing that many empty seats, it seemed like there were a million people there at the time. I was from a small town where I was the only skateboarder so I guess seeing more than 1 or 2 skateboarders seemed like a million.
I remember getting a G&S Trucks sticker from Bill Danforth (which I still have to this day). This brought a flood of memories back, thanks for uploading this.

Wow... small world. I must have skated there with you then... cool.
I got sponsored at this event by Zorlac thanks to Tom Boyle. I drove down from Toronto with him and Weiss. Boyle got second behind Mike Conroy in the Am finals. Truly amazing skating. I had a blast and almost died a couple times coming back over the spine to the vert ramp... very tricky... ha. Lots of great memories but I don't remember how the event was judged, I didn't make the finals, that I know, but I skated OK I guess.

@Take the red pill Sounded like he was. Highlighting the Rock N Roll, meanwhile that was Danny's plainest trick. Very generic names for everything, even though many had been invented already. He probably got a crash course on ramp skating the week leading up to this.

@GrantBorden I was an am at this event too. I rode for Santa Cruz at the time. I was hurt, and after the first round decided to not to continue because I was so outclassed. I crossed my name off the list for the semis and told the judges to bump the next guy up then sat in the audience. Do you remember how they sent four guys straight to the finals, cut six or eight, then had a semi final with twelve who got cut to six for the finals? How did you do?

There's only about a two year period where what you said is plausible, but it forgets about Hawk's decade of dominance and innovation before Way could even ride.
