The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is an action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. It was released in Japan and North America in November 1998, followed by PAL. Ocarina of Time is the fifth game in The Legend of Zelda series, and the first with 3D graphics.
The player controls Link in the fantasy land of Hyrule on a quest to stop the evil king Ganondorf, traveling through time and navigating dungeons and an overworld. The game introduced features such as a target-lock system and context-sensitive buttons that have since become common in 3D adventure games. Music plays an important role, as the player must learn to play numerous songs on an ocarina.
The game was followed by a sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, in 2000. Ocarina of Time was re-released as part of The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition promotional disc for the GameCube, as well as for the iQue Player in China. An enhanced version of the game for the Nintendo 3DS, Ocarina of Time 3D, was released in 2011. Both the GameCube and 3DS versions featured Master Quest, an alternative version of the game with new puzzles and increased difficulty.
The fairy Navi awakens Link from a nightmare in which he witnesses a man in black armor pursuing a young girl on horseback. Navi brings Link to the Great Deku Tree, who is cursed and near death. The Deku Tree tells Link a "wicked man of the desert" cursed him and seeks to conquer the world, and that Link must stop him. Before dying, the Great Deku Tree gives Link the Spiritual Stone of the Forest and sends him to Hyrule Castle to speak with Hyrule's princess.
At the Hyrule Castle garden, Link meets Princess Zelda, who believes Ganondorf, the Gerudo king, is seeking the Triforce, a holy relic that gives its holder godlike power. Zelda asks Link to obtain the three Spiritual Stones so he can enter the Sacred Realm and claim the Triforce before Ganondorf reaches it. Link collects the other two stones: the first from Darunia, leader of the Gorons, and the second from Ruto, princess of the Zoras. Link returns to Hyrule Castle, where he sees Ganondorf chase Zelda and her caretaker Impa on horseback, like in his nightmare, and unsuccessfully attempts to stop him. Inside the Temple of Time, he uses the Ocarina of Time, a gift from Zelda, and the Spiritual Stones to open the door to the Sacred Realm. There he finds the Master Sword, but as he pulls it from its pedestal, Ganondorf, having snuck into the Temple after Link, appears and claims the Triforce.
Seven years later, an older Link awakens in the Sacred Realm and is met by Rauru, one of the seven sages who protects the entrance to the Sacred Realm. Rauru explains that Link's spirit was sealed for seven years until he was old enough to wield the Master Sword and defeat Ganondorf, who has now taken over Hyrule. The seven sages can imprison Ganondorf in the Sacred Realm, but five are unaware of their identities as sages. Link is returned to the Temple of Time, where he meets the mysterious Sheik, who guides him to free five temples from Ganondorf's control and allow each temple's sage to awaken. Link befriended all five sages as a child: his childhood friend Saria, the Sage of the Forest Temple; Darunia, the Sage of the Fire Temple; Ruto, the Sage of the Water Temple; Impa, the Sage of the Shadow Temple; and Nabooru, leader of the Gerudos in Ganondorf's absence, the Sage of the Spirit Temple. After the five sages awaken, Sheik reveals herself to be Zelda in disguise, and the seventh sage. She tells Link that Ganondorf's heart was unbalanced, causing the Triforce to split into three pieces. Ganondorf acquired only the Triforce of Power, while Zelda received the Triforce of Wisdom and Link the Triforce of Courage.

I actually did that in Majora’s Mask once (I played the first part of mm before I started oot). I almost died going back down to get it too because I hadn’t given myself as much time as I should have to complete the temple.

I love how a lot of the struggles that came from this video stem from the fact that this guy was playing a 60fps mod when barely anything was adapted to suit it. That Phantom Ganon fight was hilarious just how much faster his blasts were going than they go in the original version of the game.
Agreed, the Ship of Harkinien build is way better for 60 FPS OoT considering it was decompiled and recompiled to work with 60 FPS

@@ahumanbeingfromtheearth1502 the issue is N64 emulation just sucks when your playing on an actual N64 you can't notice how the framerate is cause it's the set hardware on PC however when someone emulates 20 fps looks like absolute trash cause modern PCs are usually running things like uh idk anything intensive in 2023 i haven't paid attention to what's released hell even 2013 has things that look more natural at 20 fps on pc than emulated OoT (the pc port slaps though just dont mention you downloaded a rom in the discord cause nintendo ceos are cringe)

@@ImPersonNation in 98 it was a game changer, first game to have lock on targeting and set the standards for 3D action adventure games. It may not stand up well 23 years later but I still thoroughly enjoy playing OOT as well as Majoras Mask to this day, probably because I played them as a kid but I still think they are solid games.

The official versions of the game are hella less buggy, but watching Uber Phantom Ganon spank you was worth it
It's his framerate not the game itself. The game is coded in 20+ fps if you manage to somehow unlock the framerate, the game will get buggy as hell.

I've beaten Master Quest around 11 times already, but in my very first playthrough of the normal version I didn't know I was able to bottle fairies. My english was sht and I had to play it mostly based on trial and error.

Apparently, it just leave enough room for your to actually fall on top of it. Now i don't have to waste a senzu bean on that cavern in the future.
Yeah I just usually backflip off the shorter fence towards it as Child Link.
Most of the 8 year olds were able to figure out that trick. It's probably one of the most enticing tricks you can think up on your own early game.
I also just back flipped over the tiny fence I never even realized there was a "correct" way besides that

@@leargamma4912 His issues with targeting was because he was trying to lock on by aiming the center of the screen/camera at what he wanted to target, like in Dark Souls games, instead of having Link face what he wanted to target, like in Zelda games.

@@NobaraGamezzz You can upgrade your wallet pouch by killing golden skulltulas. You get the adult's wallet (200 rupees) by killing 10 and the giant's wallet (500 rupees) by killing 20. You can collect these rewards in the Golden Skulltula House in Kakariko Village. I hope this helps!

@@8Kazuja8 FPS also changes jump distance of link and length of hookshot... it's incredible how much is linked to FPS that we wouldn't believe if we didn't know. I still think the original is the best way to play the game... hopefully we get to have a perfect recreation with HD+high framerate, because this game definitely needs it!

Having played OOT dozens of times this had me screaming on the inside, but major brownie points for getting the piece of heart above Dodongo’s Cavern as a child.
He's got that "I don't know I can't do this so it works" thing just like Egoraptor.

Edit: PHANTOM GANON ISN'T SUPPOSED TO THROW 2 ORBS??? Apparently most of my struggles were caused by the 30fps mod breaking things. Otherwise I would have breezed through it like a golden god.

This version of OoT is kind of depressing... the Zora king doesn't Mweep when he scoots over. (also many glitches that didn't exist in the original... it probably has to do framerate? the game was made to be played in 20fps lol)

@paula I don't think it's bad to modify a game to make it look better in this sense, it's not better resolution, textures, framerate makes the game worse... but of course, it takes time to make the versions play like the original when it's not as simple as just making the graphics better and increasing the framerate, this game was obviously not made for that. And, honestly, I would love to play an HD version with the original models, but I also want it to be played exactly the same.

I think the issue you had that made some bosses feel more difficult was due to a 60fps mod making their attacks be at triple speed, specially when you had to play tennis with phantom Ganon, great content as always pongsifu (Not sarcasm)

I love how he got the Dodongo's heart piece the unintended way and thought nothing of it. I also completely agree with the bomb wall puzzle/skill check that he ran into, as a kid I always had the same problem timing it just right and I always thought it was a really weird and clumsy sort of trick that seemed more like it should hide a secret than be a part of the dungeon's progression
To me it always Was obvious that you'd just have to place it perfectly. There is a tiny ledge for bombs to Land on after all
@@lolschrauber What's weird is that that's literally the only time in the game anything like that is ever asked of the player, and it happens right away as soon as you get the bombs. Then you're never asked to throw a bomb so perfectly while throwing from a relatively small platform ever again. It's definitely odd from a design standpoint, whether one figures it out intuitively or not

@@jacob3178259 Its not that simple. Since the people porting the games to PC dont have the actual source code, they dont know how it runs so they make them from scratch which is why they run horribly most of the time.
@@nucleus691 Not necessarily, they have decrypted roms you can find online and you can run them on Citra no problem, if not, decrypters are also available so you can decrypt your ported code from your games.

For the fire temple, its not as bad because the boss room is right next to the entrance.
But for other dungeons and temples, its a pain in the ass.
@@SeanLaMontagne IMO it doesn’t take very long to get through without taking damage after you’ve been through it a few times like he has. By then you know what to expect.

This is one of my favourite games that I played as a kid and this was friggin' hilarious. This mod is clearly glitchy as all heck, though it looks nice. I never saw half the weirdness you did. Bravo, though, it's very hard to go through old games like this with their weird old jankiness.
This game has aged incresibly well imo, especially when upscaled to smooth out all the lines. I think some of the first 3d games actually aged better visually than a lot of later ones because there was a time where everything looked almost real but was just far enough to be more creepy than anything

Straight up - you've died more times in the first phase than I did playing this game, Majoras Mask, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess combined. And I got this game the year it came out.

I was equally bad at this game the first time I played it. I replayed the 3DS release after 15 years and I literally didn't die once and humiliated every boss in my way.
Unlike my first experience with that game, now I can read.
