It's a whole societal issue. City life is too stressful and this has resulted in a phenomenon which Eric has pointed out, that is whenever there is a free window, people (i.e. young to old) just want a breather to do their own things. Maybe saying we should stop chasing GDP and look at having a more relaxed living environment in this day and age is too simplistic, but I feel this will truly help. Maintaining a high pressure cooker environment will not help the situation, even if we throw in incentives such as money, leaves etc

As a SME employer, I believe the parental leave scheme will hinder SME with small worker forces to consider a new hire who might be starting a family. Only jobs that can have 75% or more time that can WFH will be able to make arrangements for new adults who want to start a family and also balance their career.

The parental leave for father is to bring kids to clinic hospital check up and in case for kids sick. You guys are parent should be aware of that. Always think as a parent, not as a employee. Because the leave name is called parental leave

this is the problem when you have people without child making decision.. giving extra maternity leave doesnt help much.. want to help young parent and their toddler? give them more child sick leave.. that will definitely give us more reason to have more children..

Our birth rate is below1. It is beyond the tipping point.

For education I feel parents shud nurture but not push the kids to extremes. Today if the geniuses get into GEP with only 50% capacity activated while those who artificially pushed the kid to 110% capacity already just to get in, it’s not going to be beneficial anyway.
As for having kids, so far amongst my frens, I noticed it’s majority the gal side not willing. I think in general there’s strong reasons like:
    - gals have their own career nowadays
    - ppl are more well travelled and enjoy tis freedom
    - ppl dun see kids as a form of retirement and old age care compared to older generations
    - kids tis era didn’t grow up with as much sense of responsibilities and they cannot imagine taking on such huge life changing decisions
As someone who’s been taking care of my newborn twins full time for the past 5 years, I can tell u I’m definitely not going to take care of their kids and tie myself down again in future.

At this point our govt should focus its resources on increasing population for the needs of sustenance.
we are too far down the rabbit hole. People have been programmed to think that Singapore is too costly a place to raise a family. No one wants any babies
