so many seniors now switching jobs to become cleaners you think they have passion to clean? hahaha all work for money ..any job thats less stress suits those seniors

It’s not abt soft, it’s the environment. When I started working 20 years ago, I really eat caifan and take public transport everyday and feels very ‘normal’ bcuz majority of ppl doing the same. But today a similar age does this, he becomes the ‘abnormal’ bcuz a lot of ppl are eating better, taking grab for transportation etc. The lvl of determination and focus to delay gratification is definitely much harder with social media.

While it's true in some way for the boomers to say that we are the strawberry generation, they themselves has big issues too. Many of them are not willing to keep up with the current technological advancement, then they kept blaming technology and A.I for taking over their job, and how the old days were better. All they do is blame blame and blame. Kinda strawberry of them too isn't it? 😅

I work for money for 15 years. Then i use the money for my passion.

To each their own, as each has its pros and cons. Just have to accept when things don't work out. Maybe one way to get around the "this or that" is to review some related "wisdoms" eg "do what u love and the money will follow", or "earn money first, then pursue passion".

On the point of strawberry gen, younger people may seem softer because: 1. There is no need to have that kind of resilience that our older gen had. Last time ppl fight wars, work hard labour, have to put food on table. Nowadays it's not so survival-driven and people care about QOL and various material comforts. Naturally younger folks would be a bit more "picky" with their jobs or would quit more easily etc. To a certain extent, CK is right because if push comes to shove then younger ppl *could* in theory work harder. But this is also not 100% true, because if resilience is not being honed in most young people's lived experiences, then it should make sense that this younger gen is truly more "strawberry". 2. Another interesting perspective I'd heard of is this - in the past, if you were willing to just work a little bit harder than the rest, you could have done much better than the average person. E.g., boomers who had gone to Poly or Uni generally earn above median incomes. And society was also much more meritocratic back then. But today, the competition is quite different, working much harder (e.g. 50%) than others might only yield you perhaps 10% better income. It's possible that young people just don't see the attractiveness of climbing corporate ladders etc anymore, because ppl who come from better socio-economic backgrounds already had a headstart. That could be why people are looking to different ideas to define success, not prioritising their careers etc. Simply put, even if you prioritise, what difference does it make? If there's no difference, then it makes sense to just cruise along and focus on other things like travel, family, or hobbies. Bringing this back to one older podcast, which yall discussed this redditor (?) who said that he/she felt like just a number to Sg's GDP, and that they feel 'being average' is already feeling like 'below average'. I thought it was an opinion that aligned well with the above point #2. But I remember in the discussion yall only felt that the redditor was comparing themselves too much with others, had too much free time, no other interest in life, etc, which I felt missed the entire point of the redditor's hopelessness about their economic/career prospects in an unequal, materialistic and competitive society

Passion comes later: work for money, invest your money, accumulate income, live off your investment income. Then stop working and pursue your passions!

Massive disagree with CK. Based on my 20 years of hiring experience globally in organisations having 300k headcounts, the younger gen are definitely softer. Not hungry, throw towel when things do not go their way, expects a dollar in return for 50 cents effort. Mentally they expect things to be easy else they will quit. Since 2017 this trend is very apparent.

im 1mil at 32 this year no real estate, just a bto and a luxury car. 1.1mil not counting cpf, car and house not counted as well

Work with passion & any set back will be seen as a wrong approach. Rise and persevere again till it’s a success. Passion overcome Failure. Money will come as a result. Passion enable you to have a growth mindset. Growth mindset enable improvement to create your moat.

"strawberry" generation is a result of our macro environment, parental upbringing that shapes their overall pov on having day jobs. Firstly they understood day jobs as a mean to the end, to put food on the table, similar to how typical employers view the employees, operating cost to sustain the business. Secondly the macro environment is openly n increasingly eroding our buying power, if our employers doesn't allow employees to grow w them, then in the end employees r effectively short changing themselves if they stay status quo, this is crystal clear to the gen z as they r not clouded like the previous gen with bread n butter issue. In short this is a just misalignment in expectation between employers n gen z, strawberry itself is grossly insufficient to define gen z. Im nearing my 40s and this is my pov on gen z, as a employer is either u learn how to lead n groom them or u risk getting obsolete and left behind.

I would rather earn lesser, healthier with younger look than this guy earning more than 15K per month but look 20 years older than his actual age

I feel like the topic turned into "should you work hard for money or not?", and has nothing much to do with passion. A lot of sound advice to prioritise things in life financially and responsibly, but not the fact that pursuing passion is a different consideration.

Same here. I do think 2025 is going to have a rough start, but relatively well 1st half. 1 surprise rally I’m looking at is an end wars rally. This will be really good news for economic and inflation. Expect earnings especially NVDA to lead market higher as well. However 2nd half is challenging bcuz I feel after a back to back 20+% years, a good 1st half, hype dying down, even higher prices and valuations, new presidency heading into 2nd year stats, Trump new policies effects surfacing. But the above is only for stocks. Crypto still has a lot of positive triggers at least until $200-250k BTC, then probably peak out this cycle. Bcuz crypto dun have earnings to show, with constant pushing by Trump in adoption, it can really push higher despite rocky equities.
