One old trick I want to do to my 89 K1500, is to mount a Ford solenoid on the firewall. Takes just one big wire down to the starter. Jump the original Chevy solenoid so it is taken out of the loop. Works great, you can hook a remote start button and bump the engine over from under the hood. I had this setup on my 74 Nova and it worked fine.

@@ArtoconnellYW, I got that from an old muscle car mag...can't remember which one. Surprised I don't see it more on sbc setups.

I have the same truck. Same year: same issues. So you did 4 gauge wire from alt to the fuse box?

Yes, 4 gauge from fuse box to alt, then alt to battery. Don't forget to check grounds and maybe add some as well

Im changing thoose too!! I was looking for oem wire or some 6 gauge wire from the batt to the fuse box... so i think im running 4 gauge to wire the + batt to the fuse box, same 4 gauge from the alt to the batt ( can It be without fuse?). AND some 4 gauge to the body-chassis grounds..

Can you tell me that those two small wires are that are grounded to the thermostat housing? Mine have been cut off since I bought my truck and the temp gauge and speedo dont work. Somebody said check that ground

I dont know for sure what those wires go to. My 91 I believe had one more wire on there than my 95, but I've never looked into what they go to

A year later any issues ima follow this exactly how you’ve done it it seams to be the easiest route for a 98 suburban any advice

No issues at all after doing this. If I were to do it again, I would just get a top post battery instead of using side post to top post adapters. But even with the adapters I have had no issue

@@black91silverado82 what about if I’m using a 140 amp alternator for alt to bat pos fuse is it ok to use a 140amp fuse block

@@bamseals4126 I don't think it would necessarily hurt anything, but my 95 and my 91 silverado did not have a fuse from battery to alternator. My 95, which is the one in the video, only has the main fuse that's in the fuse box which is the positive cable from alternator to fuse box.
So a fuse wouldn't hurt, but I dont think its necessary since it didn't come with one from the factory

I have 1991 k1500 What fuse should I put from my alternator yo battery I’m putting 0 gauge power wire it’s a 140a alternator from power masters and will the fuse be closer to the battery or alternator?

    • @black91silverado82

On mine, I dont have a fuse from battery to alternator. Or even alternator to fuse box. The stock fuse is in the fuse box and I never touched it. I would say it probably wouldn't hurt to have a fuse from battery to alternator, but my truck didn't come with one stock. I dont remember my 91 c1500 having one either
