Great tips. In summary... Tip 1: Wait 5 seconds (and raise eyebrow, open mouth, or smile) after asking a question for them to feel encouraged, process what was said, and respond. Tip 2: Strategically place favorite items out of reach so they will have to ask (i.e. move from low shelf to high shelf) Tip 3: When playing together, use onomatopoeia words such as bang, crash, vroom, chooga chooga.
This makes sense. When someone asks me a question in a different language, it takes me a minute to figure out what they said to me and find the proper words to respond
My brother didn't talk until 4 years no speech therapy no nothing. He has no issues he is a successful bussiness man and now we wish he would talk less 😂

This Video is pretty accurate. I'm a german Kindergarten teacher and we work the same way. Encouraging the children to talk instead of talking over them. I once had a training about this in regards of books. If you want to encourage your child in terms of talking the less text the better. And then do not explain what's in the pictures - just remain silent till the child starts speaking. The child also decides when to turn the pages. It's hard and feels weird at the beginning - especially when the child is not used to this and remains silent for quite a while as well. But after some time it will start talking and the more often you do this the more natural it becomes. The child talks and you just respond to it - that's how you engage in a conversation. There's also a variant with a flashlight that the child can hold to highlight what it sees and to make it more exciting
I am in France and I thought I was weird for always waiting for my child to answer and showing instead of talking all the time... I am definitely the quietest mum in the park other mums talk so, so much and are always controlling what their children do.. Thank you for your tips. My 20month year old understands quite a bit (he points to eyes, nose, ears, hands and some items / animals when asked) but only says very little. He does gesture and babble though. Really looking forward to him talking and walking. He was 2 months early and he is taking his time with both things...

Putting toys high on shelfs can incourage climbing too. Please be sure your furniture is fasten to walls to protect them from heavy furniture falling on them.

Hi Emma, I just want to briefly say that I love watching your videos! I have followed your suggestions when it came to baby walkers, and I noticed the results when my daughter started taking her steps at 10 months old, and now she's a full-on walker at 12 months old. I appreciate these current suggestions for communication, so I can help her develop her words and communicate back when she's ready ❤️
It is interesting what you said about the low shelf. We follow Montessori, so we have most things at her level. However I do have her favourite book at a higher level and a sensory tray at a high level as she needs to be watched for that activity. We have also been doing this with food only putting a select number of foods in front of her and waiting for her to say more or show us she wants more. Want to create a balance of promoting language but also giving her lots of freedom and yes spaces. We have also found it helpful to have ' language baskets' on her low shelf. With a selection of say farm animals or vehicles which we then say the word. She has started to repeat some words.
What about reading books and singing songs? We read a lot of books and sing everyday. When he was 1,5year he made a lot of compound words everything related with car. I asked few question just like this video asking and waiting toddler to answer. I talk with toddler a lot, but just daily basic what his doing and make them into words. And explained him things with simple sentence when we go outside what his see and exsample dog do. Now toddler is 2years old and talk a lot and asking questions a lot. He can use ” I ,my mine”. One day he just said ” I don’t understand.”when we talking about adresses”. But now I talk less when he starting to talk and listening more and answering his questions. Ps. Hey there Katie! I had a similar thing with my son! He's just over 2 years of age now and is speaking more. He had a tongue tie so we were worried he was not speaking at almost the age of 2! We took him to get checked out a few times but there was nothing wrong. When we started taking him to the park more and he was interacting more with other kids he started speaking, he would watch the other kids and learnt from them. I don't know if that's helpful at all 🤗
Hey Katie these tips should help your little one. Also great that you are in the process of getting him into speech. Encouraging him to communicate to you by using gestures, babble and then modelling the word he is trying to communicate will also help.
@islamic8064 you both should invest in flashcards I just started using them with my son and it seems to keep him interested and he trys to mimic my sounds, I suggest the toddlers can read brand or the eric carle animal set they are pricy but very well made and amazing art that draws in the children's attention. I hope this reply finds you both I spent 60+ dollars on flashcards and have limited TV also books of any sort are very helpful.
Point 1 nearly got me: my wife and I have been talking to our turning 2 y/o twins non-stop and both are now bi-lingual; my son is reading individual letters and thinking of other words he knows that have these letters and combining multiple clauses in his sentences. Whereas their cousin who was not spoken to much had a language delay until he started going to kindy (where he was spoken to). But, yes, wait for a response - good tip.
Emma. I am a father to a baby boy who is 19 months old. I am British and his Mum is Thai, and we all love together in Phuket, Thailand. I speak to him regularly in English and Mum regularly speaks to him in Thai. A couple of local parents suggested their kids were speaking more words at this age, so now I'm worried a little. This video has some great tips.
My baby's speech therapist advised us to use only one language at home when we took our son to the doctor because he wasn't speaking at 2 yests. Hubby and I talked to him in 3 languages eh. Now m learning to speak my hubby's tribal language along with my son and there's a drastic change 😢
I’ve used a lot of your techniques on my children and it actually works. The only exception on how to get your baby or toddler to stop throwing didn’t work for me so now I’m trying to figure out other ways to get my toddler to stop.

Parents we have 24 hours in a day to spend teaching and helping our children learn that's why it's important to plan your childbirth and the brazing of a child accordingly it's very hard and possible in some situations to be able to work and raise your kid with efficiency parenting is a 24-hour full-time seven day a week job even after they become 18 or 21
I think also depending on the child, just talking to them like you would talk to anyone else might boost their language skills. My mom straight up skipped baby talk and spoke to me in full sentences in two languages from the time I was born. By 1 year old, I was bilingual and speaking complete sentences, even to the point where I was able to communicate that I wanted my ears pierced (got them done at 14 months old lol). Unfortunately, the trade-off to my advanced language skills was my tragic incompetence at mathematics as I got older 😆
It's wild that I work as an RBT and I give that delay (latency of response) for work babies but I do tend to respond differently with my grandbaby I'm raising. I do tend to naturally talk and narrate as I do at work but I don't give the space to respond. You remind me that it's needed for all! Goes to show even us in the field and working closely with speech, occupational therapy and physical therapy need help too! Love your channel! His (grandson) momma is my daughter and on the spectrum and got ALL the diagnosis but ASD until 16 because the world saw this as primarily male and antisocial back then (I adopted in 2005). But she inspired my career to assist my work kiddos and caregivers to maybe not experience some of our life due to a lack of understanding and reinforcing without knowledge and offer all the ability of utmost Independence and freedom!
This waiting thing is real. He's having his food and then stop, I notice if I wait and wait then he will have some more food. I'm going to practice waiting. His love for sound effects is real. My gosh it can be tiring for me when I do it too much just to get him to eat 🤭.
Emma, about Topic No. 1: I usually talk a lot, but I don't feel it is the reason why my 17 months old has not talked yet. He understands pretty much everything we ask. We play a lot "where is the" (where is papa? Where is the banana? Where is the moon?) And it is amazing how many words he already knows, and in 2 languages....! When we wait for him to give us a response or talk to us, he usually does it with "Baaa", "Daaa" and pointing at things... So, what should we do?
Hi! It’s great your little one is saying a few words at 19months. According to the CDC an 18-month-old should be able to say three or more words besides “mama” or “dada”. I hope that helps!

That's not what an occupational therapist does. If anything you should go to your pediatrician or childcare support organisation (if such a thing exists where you live) with these questions.
My child understands every instructions like bring the shoes sit come give me a kiss etc everything throughout the day. But does not utter words instead makes sound n points out objects he need. He is 16 months old.
@@ashalakra399mine just turned 1 year old last june 24 and her pedia wants her to talk she said she must say like “want milk” etc. Or else she would need speech therapy. But mu baby can say mama, dada..
my 9 m/o loves to scream a "hammmm" sound at me when we are eating together, he does this when he wants to drink or when he wants more. In Germany (not everyone) we eat bread in the morning and he gets some little squares and when he finished one he puts his arms in front of him and screams 🥹 Love it so much.

Haha - looks i have done something right even before seeing this video. My 2 year old distinguishes between a "Steam Locomotive" and a "Diesel Locomotive" - fully pronounced - when playing with trains. And I used the cho cho cho - sounds to point out the differences. He said the German word for "fire engine" also fully pronounced like when he was around 18 months. This is a long word in syllables "Feu-er-wehr-au-to". I have always encouraged him to tell me what he wanted and never accepted whining and I did not guess to quickly shut him off. A little harsh sometimes, but works very well. I sometimes felt like a police interrogator, especially when he misplaced his favorite toy. He is brought up bilingually, English would be a third language. We do nursery rimes in English for fun. I begin them and let him say the last few words. "...the dish ran away" - "with the spoon" he finishes in English proudly. He is 2 years and 2 months now I am very proud of him - as you probably can tell.

Emma good morning, this topic is really helpful my 2 and half girl is not quite there speaking wise she knows some words and sometimes I don't even know what kind of language she is speaking but she talk to much by her own way to explain what she mean.
Hi! So glad this video can help you and your little one. Given your little one's age it might be worth checking in with a paediatric speech pathologist (AKA Speech and Language Therapist). At 2 and half we generally expect the little one to be able to say 50 words and be joining 2 words together. So for example they might say "More milk". A speech pathologist would be able to check in and give you more specific advice if needed, to encourage your little one to talk more.

Those noises the new borns start making as soon as they are out are talking. Just play and make the same noises and make words that sound like that and they start talking fast. My daugher's first word was "Hi" after the H sound.
Hi @Emma, my son is 3 yo and he still talks too less. He seems to be quite a moody kid who will converse only when he feels like. Otherwise he keeps on singing rhymes and blabbering throughout. He knows numerics and alphabets however doesn’t reply for a conversation. Any suggestions?
Hi @EmmaHubbard, my little one is 20 months old, she says words here and there (that, this, mum, dad, dog, duck, no, yes), shes also learning a second language and I've been told this could delay her speech and i might get an explosion of both languages when the time is right. I know I shouldn't compare, but kids her age at day care are stringing two words together. She has done it one day and forgotten them the next (I did it and Good Dog) Is there anything I can do to assist and support her better? Shes very good at picking up instructions in both languages though! So i know she knows. i.e. pick up clothes and put them in the washing basket, pack away toys, pick up etc....

i understand waiting for them to think of a response but im pretty sure my 2 year ols son has adhd, so hell only pay attention for maybe 30 seconds before deciding he wants something else instead or he gets frustrated... idk what to do :(

I have been doing all of these techniques for a year…daughter is 18 months and doesn’t talk. Also see a speech therapist and do all of those techniques. Been reading books 1-2 hours a day since birth. No hearing problems. 0 on the ASD assessment. She will nod, shake her head, point to what she wants/bring it to me, and uses sign language. What gives? It's great that she is able to use gestures to communicate. At this age we would also be expecting a lot of words and words would be the primary way of communicating. If you are concerned and you are able to I recommend you book an appointment with a speech pathologist (AKA speech and language therapist). They will be able to give you some specific strategies to help with her language development if needed.

I would try these strategies with your little one and also model the words he is trying to communicate when he points to something or says "hmmmm". It might also be worth while popping into a speech pathologist (AKA speech and language pathologist) to get some individualised strategies to encourage your little one to use more words.

At this age, he will babble (so make the mumma and bababa sounds). Waiting for him to respond with babble is fine, but it is too early to expect him to say words.
Any advice is appreciated. My son is 22 months old and still doesn't have a single word. He's smart in other ways. He points to things so I will say it for him, which I usually do, but sometimes I'll just look silently hoping he'll try to say it but he never does. He just screams. Damn kid is higher pitch than Mariah Carey. My wife stayed home with him for the first 18 months, and I've been home with him for the last 4. I don't want to rush him, but seeing zero progress after all this time is stressing me out. I feel like I'm failing him.
It's great that your son is able to point to things that he wants and you respond by giving him the items. The tips in this video can help but given his age, we would be hoping for a few words by now. If possible I recommend you get his hearing assessed to ensure he does not have any hearing difficulties, as this can cause language delay. I also recommend arranging an appointment with a speech pathologist (AKA speech and language therapist) as they can complete an assessment and give you tailored recommendations to help your little one talk. Generally there is a wait to get into a speech pathologist, so I would book an appointment now and get the hearing assessment while waiting for the appointment. I hope that helps.
My 18 month old DOES know several words and can say them quite clearly, and she also knows a couple words in sign language, but she still prefers to grunt and point constantly. It drives me nuts because I know she knows the word but she won’t say it most of the time! What is this about?
So I’m a new mom and my son is 18 month old and 2 wks and he’s only doing plenty baby sounds but no words. From middle of 17th month he was saying mama more clearly but then he stopping! He also used to say mam mam mam only when he’s crying and wants me t😢pick up. Pediatrician say it’s not emergency but I can monitor more and there are early intervention therapy i can. He laughs at the baby shows. He comes to his dad and i with arms up for pick up and I have been saying the vroom vroom especially because he loves anything with wheels. I even feel like it’s my fault because his dad introduced him to cocomelon from 3-4 months. He knows the twinkle little star, the Barney I love y😢song, the abc song and the wheels on bus song as i have been singing them in different tones and with sound effects since he was baby! I’m also at home with him so he’s not in early head start or daycare so why isn’t he saying some actual words yet??!! 😩 😢
My 10 month old just starting doing the mum mum mum mum when crying and wanting to he picked up. I'm wistfully hoping he really means "mama" and it's not just coincidence.
@RahulKumar-kn6it my son is now 22 months old. He does talk a bit but he is still behind. The pediatrician said that he isn't concerned but that he wants to see more speech. I have a feeling he will need some kind of extra help. He is very very active and hyper but has a hard time slowing down and expressing himself. Tantrums have been a concern lately too 😫

My son can say things like mama, dada, kitty, ABC, 123, efg, i got you, I did it, no, yeah and a few others but he only says them when he wants and isn't using words like "more" or "drink" nor will be wave hi or bye. My toddler is 2 years old, he do recite 1-10 and A-z but wouldn't say words like (mummy, daddy, come, go,no, fine, water) etc but fluently says numbers and alphabet. I've tried to communicate these words with him numerously even give him videos to watch that help toddlers say word, but he wouldn't say them but loves watching the videos, rather he'll be speaking babish that sounds more like Chinese language( it troubles me) Also, he doesn't like eating solid foods. Most times he'll run round the house, really dramatic and cry whenever we offer him solid food. Sometimes i and his dad will hold him and force him to eat( at times when the first spoon enters his mouth, he'll continue eating but not much) what he loves eating is just cereal, Custard and bread, biscuits, tea. It's been really though for us as parents. I'm struggling as a mom😢 please mothers here, if there's an advice you can give or any recommendation I'd appreciate...please It's really frustrating.😢
kids respond very well to counterintuitive events. instead of asking them, or being boring about it, you can grab the toy and yourself say 'i want this dinosaur. its my dinosaur' and that will grab their attention and they will have an urge to engage with you, and say 'no thats my dinosaur.' only drawback is then you might have a kid who is a little joker and starts playing the same game on you with your keys or cell phone.
Why is it so important to read constantly to them then? You get pressured to read to your baby constantly to help their language develop but you just said it doesn’t make it develop any faster at all. Can’t stand everyone saying different shit. Petition that every parent video giving advice needs to have their academic sources in the notes.
Hi! Just wanted to clarify that I didn't actually say this in the video. Reading to your little one is great for language development, particularly when you pair this with pointing to the pictures to highlight what the words mean. When I talked about talking less, I am simply highlighting the importance of pausing when you have a conversation with your little one. When you pause you give them the opportunity to communicate back to you by babbling, using gestures or talking. It's this back and forth interaction which is important for language development.
my daughter just use gestures if we ask any question like if i ask "do you need this?" she will just show her hand to give it if she dont want it she will shake her head as no. if I ask her to say something she wont say it at all😢
Hi Maria it’s great that he can say Mama and Baba. I can understand that you would want him to be talking more. At 2 you would be hoping for a few more words. So to help understand why he isn’t talk much and get some specific strategies to help him learn to talk I recommend you see a speech and language therapist (AKA speech pathologist) if possible. @@doradanojevic Hello! Yes, now she speaks nonstop 😅. In June last year we went to see a therapist and since then, 3 times a week she works with her and the rest of the time I work with her at home. Now my daughter is ahead of the rest of the kids in learning. Thank you!

Putting toys high on shelfs can incourage climbing too. Please be sure your furniture is fasten to walls to protect them from heavy furniture falling on them.
I think this gave me the answer why my 8 month old babbles more at his mum and granny than when playing with me. I might barely give him any time to respond to my talk :)

It is interesting what you said about the low shelf. We follow Montessori, so we have most things at her level. However I do have her favourite book at a higher level and a sensory tray at a high level as she needs to be watched for that activity. We have also been doing this with food only putting a select number of foods in front of her and waiting for her to say more or show us she wants more.
Want to create a balance of promoting language but also giving her lots of freedom and yes spaces.
We have also found it helpful to have ' language baskets' on her low shelf. With a selection of say farm animals or vehicles which we then say the word. She has started to repeat some words.
What about reading books and singing songs?
We read a lot of books and sing everyday. When he was 1,5year he made a lot of compound words everything related with car. I asked few question just like this video asking and waiting toddler to answer. I talk with toddler a lot, but just daily basic what his doing and make them into words. And explained him things with simple sentence when we go outside what his see and exsample dog do. Now toddler is 2years old and talk a lot and asking questions a lot. He can use ” I ,my mine”. One day he just said ” I don’t understand.”when we talking about adresses”. But now I talk less when he starting to talk and listening more and answering his questions.

Hey there Katie! I had a similar thing with my son! He's just over 2 years of age now and is speaking more. He had a tongue tie so we were worried he was not speaking at almost the age of 2! We took him to get checked out a few times but there was nothing wrong. When we started taking him to the park more and he was interacting more with other kids he started speaking, he would watch the other kids and learnt from them. I don't know if that's helpful at all 🤗
Hey Katie these tips should help your little one. Also great that you are in the process of getting him into speech. Encouraging him to communicate to you by using gestures, babble and then modelling the word he is trying to communicate will also help.
@islamic8064 you both should invest in flashcards I just started using them with my son and it seems to keep him interested and he trys to mimic my sounds, I suggest the toddlers can read brand or the eric carle animal set they are pricy but very well made and amazing art that draws in the children's attention. I hope this reply finds you both I spent 60+ dollars on flashcards and have limited TV also books of any sort are very helpful.

Point 1 nearly got me: my wife and I have been talking to our turning 2 y/o twins non-stop and both are now bi-lingual; my son is reading individual letters and thinking of other words he knows that have these letters and combining multiple clauses in his sentences. Whereas their cousin who was not spoken to much had a language delay until he started going to kindy (where he was spoken to). But, yes, wait for a response - good tip.

Emma. I am a father to a baby boy who is 19 months old. I am British and his Mum is Thai, and we all love together in Phuket, Thailand. I speak to him regularly in English and Mum regularly speaks to him in Thai. A couple of local parents suggested their kids were speaking more words at this age, so now I'm worried a little. My baby's speech therapist advised us to use only one language at home when we took our son to the doctor because he wasn't speaking at 2 yests. Hubby and I talked to him in 3 languages eh. Now m learning to speak my hubby's tribal language along with my son and there's a drastic change 😢
I’ve used a lot of your techniques on my children and it actually works. The only exception on how to get your baby or toddler to stop throwing didn’t work for me so now I’m trying to figure out other ways to get my toddler to stop.

Parents we have 24 hours in a day to spend teaching and helping our children learn that's why it's important to plan your childbirth and the brazing of a child accordingly it's very hard and possible in some situations to be able to work and raise your kid with efficiency parenting is a 24-hour full-time seven day a week job even after they become 18 or 21
I think also depending on the child, just talking to them like you would talk to anyone else might boost their language skills. My mom straight up skipped baby talk and spoke to me in full sentences in two languages from the time I was born. By 1 year old, I was bilingual and speaking complete sentences, even to the point where I was able to communicate that I wanted my ears pierced (got them done at 14 months old lol). Unfortunately, the trade-off to my advanced language skills was my tragic incompetence at mathematics as I got older 😆

It's wild that I work as an RBT and I give that delay (latency of response) for work babies but I do tend to respond differently with my grandbaby I'm raising. I do tend to naturally talk and narrate as I do at work but I don't give the space to respond. You remind me that it's needed for all! Goes to show even us in the field and working closely with speech, occupational therapy and physical therapy need help too! Love your channel! His (grandson) momma is my daughter and on the spectrum and got ALL the diagnosis but ASD until 16 because the world saw this as primarily male and antisocial back then (I adopted in 2005). But she inspired my career to assist my work kiddos and caregivers to maybe not experience some of our life due to a lack of understanding and reinforcing without knowledge and offer all the ability of utmost

Emma, about Topic No. 1: I usually talk a lot, but I don't feel it is the reason why my 17 months old has not talked yet. He understands pretty much everything we ask. We play a lot "where is the" (where is papa? Where is the banana? Where is the moon?) And it is amazing how many words he already knows, and in 2 languages....!
When we wait for him to give us a response or talk to us, he usually does it with "Baaa", "Daaa" and pointing at things...
So, what should we do?
Vocally label what the item it and have him repeat it after you or show you (whichever way he is able to) that he wants it.

Hi! It’s great your little one is saying a few words at 19months. According to the CDC an 18-month-old should be able to say three or more words besides “mama” or “dada”. I hope that helps!

That's not what an occupational therapist does. If anything you should go to your pediatrician or childcare support organisation (if such a thing exists where you live) with these questions.

My child understands every instructions like bring the shoes sit come give me a kiss etc everything throughout the day. But does not utter words instead makes sound n points out objects he need. He is 16 months old.

my 9 m/o loves to scream a "hammmm" sound at me when we are eating together, he does this when he wants to drink or when he wants more. In Germany (not everyone) we eat bread in the morning and he gets some little squares and when he finished one he puts his arms in front of him and screams 🥹 Love it so much.

Haha - looks i have done something right even before seeing this video. My 2 year old distinguishes between a "Steam Locomotive" and a "Diesel Locomotive" - fully pronounced - when playing with trains. And I used the cho cho cho - sounds to point out the differences. He said the German word for "fire engine" also fully pronounced like when he was around 18 months. This is a long word in syllables "Feu-er-wehr-au-to". I have always encouraged him to tell me what he wanted and never accepted whining and I did not guess to quickly shut him off. A little harsh sometimes, but works very well. I sometimes felt like a police interrogator, especially when he misplaced his favorite toy. He is brought up bilingually, English would be a third language. We do nursery rimes in English for fun. I begin them and let him say the last few words. "...the dish ran away" - "with the spoon" he finishes in English proudly. He is 2 years and 2 months now I am very proud of him - as you probably can tell.

Emma good morning, this topic is really helpful my 2 and half girl is not quite there speaking wise she knows some words and sometimes I don't even know what kind of language she is speaking but she talk to much by her own way to explain what she mean.
Hi! So glad this video can help you and your little one. Given your little one's age it might be worth checking in with a paediatric speech pathologist (AKA Speech and Language Therapist). At 2 and half we generally expect the little one to be able to say 50 words and be joining 2 words together. So for example they might say "More milk". A speech pathologist would be able to check in and give you more specific advice if needed, to encourage your little one to talk more.
Hi as a speech therapist I agree with Emma! (Great videos) … if she talking but hard to understand that would be different than very few words.

Those noises the new borns start making as soon as they are out are talking. Just play and make the same noises and make words that sound like that and they start talking fast. My daugher's first word was "Hi" after the H sound.
Our daughter makes a sound that sounds like "Hello" as well as other talking noises.

Hi @Emma, my son is 3 yo and he still talks too less. He seems to be quite a moody kid who will converse only when he feels like. Otherwise he keeps on singing rhymes and blabbering throughout. He knows numerics and alphabets however doesn’t reply for a conversation.

Hi @EmmaHubbard, my little one is 20 months old, she says words here and there (that, this, mum, dad, dog, duck, no, yes), shes also learning a second language and I've been told this could delay her speech and i might get an explosion of both languages when the time is right. I know I shouldn't compare, but kids her age at day care are stringing two words together. She has done it one day and forgotten them the next (I did it and Good Dog) Is there anything I can do to assist and support her better? Shes very good at picking up instructions in both languages though! So i know she knows. i.e. pick up clothes and put them in the washing basket, pack away toys, pick up etc....

Been reading books 1-2 hours a day since birth. No hearing problems. 0 on the ASD assessment. She will nod, shake her head, point to what she wants/bring it to me, and uses sign language. What gives? It's great that she is able to use gestures to communicate. At this age we would also be expecting a lot of words and words would be the primary way of communicating. If you are concerned and you are able to I recommend you book an appointment with a speech pathologist (AKA speech and language therapist). They will be able to give you some specific strategies to help with her language development if needed.

I would try these strategies with your little one and also model the words he is trying to communicate when he points to something or says "hmmmm". It might also be worth while popping into a speech pathologist (AKA speech and language pathologist) to get some individualised strategies to encourage your little one to use more words.

My kid is one year six months old. He pronounces very few words like mumma and making sounds for a response . Is it too early to expect him to speak or waiting is right ?
At this age, he will babble (so make the mumma and bababa sounds). Waiting for him to respond with babble is fine, but it is too early to expect him to say words.
Any advice is appreciated. My son is 22 months old and still doesn't have a single word. He's smart in other ways. He points to things so I will say it for him, which I usually do, but sometimes I'll just look silently hoping he'll try to say it but he never does. He just screams. Damn kid is higher pitch than Mariah Carey. My wife stayed home with him for the first 18 months, and I've been home with him for the last 4. I don't want to rush him, but seeing zero progress after all this time is stressing me out. I feel like I'm failing him.
It's great that your son is able to point to things that he wants and you respond by giving him the items. The tips in this video can help but given his age, we would be hoping for a few words by now. If possible I recommend you get his hearing assessed to ensure he does not have any hearing difficulties, as this can cause language delay. I also recommend arranging an appointment with a speech pathologist (AKA speech and language therapist) as they can complete an assessment and give you tailored recommendations to help your little one talk. Generally there is a wait to get into a speech pathologist, so I would book an appointment now and get the hearing assessment while waiting for the appointment.

So I’m a new mom and my son is 18 month old and 2 wks and he’s only doing plenty baby sounds but no words. From middle of 17th month he was saying mama more clearly but then he stopping! He also used to say mam mam mam only when he’s crying and wants me t😢pick up. Pediatrician say it’s not emergency but I can monitor more and there are early intervention therapy i can. He laughs at the baby shows. He comes to his dad and i with arms up for pick up and I have been saying the vroom vroom especially because he loves anything with wheels. I even feel like it’s my fault because his dad introduced him to cocomelon from 3-4 months. He knows the twinkle little star, the Barney I love y😢song, the abc song and the wheels on bus song as i have been singing them in different tones and with sound effects since he was baby! I’m also at home with him so he’s not in early head start or daycare so why isn’t he saying some actual words yet??!! 😩 😢
My 10 month old just starting doing the mum mum mum mum when crying and wanting to he picked up. I'm wistfully hoping he really means "mama" and it's not just coincidence.

@RahulKumar-kn6it my son is now 22 months old. He does talk a bit but he is still behind. The pediatrician said that he isn't concerned but that he wants to see more speech. I have a feeling he will need some kind of extra help. He is very very active and hyper but has a hard time slowing down and expressing himself. Tantrums have been a concern lately too 😫

My son can say things like mama, dada, kitty, ABC, 123, efg, i got you, I did it, no, yeah and a few others but he only says them when he wants and isn't using words like "more" or "drink" nor will be wave hi or bye. He is just not fully picking up on using his words 😭
My toddler is 2 years old, he do recite 1-10 and A-z but wouldn't say words like (mummy, daddy, come, go,no, fine, water) etc but fluently says numbers and alphabet.
I've tried to communicate these words with him numerously even give him videos to watch that help toddlers say word, but he wouldn't say them but loves watching the videos, rather he'll be speaking babish that sounds more like Chinese language( it troubles me)
Also, he doesn't like eating solid foods. Most times he'll run round the house, really dramatic and cry whenever we offer him solid food. Sometimes i and his dad will hold him and force him to eat( at times when the first spoon enters his mouth, he'll continue eating but not much) what he loves eating is just cereal, Custard and bread, biscuits, tea.
It's been really though for us as parents.
I'm struggling as a mom😢 please mothers here, if there's an advice you can give or any recommendation I'd appreciate...please

kids respond very well to counterintuitive events. instead of asking them, or being boring about it, you can grab the toy and yourself say 'i want this dinosaur. its my dinosaur' and that will grab their attention and they will have an urge to engage with you, and say 'no thats my dinosaur.' only drawback is then you might have a kid who is a little joker and starts playing the same game on you with your keys or cell phone.
Why is it so important to read constantly to them then? You get pressured to read to your baby constantly to help their language develop but you just said it doesn’t make it develop any faster at all. Can’t stand everyone saying different shit. Petition that every parent video giving advice needs to have their academic sources in the notes.
Hi! Just wanted to clarify that I didn't actually say this in the video. Reading to your little one is great for language development, particularly when you pair this with pointing to the pictures to highlight what the words mean. When I talked about talking less, I am simply highlighting the importance of pausing when you have a conversation with your little one. When you pause you give them the opportunity to communicate back to you by babbling, using gestures or talking. It's this back and forth interaction which is important for language development.
