DIY AC Coupling Adapter Hantek 1008C

  • One of the problems with the Hantek 1008c and other cheap Chinese scopes is that they don't have AC coupling. This can make it difficult to properly analyze certain waveforms, such as alternator ac ripple ( both voltage and amperage ), relative compression tests, and intake manifold pressure waves, etc... However, it is very simple to make your own DIY ac coupling adapter at home with only a few dollars of parts from a hobby electronics store.

      @@sailorbob74133 I can not get the Hantek to display any CAN data, nor will it display an alternator ripple. I have returned the scope and will try a replacement later.

    Hi, may be the best upgrade for your solution is to connect simple small ON/OFF switch in parallel to capacitor and mount it on the box outside? This way you''ll get a real AC/DC probe.

    I am picking up a Hantek 6022BE USB Oscilloscope and just realized it does not have AC coupling, will connecting AC damage it and either way will I be able to properly see mains AC harmonics with the scope via spectral view/FFT?

    • @sailorbob74133
      @sailorbob74133  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'll need to build an adapter like in my video. Regarding the fft I don't know.

    • @sailorbob74133
      @sailorbob74133  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure if that would work. The capacitor already blocks all the DC current so there is no need for an attenuator in this situation.

    Hi, thank you for posting this video. It now makes the 1008 even more attractive.
    I'm trying to figure out a way of doing a Relative Compression Test by connecting the scope lead straight to the battery posts, but i want the waveform to be a single crisp line, by filtering out all the noise.
    Do you think this method will work, or is there a better way to make a filter?
    Many thanks for any help that you may be able to offer me on this subject. Joe

    • @sailorbob74133

      Actually, I would look into the Pico 2204a, which is about $140. It's only two channels, but practically speaking you can't use more than two channels on the hantek most of the time anyways.

    • @JoeNunes345
      @JoeNunes345 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much for the prompt reply and advice on the pico 2204.
      But is there a way that you know of to filter out the noise when connected straight to the battery posts?
      Many thanks, Joe

    • @sailorbob74133
      @sailorbob74133  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      well the sample rate on the hantek scope isn't that high so I don't think you'll see that much noise hooks direct into the battery post I think just try it and see what you get but I think it should probably be okay. Ideally you would want a 1 kilohertz low pass filter which the Piko can do in software I'm not sure how to do something like that for the hantek however, but like I said you may not need it for the ham Tech because the sampling rate isn't that high anyways.

      Use um capacitor de 100nF/1kV em serie com o sinal que você quer medir, assim a componente DC será filtrada. Comprei um Hantek e me decepcionei por conta de não haver essa possibilidade por software. Mas a gente tem que se virar com o que tem. Abraços, amigo.

    Best solution I''ve found with Hantek 1008C is to use it as a door stop even in 2021 they cannot get the secondary ignition clamp to lock up the PC etc. so many problems... save yourself the headache and buy Pico.... yes save up but get things that work not CCP China pretend Waste of time Junk! (Oh yes I did try the default device in device manager and the alternative USB driver) all no go... maybe it needs 20:1 attenuator.
