Worth noting that a lean-to must be shared with other groups, up to a maximum capacity of typically 8 people. My group has had a lean-to to ourselves a few times, but nearly as often we have shared it with others.
you are correct Tom. When I was writing the script I hemmed and hawed about adding that point... among many other things. In an effort to not get to deep into the weeds with rules (as there are many)... it didn't make the cut. But it is the one thing in hindsight I should've noted. Thanks for reaching out.
Thanks Tom. On my canoe trips I've come across quite a few doozies (illegal fires at put-ins, garbage in fire pits, live trees cut down, etc)... so I am hoping this video helps educate people... and helps everyone have a better experience.
Personally I have been canoe, boat and backpack camping up there for many years. However this is great advice for all the new Covid crowds that have recently come on the scene in the past couple years.
Thank you. It is certainly my hope that this video not only helps keep people safe ..... but also keep our Adirondack environment protected too. Happy New Year to you.
Thank you for making this PSA! Seems like this should be shown in all of the Canadian provincial parks from the canoe camping videos i watch from there. The TH-camrs who film themselves are obviously up on their LNT always but a lotta times they get to campsites that were used by non LNTers. Great stuff here! Are you still making vids? Take care.
Hey thanks. I figured if my videos were encouraging people to get out in nature it was only right that I help them do it responsibly... and safely. There are so many great Canadian canoeing youtube channels. Their rules, especially when it comes to firewood, is much more liberal than here in the Adirondacks... a big difference is being able to use standing dead vs our fallen dead only. As for making videos... this year turned out busier than expected as Barb and I finally found land we loved took ownership this Spring. So for the most part we had to use most of our free time to work on our property... which includes rehabbing an old barn. The good news is the property borders the Saint Regis Canoe area. So while this year was a bit of a sacrifice... next paddling season should be very exciting. I appreciate you following along. Happy Thanksgiving.
@@kathyfortner_kitchen Lol. Well... my all-time favorite... and it is not even close... is Reeses Peanut Butter cups. Sadly they wouldn't have worked very well for my video.
Hey I enjoy your channel. I have asked you this question before, the dry bag that you have used is one which you had said was around forever. I don’t remember the make or model but I am more interested in a dry bag vs a dry pack. Let me know what you think. Thanks again.
Thank you. The dry pack is the 110L NRS Bill's Bag. For dry bags (or dry sacks as some say)... I just go with what I can find on sale between proven brands "Sea to Summit", "NRS", and "Osprey". Most of mine are Sea to Summit though.
Awesome Matt. You'll have to book a trip down south to get in some winter paddling. We love canoeing the springs down in Florida. Thanks for watching and commenting.
The Florida Hot Springs are amazing. 2 I can highly recommend include the Emerald Cut of Rock Springs Run in Opopka, Florida.... and Silver Springs State park. I haven't been to Rainbow Springs but that is high on my list of places to paddle in the future. I've also paddled the St Johns River out of Blue Springs State Park if you want slightly bigger water. Keep me posted on what you end up paddling. @@MrCabinboy11
also paddling the mangrove trail of Caladesi Island near Clearwater Beach is a lot of fun. Almost always see dolphins. Just watch the currents in Hurricane Pass.. they can thorw you around pretty good.@@MrCabinboy11
Thanks Craig. Work is well under way. They have signage up directing paddlers to the access... via Horseshoe Lake outlet. A tough route most wouldn't enjoy. They also turned the 2 campsites on Horseshoe Lake into small parking lots for paddlers. Here is the DEC press release with more details: www.dec.ny.gov/press/126617.html

Hey Chance. Thanks for watching. The bug question just missed the cut... that and my favorite fishing holes :-) The bugs have been particularly nasty this year with all the rain and humidity. I tell people that have a tough time dealing with bugs to canoe camp between end of August to early October when it is relatively bug free.

These are all great tips, thanks for sharing! You had me laughing good with the candy bars 😂

Awesome stuff Butch, very informative! Disturbing use of my beloved snickers though
haha. FYI... I actually rinsed the Snicker bars off and ate them. Waste not want not as mom used to say.
Very informative video. Thanks for sharing this video with us. Greetings from India 🇮🇳

Great video! However, I’ve been informed that Baby Ruth is the candy bar of choice for that analogy (per Caddyshack). 🤷♀️
hahaha. I almost went with the Baby Ruth... but I knew I would be eating the candy bar after the shot and Snickers are my favorite 🙂

I took note of that... and will certainly back off that kind of transition in the future. Thanks for watching and for giving me feedback.
Gotta stop with the strobe effect...its not necessary and certainly overdone
I was trying something new and haven't used it since.... so I agree with you.
The "effects" are annoying. I can't watch this video.
