Great comparison review. LOL at the corpse in the boot comment. Was thinking of getting a Kadjar but will now have a good look at the CX-5. Thanks also for doing the review in English.
Hi there. I promised to come back with my views on the Renault Kadjar when I'd had it for a while, so here goes. Firstly the model I have is a top range Signature Nav but with the smaller 1.5 diesel engine. Being used to the 2.2 CX-5 I thought I would miss the extra power, but to be honest, I've barely noticed it apart from on hills. Some reports have said the 1.5 unit is noisy but I've found it no noisier than my CX-5 was. Handling is OK, but there's a bit more roll on the Kadjar and this is probably down to the softer suspension set-up it has. The panoramic sunroof is good for vision but it's not what I would call a real sunroof, as it cannot be opened! I am having trouble setting up texts and emails on the display and Renault have told me it's an issue with some iPhones! I'm not so sure about that one. The amount of variations you can make to the colour and style of the dashboard is quite extensive. The boot space is much smaller than the Mazda. I know these things are measured in litres or cc's, but in practical terms some larger items are a very tight fit compared to the CX-5. My wife's mobility scooter fits easily in the Mazda with room for shopping but just - and I mean just fits in the Kadjar. The lane control and blind spot warning mirrors are a handy feature. Fuel consumption is nowhere near the figure of around 71 mpg given by Renault. My boot is often filled with tools and other bits so this all adds weight, but I am getting around 56 - 57 mpg. Better than the Mazda, where I got around 52 mpg and better than another review I saw which claimed just 49 mpg. I really loved my Mazda CX-5, which I had for three years and 120,000 miles, but the Kadjar is proving to be a decent car and my only real complaint is the smaller boot area. I will hit around 40,000 miles each year, so maybe some other issues will come up but so far, so good.
Hi Waleed, I won't lie to you, I prefer my old Mazda CX-5 in many ways. This is not to say the Kadjar is bad, just that I found the Mazda better. It handles better, steers better, the gearbox is better. The Mazda also has a much bigger boot and far better acceleration. The Kadjar is more economical and has more features, as I have a Signature Nav. Having said that some of the features don't work all the time and in four months Renault have still not fixed them all, despite giving me a firmware update. It's still a good car though, but I was comparing it to the Mazda, which is an exceptional vehicle.
I actually liked the Kadjar the most. While the Mazda does seem to have a higher quality interior, it is much less functional in the boot and has less space. I would have to see how both drove but I got a better feeling for the Renault in this review than for the Mazda (maybe my expectations for the Mazda were higher as well).
This is completely incorrect! The Mazda has a far, far larger boot and is more practical. The Renault Kadjar is better equipped inside and looks better than the rather drab CX-5 interior. I had the CX-5 and I now have the Kadjar, so I should know.
Great test drives guys. I'm a company car driver and in the UK emissions plays a major part of the choice for tax reasons. I've had a CX-5 for nearly three years and passed 120,000 miles recently. I'm a big Mazda fan having previously had two Mazda 6's but in March 2016 I will become a Kadjar driver. I will be going against your advice though and getting the 1.5 diesel model for the lower emissions of 103 g/km. I've loved having the CX-5 but it is the older trim than the one you tested. I will be getting the Kadjar Signature Nav. I'll give you my opinion when I've driven it for a while.
I do like my Kadjar and from a driver's perspective it's a very nice car with lots of features. However the boot area is far smaller than I was used to with the CX-5. That's not to say it's small; it's still bigger than most saloons out there, but it doesn't compare in size to the Mazda. I'm finding the handling a bit disappointing. There seems to be a lot of roll and that's down to suspension and tyre profile. The Mazda was the bigger car but drove like a small car, gripping the road very well. You know you're in a large car with the Kadjar, which lurches around bends when the boot is loaded. That would be my main gripe.
Thanks Thomas, always enjoy your reviews, attention to detail is first class! You also have a great sense or humour, not often found with the German race! We are looking at SUV's at the moment, so we will look at the CX5, as I respect your view!
As Im a VAG-fan these cars are not interesting for me. But. You guys at Autogefühl Always makes it worth looking. By far the best car critiques that excist online! Regards from Sweden.
Comparing prices and quality I think Kadjar is the best deal. I have tested 1.5 dci and is completely fine to drive and fuel consumption is impressively low. Interior and exterior are for me better designed than at the competitors.
Cannot agree. I had the CX-5 and I now have the Kadjar. I agree about fuel consumption but that's about it. Interior, ride comfort, size and quality are all the Mazda. More worryingly, many features of my Signature Nav Kadjar (top of the range) either don't work or only work when they feel like it. Renault's answer is always the same - firmware upgrade coming soon. I will never get another Renault.
Actually, I gave up of Kadjar and bought Tucson 1.7crdi premium 6 months ago (13 500km so far). Reading your comment it seems that was the right decision. At that time, main reason was incredibly long delivery time for Kadjar (this is small market and they told me I should wait for more than three months). Also, the price for Tucson was lower for nearly 2000 EUR for similar equipment. I'm very satisfied with Tucson and really appreciate lot of comfort inside including back seats and good driving characteristics. Only minus is maybe fuel consumption which is noticeably higher then stated. Overall, I think I have made a good decision.
I am stuck between buying the mazda or the hyundai. I have been reading and watching a lot of reviews and I have to say that this is the best review comparisons I have come across to date. It was just a pity that you could not have carried through onto the cx5. Great reviews.
Same here, CX-5 is my first choice. Although, the Renault's look is growing on me since your last video. Hyundai, like its Japanese competitors, have done an excellent job in making a car that fits many categories but is an expert at none. I like how you mix up the reviewers, with your final review at the end. Gets a different perspective which I think is appreciated by buyers.
+gbriank1 Just Kadjar is like 10k+ euro cheaper, so why even compare? Compare CX5 and Tuscon with Renault Koleos 2016 lol. And Mazda rust issues? You must be dead stupid going for Mazda
+Master I'm in America, where we don't have access to the Kadjar. And as Thomas has pointed out time and again, it is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper to buy a car in America. Why would I be stupid for recommending Mazda? They are one of the most reliable and efficient brands.
Greetings from the UK.Love your videos but for me the Tucson very happy with mine after owning a Renault Kadjar I can say the Tucson is better in every way. Keep up the great work👍
I have the Kadjar Sig Nav 1.2 TCE and very pleased with it.... Quiet, comfortable, safe handling.....Looks fantastic in the metallic red (which I have) but must admit other colours look bland to me. I looked at the CX5 but apart from the practicality, it didn't feel special to me inside. For the price, I wasn't expecting Audi-like quality inside the Kadjar, but pretty good in my opinion and I like the simplicity of the layout. Infotainment and sat nav easy to use as well..... CX5 with equivalent spec was quite a bit more money as well, so although a good car, it swung my opinion even more.
I totally agree with you because I have the same feeling based on watching with other reviewers comment elsewhere. I love to drive this CX5 specially with the upcoming refreshed 2017 model which is much beautiful in and out.
I have 1 problem with the Tucson: the quality of the materials. It's fabric seats feel really bad, the plastics are hard and they feel like they belong to the Kadjar. Or something even cheaper. Due to the bad fabric seats, you need to step up a trim level for leather and seat cooling, so overall it's designed to be more expensive than the base price would suggest.
***** An important factor is that in my country, cars in this price range are considered to be very much premium, because we don't make much money. And also the trim levels are usually different here, so it might not be the same for every country.
Ah, ok. I like the Qashqai better as well (more sober and timeless look, and I don't like the 'cute' details of the Kadjar), but most people seem to pick the Kadjar, that why I asked.
I think we are at a crossroads with compromise. The new X1 for example, it's not as fun to drive as I thought it would be. The older Mazda is my SUV choice too.
DESIGN I agree on the better interior of the Mazda but outside it doesn't catch the eyes and seems boring. Overall the Hyundai Tucson has a more agressive and state-of-the-art design, more practical and ready to go feeling. For other features they look similar although most of the test drive videos on youtube say that Hyundai Tucson is better.
There is no clear winner between the Mazda and the Hyundai. I recently test-drove them (highest trim levels, full options) and they both had their strong and week sides. The Mazda didn't have electric tailgate and its trunk was a bit smaller. On the other hand it had 40:20:40 foldable rear seat (which is BIG for me), LED bending headlights, adaptive cruise control and I could pick a more powerful engine (the petrol). The Huyndai had better suspension and I think a better feeling at the wheel (only slightly though), but had noisier, less powerful top engine, the transmission was worst (both had 6-gear torque-converter autos) and most importantly, it had the ground clearance of a sedan (~3cm less that the Mazda). And after the guy at Huyndai made me a MASSIVE 5000 euro discount to 39,500 euro, it was still substantially more expensive than the Mazda at 35,000 (with a 2000 euro discount and they threw in a set of winter tyres with 17'' wheels). I ended up ordering the Mazda. @Autogefuehl: Test ground clearance on crossovers because apparently there are huge differences.
+gvaley There are 2 more things worth mentioning: 1. The Mazda has a substantially better-sounding audio system. 2. The Hyundai's dashboard looks dreadfully cheep. Only time will tell if the build is sturdy, but as far as first impression is concerned, I cannot reward it more than 5/10.
amazing can't wait for the compact comparison ! do u know "officially" when the G7 will get the facelift ? im waiting for the megane 4 to release, i think my choice will be between G7, Megane4 and maybe the Seat Leon! i already saw spy pictures "in real life condition" (outside) of the megane 4 and so far it look great :) can't wait to see if she can be a real rival for the G7! do u think i should consider the 308 too?
+1111italia1111 Didnt hear of G7 facelift yet. Actually all of the recent comparisons are online, so just search for ' autogefuehl carmodel ' and replace carmodel with your desired car, probably we ll have it :)
So the Kadjar is the best to look at, the Mazda is the best to drive and the Hyundai is quite good at everything, but doesn't excel at anything...quite though to chose between these 3
hi, excellent in deep review, we love your presentations her in Norway. I do have one comment that I would like to bring to your attention. The camera. Although having very stable hands when reviewing the cabin it should be done from the back seat. The interview with you while driving is terrible, half a face, head cutting etc etc. why not use go-pro cameras mounted on the front window and sides then add footage of the parts you talk about and edit it on a PC later?. choosing as they call it "one take" reduce the quality of this video which could only describe as professional otherwise. I am sure you stop the camera and take several takes of the presentation and edit it out latter, well the same should we done with the car footage.
Overall I agree that CX5 offers the highest quality and best driving experience among the three cars. However, before purchasing, I've tested the CX5 and the Mazda 6 for a week / 1500 km each and I have to admit that the CX5 made me disappointed. However the engine has almost no noise (just like in the Mazda6), the rolling wheels are to loud and harsh, you always hear the wind noise and it's disturbing at highway speed (compared to a Ford S-Max Mazda has 5 years handicap). The mostly disturbing thing is the suspension, which is so firm, so stiff, that combined with these less cushioned seats on bumpy road you feel each small whole on your spine. And small things, like always shaking in- and outside mirrors (the dealer said they always implement a sponge in the mirror house and the same for the hood, which is waiving at high speed like the ocean around Hawaii). Not to mention you always hear the sound of the relay from the trunk when you use the direction indicator or you step on the brake to use the gearbox, or you have to push the button on the front door, step back to the back door open it for your children, so it's not a real keyless go, no coming home function, so you in dark garage you always poke for the door opening button ( Renault's keyless function is much better), and there is no button on the back doors. It is a good, but very unbalanced car, with superior engine and transmission, overall high quality materials, nice Kodo shape (RAV4? ha-ha), but with unacceptable suspension and some disturbing things (just heated, no cooled seats etc.)
this car is much better than he makes out , yes the 1.6 is a little noisy and it really is NOT short on power . the 1.5 is very smooth and much quieter dont let this unfair review put you of what is a really good car . get yourself a test drive and see who is right .
I got the 2016 1.6 Turbo Limited the worst vehicle I have ever had. we are having a continues AC issues and the Hyundai geniuses are unable to fix it Hyundai sucks
Audi stolen drovings of that gril from hyundai many years ago..now hyndai decided to claim what is theirs..and copy pasted it to a new tucson..with small changes..for example replacing audi rings with hyundai logo via paint..take that audi..i revialed ur secret!
You smoke too much if you think that it is fact :D Do you know who is Peter Schreyer (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Schreyer)? Read about his career and stop typing this bullshit.
U love audi so much...thats why u so blindly belive in whats mister Peter Schreyer has to say on that link..wich i didnt opened..cuz i prezented u the true story..about ur beloved cheating audi..all thouse audies are cheep copyes of hyundai tucson.. :D..u cant tuch me with ur blind belives im to op for that.. :D
For price, I think yes it is. Tucson is more expensive, and if you have more budget and can aspire for a better car, CX-5 is better option than Hyundai. Worst for the Tucson is the engines range, a poor 1.6 petrol NA, and a very expensive turbo. A not very refined diesel engines, and an interior with lot of rigid plastics and too much conventional, it seems designed in 2006. I think Renault has better engines in an afordable range of price, a better interior design and materials and better price. Mazda CX5 is the best of all, but is always more expensive, it hasn't a low range engines as Kadjar or Tucson, cause is only suitable for a high budget.
Totally wrong! The Renault has more in common with the Qashqai, including the same engine, gearbox and chassis. Having owned both a CX-5 and now a Kadjar I can say there is a world of difference between them.
1.6 diesel is faster on the 2 wheel drive , 4 wheel drive its 120kg heavier which ampers acceleration , on a dry road or above 20 MPH the benefits of AWD completely desapears in 99% of cases
I had a really bad experience with Hyundai ix35. Automatic gearbox jammed when I was on the road with one-way traffic and I could not turn on a reverse gear! Don't buy HYUNDAI'S!!! It's a peace of shit! Not a car!

I purchased the 2016 Mazda CX5 in December with fabric seats, thanks to you....I LOVE IT.
I got the GS (Touring) 2.5 gas engine.

thanks for the feedback !
Tucson looks much more better than the others, the Design is realy elegant. I love Tucson 👍👍
some car makers show an extra detail in using dual channel weatherstripping around the door to help give it that solid bank vault sound when closing
I have 1 problem with the Tucson: the quality of the materials. It's fabric seats feel really bad, the plastics are hard and they feel like they belong to the Kadjar. Or something even cheaper. And also the trim levels are usually different here, so it might not be the same for every country.
I would pick the Mazda CX5 also. I think the real McCoy is the Tiguan 2016.
I'd go for Tucson, but the price was 10k more than qashqai and even 3k more than Mazda. Daytime robbery. Opted for Qashqai Tekna.
+Roman ‘Rams’ Gubanov So why not the Kadjar? Just wondering... Or wasn't it available at the time?
*****
It's cultural. Would not want all the mockery related to "Renault leasing" translated to russian. And Qashqai is better anyway.
Ah, ok. I like the Qashqai better as well (more sober and timeless look, and I don't like the 'cute' details of the Kadjar), but most people seem to pick the Kadjar, that why I asked.
Hey there, Any feedback from your qashqai please?
At 4.16 you can see the rubber seal at the bottom of the door to prevent dust coming up
+Hundra14Kronor ahhh interesting now i got it thanks :)
I think we are at a crossroads with compromise. The new X1 for example, it's not as fun to drive as I thought it would be. The older Mazda is my SUV choice too.
Wird es von dem Kadjar 2019 facelift noch ein Review Video geben? MfG
Thanks for the video. The camera used in the intro scene is making my eyes fuzzy. Please use a better one next time :)
Would the 2.0 165 petrol engine be enough?
The Mazda CX-5 is the oldest but still unbeatable, which shows real superiority of Mazda engineering.
mazda the only japanees car builder that get it keep up the good work and a GREAT review
+paetje18 Lexus???

I agree on the better interior of the Mazda but outside it doesn't catch the eyes and seems boring. Overall the Hyundai Tucson has a more agressive and state-of-the-art design, more practical and ready to go feeling.

+gvaley thanks for the interesting feedback !

1. The Mazda has a substantially better-sounding audio system.

2.5L CX-5 available in Singapore! But lets not discuss about car prices here (:
which of the three is the safest and offers the best safety features? I am torn between the tucson and the cx 5.
all three did well on the euro ncap, cx5 slightly better. Also check out our newer Hyundai Tucson review: th-cam.com/video/bwbb6dfxBoY/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the quick reply. But all in all would you still go for the cx 5?
+Marc Allen both are good choice, u pay the same?
***** Yep, more or less the same price. I'm looking for the one that has better handling and ease of use.
At same price, go for the CX-5.
which one has the lower cabin noise?

+1111italia1111 Didnt hear of G7 facelift yet. Actually all of the recent comparisons are online, so just search for ' autogefuehl carmodel ' and replace carmodel with your desired car, probably we ll have it :)
So the Kadjar is the best to look at, the Mazda is the best to drive and the Hyundai is quite good at everything, but doesn't excel at anything...quite though to chose between these 3
how many more budget does mazda need to install the rear air vents?? huh??! .-. this is the major downside no airvents !
hi, excellent in deep review, we love your presentations her in Norway.
Has anyone tried out the Kia Sportage yet ?

+hamdi youssef we ll have another Hyundai Tucson in depth review in spring. All-new tiguan will be coming up already next month!
+Attila Pákolicz thanks for the interesting feedback! We re having Mazda6 vs Passast vs Superb in the next Autogefühl ÜBER-Test next week :)
100% MAZDA is the best ot these SUV's.
this car is much better than he makes out , yes the 1.6 is a little noisy and it really is NOT short on power . the 1.5 is very smooth and much quieter dont let this unfair review put you of what is a really good car . get yourself a test drive and see who is right .
+william moore Sorry what car you mean ? And I dont think our reviews are unfair, we are just stating our experiences
the kadjar but thats only your opinion and on this occasion i have to disagree
+william moore sure no problem, we re here to exchange experience
Great job...
thanks keep joining us!
I got the 2016 1.6 Turbo Limited
the worst vehicle I have ever had. we are having a continues AC issues and the Hyundai geniuses are unable to fix it
Hyundai sucks
No 2.5 petrol in UK :(
I vote for kadjar
All that Hyundai can is to copy Audi's grill :D
Audi stolen drovings of that gril from hyundai many years ago..now hyndai decided to claim what is theirs..and copy pasted it to a new tucson..with small changes..for example replacing audi rings with hyundai logo via paint..take that audi..i revialed ur secret!
Don't smoke so much!
Smoking dont have anithing to do with a fact...oooooo!!!OOOOOO!!!!
Kadjar is the best ;D
no, its not...
Volumex Hmmm yes...
I'm living in Japan
So I can't buy Hyundai and Kadjar...
I think Kadjar is really nice SUV.
The french car is cheap it is exactly the same design stolen from the Mazda CX7 and CX9 in north America, that are no more produced,
Totally wrong! The Renault has more in common with the Qashqai, including the same engine, gearbox and chassis. Having owned both a CX-5 and now a Kadjar I can say there is a world of difference between them.
And which would you reccomend then?
Having owned both the CX-5 and now the Kadjar, I would opt for the CX-5 every time.
BMW X1 review?
+David Ramírez Looking forward to that as well. I ll try to get one for next year
1.6 diesel is faster on the 2 wheel drive , 4 wheel drive its 120kg heavier which ampers acceleration , on a dry road or above 20 MPH the benefits of AWD completely desapears in 99% of cases
cx5 , no doubt
still prefer a X1 or a GLA
the automatic gear box in french cars is shit, I wouldn't advice anyone to get it
Mazda's are poor man's BMW, I've always believed in that.
+TheMichaelRN haha > Troll
A poor man's BMW? I don't have the money for a low trim CX-5 in my wallet, do you?
I had a really bad experience with Hyundai ix35. Automatic gearbox jammed when I was on the road with one-way traffic and I could not turn on a reverse gear! Don't buy HYUNDAI'S!!! It's a peace of shit! Not a car!
Have you checked your transmission fluid?!
+tambol chipak Very funny! Shure! Car passed OFFICIAL SERVICE on 15000 km!
