    In terms of tech, you forgot to mention the CX-5 also has a heads up display, that shows your speed and directions from the sat nav.

    In Australia, the packaging is quite different. The Tucson reviewed in this video is like the second-lowest spec available here, not the highest spec as the local packaging in South Africa. AWD, Power Tailgate, and other features absent from the Tucson in this video are available in the two higher spec levels out of the 4 in Australia. They are labeled Active, Active-X, Elite and Highlander from base to top spec.
    The Tucson out-performs the CX-5 in all equipment levels and handling (by a lot due to Australian suspension tuning division here), refinement is noticeably higher on the road, and it's a little cheaper. The personal preference of buyers toward brand and design/styling may appeal more to Mazda owners in our market, but value, quality, refinement, equipment and handling all fall in the Tucson's favour over here, hence why Tucson is outselling CX-5 by an increasing margin each month... This is all relative - I closely reviewed/drove/shopped these two against each over for a month before purchasing the Tucson.
    Oh, and my other car is a Mazda ;) I still love them. Hope this helps any Aussie buyers!

      Hey mate! Fellow Aussie here.
      How is your opinion aging on this after 5 years? I’m currently looking at buying a second hand SUV (2015-2018) and am guilty of leaning heavily towards Mazda. Seems like I could get a lot more value for money with a Tucson though..
      What do you think?

    • @GrantHawkey
      @GrantHawkey ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Michael-gq9cd Sorry I’m not much help on this now. We sold the Tucson because we wanted to tow and go off-road. We have been in a Pajero Sport and find it’s awesome. 👍
      For the time we had the Tucson we couldn’t really fault it. No issues with it. Dealer servicing wasn’t a great customer experience each time, but that’s not a fault of the car. During the peak Covid demand cycle, we sold it with just over 60,000kms on the clock for about $6k less than we paid for it new 4 years earlier. It was a 2017 Active-X. 🙂

    The coolest thing about the Top Trim CX-5 is the Head Up Display. Although, the Tucson does have a panoramic sunroof/moonroof, but if you've ever used/seen a HUD...it's really nice and convenient. Not to mention...it keeps your eyes on the road

  • @AlexFerrero12
    @AlexFerrero12 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    ahhh guys i just have to point out some facts here. 1st of all i own both these cars since i have a car rental business. 2nd my tucson has electric tail gate and it is automatic so BS is what the dude said , it has massaging seats, HUD , ambiente lights , 7 speed dual clutch transmission , heated and cooled steering wheel , automatic wipers and lights control , lane keep assist , blind spot sensors , emergency brake and e-hand break and auto parking and it is a lot more comfortable ( maybe the dude is talking about 2015 model) and on the mazda , the quality of interior matterials is conciderably better , cabin is a bit more quiet , seats are softer and wider and the a/c is colder. oh in my opinion the tuson rides better since its lighter. btw the tucson is awd.

    must be the region and country, but damn this feels like a top tear cx-5 vs a mid tear Tucson. This Tucson in the video has no AWD, no autolift gate, no inlane keep assist, 19 inch stock rims, shark pin antenna???? My tucson has ALL OF THAT, and bending headlights, blind side detection, auto pedestrian breaking, trajectory when in reverse and parking.

      I'm definitely not a car guy, but I'd do my homework before doing a review. The Tucson - at top trim level like the shown Mazda - features every bit of technology available today. Add to that the AWD which really puts the hammer down in terms of torque, and a price far more competitive than the Mazdas, and you're looking at the best SUV in its class. It did beat every test done in Germany, always putting the CX-5 in second place. Rightfully so.

    In the UK the Tucson top of the range called Premium SE has sooo much more standard tech than the CX5. Including self parking, lane keep assist and a power rear door. Don't know why the SA one is less specc'd.

      Here in Aussie Mazda got a good reviews but the Tucson is much better in terms of value for money. That’s why there’s a lot of them on the road right now. And it’s a good looking car. It’s ride quality is perfect and tuned in Aussie conditions. We got 5yrs unlimited warranty etc. Mazda maybe better in reviews but the Tucson is dominating the road.

    The Mazda is the better car but lets not forget we are comparing it with the Tucson which was launched 2 and half years ago and absolutely belted the CX 5 of that era, its all relative and in a few years when the new Tucson comes out the roles will be reversed again but lol about people saying Hyundai loosing styling edge, when this Tucson was released in 2015 it was so far better looking than the competitors it was a gag! Mazda now does look very smart .

The shock absorbers were replaced, the springs, the door handles are broke, the muffler has a hole under so it’s a bit noisy, interior materials are now in bad condition it react to sweat, to many to mention. andytnr I had a 2013 Mazda 3 and it has an option for if you want to get it rust proof. I had it for 4 years and not once did it rust and now I own the 2017 CX5 and it’s hands down amazing. I wouldn’t really speak on a car that you don’t own. Remember, not all people take care of their car

    Great cars but for that money I would rather buy a demo Toyota Fortuner or Ford Everest that is less than 1 year old and has spent most of its life in a showroom

    I wish the Mazda had a similar 19" wheel design as the 2016 Akera... I'm not too keen on the look of these wheels and btw the Tucson top tier model here in Oz has quite a bit more features than the SA version (sad).

      ya they forgot it b/c hyundai is the faster car. this review was made to make the cx-5 great and the tucson inferior. the review speaks for itself as they use a top trim cx-5 vs a entry level tucson.

    I drive a Kia, which is, in a nutshell, a Hyundai. What I have noticed is that, although the Kia/Hyundai group has come a long way, they just feel a bit last generation compared to some rivals. Small things like automatic windscreen wipers are always left out. It's 2017 Hyundai! Wakeup!

    • @dominoxzz
      @dominoxzz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Euhm the automatic windscreen wipers come as standard on the base model of the Tucson which was released in 2015. I'm afraid, that it's your information that's feels a bit outdated...

    I have a base Tucson that's 2 year old, and it has an electronic tailgate. But I'm in Australia. Perhaps your country is different in terms of the models you get. The cx-5 is too small and impractical . The fact that it doesn't have a full size spare wheel, kills it for me. My experience is that latte sipping, chardonnay swilling, trendies buy and drive the cx_5 , around the suburbs. You hardly see them in the real world of SUV driving, in the country, dirt roads, beach, etc. I wouldn't hazard those places with a space saver wheel.

    I think in the real world the Mazda will actually perform well and give good fuel economy. Hyundai overrates their engines because they always seem to be underpowered for the stated kw and nm and always use a lot more fuel. Their engineering isn't up there with the rest yet.

    Such strange spec differences - a top spec Tucson in South Africa is still front-wheel drive? And no electric tailgate, LED headlights, auto wipers, nor bigger wheels? All of those are available overseas. CX-5 absolutely smashes the Tucson.

Naaa while your stuck on the side of the road I will be passing you with flying colours 👍🏻
