  • Named after the band of Native American Indians, Chiricahua National Monument in southeastern Arizona may not have made your shortlist of must-visit National Park Units. But after spending several days exploring it in December, we think this is a hidden gem of the National Park System.
In this video, we take the hiker's shuttle to Echo Canyon and then hike back down to the Visitor Center. The Big Loop hike consisted of the following trails: Echo Canyon Trail, Hailstone Trail, Mushroom Rock Trail, Inspiration Point, Big Balanced Rock Trail, Heart of Rocks Loop, Sarah Demming Trail, Lower Rhyolite Canyon Trail.
In total it was 9.88 miles (15.9km) with 1286 ft (392 meters) of elevation gain.
We stayed at the Bonita Canyon Campground inside the Chiricahua National Monument.
We also find our first Inspiratoin Point on this journey and decide to count them all.
We are Matt & Diana and we live in an RV full time and are on a journey to visit all 400+ National Park Units. To follow us along subscribe to our channel here www.youtube.co...
Chiricahua National Monument was unit #7 out of #419 on our journey to visit them all. See a detailed write up here: www.adventurou...

Good job and nice video. I am planning to get down there and maybe hike some of the easier trails.

I've just found your site and after watching, subscribed. I have a lifelong passion for the South West. I've been travelling throughout since 1992. I hiked and wild camped(tent not RV) the Chiricahua Mountains via Mexico, Douglas and Portal in 1994. My last trip through Utah and Arizona was September 2012. I'm now an oldtimer Englishman from Shropshire who now relies on videos like yours to remind me what I'm missing. Enjoy your travels and stay safe.

I would also like to add the following; no one mentions anything 're history of these areas. The Chiricahua Mountains were the stronghold of Geronimo's Apaches. Similarlly the Dragoon mountains, twenty miles due West were the stronghold of Cochise and his band of Apaches. I have spent time with both Apaches, Navajos, Hopi and Acoma communities. They need a mention.

Matt and Diana, you both are very likable and I truly enjoy your style and your videos! Beautiful scenery, thoughtful commentary and observation are enjoyed by us who cannot make it to those beautiful National Parks at this time. Please do not be discouraged by "arm chair quarterbacks" and the drivel they write. I and others sincerely thank you for inviting us in your adventures across this beautiful country. Godspeed in all your your travels!

lol!! I was just thinking how many 'Inspiration Points' are in the Park System ... about 30 sec before you talked about it! I know there's one in Grand Teton NP ... countless others I'm sure. Very nice video -- thanks for sharing!

When I notice someone sharing things about inspiration, I always reach out and say hello. Just how long have you been designing videos?

Thanks for stopping by! The first video we published was in October of last year - so more than 6 months ago! It is definitely a very steep learning curve, but eventually, you start getting a hang of it.
