I guess you didn't want to talk about the one everyone knows, but I'd still pick a r1200/1250gs over any of these. It's not the best on paper, but from my research, it's still faster and more practical for off-road than the Pan-Am. Also, I'm surprised the KLR650 didn't come up as a budget option. It may be sold more as a dual-sport but they're easily an entry adv with some of the add-ons you can get, especially now that ABS is available on it.
Also, why the XC?! The XE kills the XC off road. I’m with you. I’d take the GS. Best warranty, proven drivetrain. To the point where I’m buying a GSA. Shaft drive - not checking chain tension on a long trip, and the GSA easily has the best fuel range.

FYI, The second screen on the Africa Twin is because its the only bike you can connect CarPlay/AndroidAuto to and per regulations you need to see the speed anytime. Thats why i bought one btw, its the best cruising feature for long travels. No need for a nav.
Mistake #1 social media talking heads make is to present themselves as authoritative figures when in fact they are clueless. ADV segment is not your forte. If your viewers invest the time to watch your channel, the least you owe them is to offer meticulously researched information and what you are genuinely knowledgeable about.
I drive motorcycles for 39 years, I'm a bike mechanic, and have a lot of different bikes thru the years, and the best by far is the 1250 BMW GS and GSA
Yes it’s detuned 120 hp and it’s sporting a 320mm monoblock Brembo setup. Bike has like 30 degrees of lean angle so I doubt you could go crazy enough to overheat the thing. Front brake setup is probably more than enough.
Dismissed the BMW GS 👎Didn't even mention the Triumph Tiger 👎Your credibility on this subject is wearing thin when you put a Harley on a pedestal , especially when it is so new that real world community miles haven't proven anything yet because who has one ?
Honda added the LCD below the TFT because it has Android Auto and CarPlay compatibility that takes up the entire TFT. That way you can still see speed and gear position.
I own a 2019 CRF1000 ATAS and just recently had a chance to test drive a 1250 GSA. Definitely switching for the BMW. The GS is just much better, much more refined bike overall.
I do some serious weekly mileage on my CRF300 Rally and it is much more refined than you might think. 75mph all day and comfortable with it. 83.2 mpg at that speed and brilliant in City traffic too. Most remote dirt roads will not allow you to put the power down on the bigger bikes. Remember, those horrendous adventure roads are the daily commute for locals and tackled on Honda step-throughs lol.
No matter how good any Harley might be rated - I think I'll never be able to fall in love with their design (or maybe I still haven't reached the right age to see "it"?)
I think the triumph 1200 XE is more ADV than the XC. XE Better ground clearance, front Suspension 47 mm and 250 mm travel XC Front suspension 45 mm and 200 mm travel
Nailed it man.. couldn't agree more with everything you said. A question: why do we consider CRF250/300 rally an adventure bike and not a dual sport? Is it cause it has a nav tower? How come there is not real official definiton/distintion between advs and dual sports? My next video will be precisely about that but i dont really found a final answer
Please also mention the lack of sub 136kg adventurized dual sports with 15 liters in the tank offered by any of the manufacturers. Huge hole in the market here for something with 40hp at the rear wheel. Lots of performance dual sports hit this weight goal but none come with 15 liter tanks, comfortable seats or long maintenance intervals. The aftermarket is making a lot of money selling seats and tanks for 450L's and EXC's.
@@mikeisland7382 although i agree with you (a lot), i'd say the world lacks sub 140kg adventurized small dual sports (totally gonna use that name in the future) but also sub 170kg adventurized medium/big dual sports. The KTM690/701 is all we got and they dont really make the cut (or at least they dont give us a big enough choice). Although i love a good old "DRZ" kind of bike, my heart usually goes to the "600" category... My dream would be a propper sub 170kg twin cilinder (basically a cb500x engine on a crf250 frame :D)
My first bike was a Honda Crf250l Rally that I bought new in 2018. I loved it and I could almost go any where my dirt bike bros could. Im glad you mentioned it! Its a great bike on and off road. I sold it this year and bought my dream bike a 2021 Honda CB650R.
I was impressed with the dirt glide. It has some nice little features that surprised me. I have a demo scheduled Wednesday. I'm not even a Harley guy but it looked pretty cool to me.
@@rubadubdubb I dunno, the self adjusting valves are a plus. This thing is a lot of fun to ride. That's all I care about tbh. I did a demo today and really enjoyed it.
I'm impressed with the features but after owning a couple Harley's I want to see if the bike is reliable before I consider buying one. I've had multiple GS and GSA's and a XR650 that have been really solid but the Harley's and KTM's (MX mostly)... Not so much.
Great list Yam and as an fellow ADV bro i think you nailed it. I too am hoping HD succeeds with the dirt glide. If it were on the market last year i probably would own one and not the Africa Twin I own today. Its the bike i have been waiting for an American manufacturer to build and its finally here.... As a former Multistrada owner i can confirm you do NOT want to drop it, not unless you like paying insurance deductibles and have your rates go up, since the parts are extremely expensive. It is a great road touring bike tho, probably the best on this list.
This video only had two adventure bikes. Ktm 890 and T7. The rest were old man money bikes or a little dual sport that dual sport riders won't even ride. Cb500x, versys 300x, ktm 390 adventure, dr650, klr650, The list goes on and on.
Great video! A good video would be comparing the old school xr650l and dr650. For my money, they’ve got a solid place in this category, esp. for round the world types.
Don’t know what that scrambler is doing on the list but the new Tiger 850 Sport is pretty sweet for those who don’t need all the goodies from the 900. Also never talked about in exciting circles but always a staple (and probably what most people actually need) is the WeeStrom. For those doing 80-99% highway the VStrom 650 is about as practical and comfortable as it gets, for a good price, too. The T7 would be my bet, for the closer to (or aspiring to be) 50/50 off the path rider. The Tiger would be my wild card if one test rode those two and didn’t like it or wanted a lower seat height, etc.
The LCD on the Africa twin is there because when you are using android auto or Apple CarPlay the top screen doesn’t display neither the speed or the gear you are in, while the gear indicator is hardly necessary the speed indicator it is. The more you know 🤣
I was invited to Milwaukee to demo ride the new Harley. At first I was impressed but the rust covered chain and the clunking trans gave something to consider. But I decided to investigate ownership, found one in Lapeer, MI, at Ray C’S. IF YOU HAVE 25000+ then this bike might be for you. Not for me, asking above msrp should be against the law for bikes and cars, greed is never a good thing.
Triumph tiger 900 rally pro. Also Honda put the LCD speedo on the AT because it has Apple car play. So you can use the top screen as a GPS or Waze navigation. Thanks for the video.
@@williamellison3382 My roommate has one. I'm 6'4" 220 lbs and been riding dirt bikes my whole life. I think the RE feels smaller and slower than a 250 dirt bike. As far as the ADV market is each size should get its chance. Since when do you compare a Ninja 300 to an R1 yet you did in this class of bikes. Maybe Spike with his back country roots can do a better job of telling us what steed to choose for what.
Probably one of the "best of bike" lists aimed at real adventure bike consumers that is unavoidably enjoyable & just chock full of value-added information that I could have simultaneously mistaken for entertainment and more than my daily dose of comedy. And it was all free. You should be writing for SNL ...or something similar.
That’s what I tell people. Just go ride it and see for yourself. I’m a floor nurse. I don’t live in poverty but I’m not upper middle class either. I paid a arm and a leg for my gsa and I have zero regrets. I only seem to fall more in love with it. It’s not perfect and I have some gripes about the bike. But in totality it is a wonderful machine! I would buy it again in a heartbeat. I have the 1200 liquid cooled and I’m happy so I can’t imagine having even more power and torque from the 1250. Just more icing on top of icing.

FYI, The second screen on the Africa Twin is because its the only bike you can connect CarPlay/AndroidAuto to and per regulations you need to see the speed anytime. Thats why i bought one btw, its the best cruising feature for long travels. No need for a nav.
I can’t believe the Vstrom didn’t even get a mention!!!! 😱🤯
Mistake #1 social media talking heads make is to present themselves as authoritative figures when in fact they are clueless. ADV segment is not your forte. If your viewers invest the time to watch your channel, the least you owe them is to offer meticulously researched information and what you are genuinely knowledgeable about.
100% Yammie! Genuine article with no artificial flavors!
I drive motorcycles for 39 years, I'm a bike mechanic, and have a lot of different bikes thru the years, and the best by far is the 1250 BMW GS and GSA
This just made me realize that Harley made the new sportster 500+ lbs with 150 hp with 1 front rotor...... this is gonna end well.
Didn't they de-tune it to 120 hp in the sportster?
Yes it’s detuned 120 hp and it’s sporting a 320mm monoblock Brembo setup. Bike has like 30 degrees of lean angle so I doubt you could go crazy enough to overheat the thing. Front brake setup is probably more than enough.
@@darkiee69 they threw a different cam in it to raise the torque.
Dismissed the BMW GS 👎Didn't even mention the Triumph Tiger 👎Your credibility on this subject is wearing thin when you put a Harley on a pedestal , especially when it is so new that real world community miles haven't proven anything yet because who has one ?
Specially when I look at a very cheap and good (less than 20k km and 4000 E) Triunmph Tiger 800 :))
Thanks for watching - be sure to drop a like too
Personally, I'm pretty tired of the GS and Tiger reviews... i like this list.
@@yammienoob Will do sir :D.
Yeah, he’s a sport squid not a enduro guy. Give him a break if he has no clue about gs linage. He’ll figure it out when he rides one.
Hilarious! It’s nice to see my CRF1000l included in the lineup. Its really heavy, tall, and nicely overpowered. I love falling down.
this video has to have the most versions of the word "torque" iv ever heard
Honda added the LCD below the TFT because it has Android Auto and CarPlay compatibility that takes up the entire TFT. That way you can still see speed and gear position.
Surprised to not see the Tiger 900 in there. It's a pretty good bike
Any tiger would have been great to see. My Tiger 800 is great long distance, and will keeps up with my buddies KLR offroad
Pretty good? That's an understatement.
Don’t feel bad, they didn’t even put the Moto Guzzi v85tt on the list either. Pretty pathetic
@HatedJared - Your Tiger 800 just “keeps up” with your buddy’s KLR off-road!? Your 800 Tiger should be leaving your buddy’s KLR in the dust!
Ignoring the GS in this vid is like making a list of the best bands of the 1960s and ignoring the Beetles cause you don't like them.
I own a 2019 CRF1000 ATAS and just recently had a chance to test drive a 1250 GSA. Definitely switching for the BMW. The GS is just much better, much more refined bike overall.
I have the GSA. You will love it. It's my favorite bike of all time, it's magic.
The beauty of the basic Africa Twin (new model) for you lot is that it's around 20k for us down in the Netherlands
Itchy Boots Approved
Desire says Africa Twin, Bank account says Himalayan.
No matter how good any Harley might be rated - I think I'll never be able to fall in love with their design (or maybe I still haven't reached the right age to see "it"?)
Don't worry the Harley isn't any where near as good as the other options in big Adv bikes.
The King dethroned the GS, I'm talking about the KTM 1290 Super Adventure. It will be my next bike, its number one in my book.
Totally agree!
Grew up dirt biking and just grew out of my 500. Time for a Tenere 700
I have to ask, have you ridden a GS?
I don't know if its the alcohol talking but that was brilliant , one of your best , heaps of laughs
I think the triumph 1200 XE is more ADV than the XC.
XE Better ground clearance, front Suspension 47 mm and 250 mm travel
XC Front suspension 45 mm and 200 mm travel
@@OFFroadOFFcourse After riding a modded 450L for a few years now it makes me want to go even lighter. Keep up the great content.
My first bike was a Honda Crf250l Rally that I bought new in 2018. I loved it and I could almost go any where my dirt bike bros could. Im glad you mentioned it! Its a great bike on and off road. I sold it this year and bought my dream bike a 2021 Honda CB650R.
The HD Pan America is the right balance among different ADV bikes and it's "something different". That's gonna be my choice.
I can’t believe I am saying this but your Progressive ad was better and more informative than their versions 🤣
You picked the Harley over the GS and that's when I stopped watching you obv6 know nothing about ADV bikes and shouldn't pretend like you do.
I was impressed with the dirt glide. It has some nice little features that surprised me. I have a demo scheduled Wednesday. I'm not even a Harley guy but it looked pretty cool to me.
But then you saw the price and the competition.
@@rubadubdubb I dunno, the self adjusting valves are a plus. This thing is a lot of fun to ride. That's all I care about tbh. I did a demo today and really enjoyed it.
@@FixinToFish Bought one, rode 1000 miles first week! amazing bike!
@@johnnytrammell9016 Really enjoyed my test ride. I want one!
Putting a Tail bag and bigger windscreen on my ‘21 Z900….am I an ADV Boi Now papa Yam?
You best change out your tires if expecting any gravel.
This video only had two adventure bikes. Ktm 890 and T7. The rest were old man money bikes or a little dual sport that dual sport riders won't even ride.
Cb500x, versys 300x, ktm 390 adventure, dr650, klr650,
The list goes on and on.
The more you know 🤣
I’m late to the show but what’s your opinion on the BMW 310 GS?
Yammie I think you have backwards, the XE is the more dirt focused Scrambler, not the XC.
Agree XE is dirty McDirtface.
Yammie doesn’t take the time to learn what the hell he’s talking about.
When the ad started I was like, “progressive now a sponsor?” Hell yeah dude that’s incredible!!
A multistrada v4 for the road exists, it is called the S 1000XR, basically a reliable 4 cilinder adventure bike with 17 inch wheels
Only think missing from the s1000xr is 200bhp+ otherwise a near perfect offering
When you say; 'Admittedly the HD is more an acquired taste', do you mean it's downright ugly? Because it is....
Think you got your Triumphs the wrong way around, my friend!
Yams, I have ridden a Dirtbike once, and now I must become Ewen. Following in Papa’s footsteps (and my Uncle and his ‘03 R1200)
Why the triumph scrambler instead of the tiger??
The fork in the road was such a good analogy
I wanted to buy an SV650 but now I`m honestly considering a V-strom 650 because I sit SOOOO much more comfortable on the latter...
From another Alex do it i had the 3rd gen sv until I had a car accident but it was awesome but I'd imagine the vstrom would be more comfortable
It took until this video to realize how cool it is to be sponsored by Progressive. Congrats, Yammie
Best one for offroad is re himalayan. It's cheap it's capable. Just ride it once and u will change ur opinion on re.
I think that's the best entry level ADV. I'm looking at them. Critics have pointed out they're a little heavy off-road.
@@williamellison3382 My roommate has one. I'm 6'4" 220 lbs and been riding dirt bikes my whole life. I think the RE feels smaller and slower than a 250 dirt bike. Good for a serious newbie but for a bigger guy or someone with a bit of background experience, go with something like the KLR 650 over the RE
The only downside of the AT are the eyes ? I think this design looks decent. This List is not complete without a RE himalayan..
Anytime you mention Shadetree you make me a happy viewer!
Very nice wordsmithing, a pleasure to hear
The Pan America isnt brave, it's harely playing catch up
No time like the present to do that. I've ridden one (last week). It was fucking fabulous.
As far as the ADV market is each size should get its chance. Since when do you compare a Ninja 300 to an R1 yet you did in this class of bikes. Maybe Spike with his back country roots can do a better job of telling us what steed to choose for what.
Papa Yam. No hate just saying
Where is the V-Strom?
The 1250gs is a great bike but boring! So much more fun on the VSTROM for half the price.
Surprising that the Tiger 900 isnt up there, clearly your personal opinion about advs...
Those are some very good prices you have in the US. In Europe the prices are slightly higher, but also in Euro so in total around 20% more
Klr 650? Triumph tiger rally pro?
BMW GS 1250 still rules in my opinion, whenever i ride it i feel like a 45-50yr old dentist that likes to play tennis in the weekends
The worst ADV ever and a lame bike with the poorest quality, endless problems. Curb weight 268 kg, do you call that Adventure? It is a joke.
Or you’re dressed like you’re going on the pan American highway when you’re just running up to the local grocery store
I as a honda boi now feel validation, thank you papa yam.....thank you
Agreed, GSA dethroned from being compared to these ADV bikes. It’s in a league of its own way above this silly list
Still blasting the road and bush on my 1290 Super Adventure R. KTM GUYS RULE
Best lightweight, dirt-worthy adventure bike... Beta 390 or 430RR-S all day.
"......you'd need some serious testicular fortitude" ROFL really, yammy should do stand up comedy really, hilarious
Because i am certainly you did not… just go out and ride the R1250GSA and see for yourself , it’s a blast
And no, i am not a dentist. I am a mechanic
Africa Twin looks like a Gundam.
