I was just walking the lot at Subaru the other day while my Onyx XT was getting an oil change. There's a lot of variation in the price of the WRX trim levels but the Base is a helluva deal.
I went from a 21 Outback XT to a 23 WRX. I do miss the outback for its versatility. It remember also it goes like a scaled monkey when you put your foot down. I really missed the nimble handling of the WRX though, which is the only reason I traded in the outback.
Honestly all of them are a deal because you can get subaru to do deals on them. most dealerships are willing to sell at invoice, so that makes the base model about 28grand new. which is the same price as a civic si
My first & last WRX was a brand new 2010. Sticker price $24,995 / 5 speed manual / 265 HP/ 0-60 time 4.7 seconds [bone stock off the lot]. Had it for almost 14 years and enjoyed it immensely. They’ve literally just gone backwards every year thereafter with this car. I’d love to see a big turbo in the Forrester Wilderness some day +300 HP
Back in the day my buddy had a 2002 wrx. Revved the engine to 5k rpm and dropped the clutch. RIP gearbox. Anyway back in the 2000s' they were really fast cars.
Hahaha yeah, that’s when these shined. One of the few cars from the early 2000’s that benefited from AWD to launch out of the hole. Now so many performance cars have AWD.
low redline and gearing that require you to shift into 3rd are what kills the 0 to 60 times on this car. How about doing this performance measurement against other cars on snow/ice/mud? It would be a different story for sure.
I’m 52 and I will be buying one soon
Nice!! I bet you’re going to have a lot of fun.

Super review! I’d like to switch to the WRX base from a 2023 Civic. Just worried about gas consumption.
Thanks!! That would be a fun switch, but also you can’t beat Civic MPG, lol.

That sounds awesome!! I have a couple videos I’ll make public at some point of my favorite STI. The 2014 Wide Body WRB hatch! 😎
what do you drive now
Great review!
Thanks!! 🙂

33k for a base wrx... when in 2021 a brand new STI base was $36k... cmon subaru you can't be asking STI prices for a wrx lmao
Paid 29,500 for my 23 base
Key word "was." There is no such thing as a "brand new STI" anymore. You can't really compare the two.
All new car prices are ridiculous now
Review the automatic next I like automatic tm
At oy 271HP does it really qualify as a performance sedan? Definitely seems like pretty average power and performance by modern standards.
Haha yeah, they were super impressive like 20 years ago, but they’ve not really become any faster since then..
Heck, that 0-60 time is very respectable! Sadly, we all know that WRXs are usually badly abused by their owners.
Yes. Respectible for a new van.

@@jedwin4816 GR Corolla and Golf R will outpace this with ease in snow / ice/ mud.
@@layne4376you think so? I have no idea but I would love to see such a test.
@@jedwin4816 Both have considerably more power and torque vectoring AWD (full time). The Golf R uses a version of Audi's RS3 Quattro.
I like how it's slow and ugly!
Haha that’s part of the charm.
