In the late 70's Kate appeared in the US on "Saturday Night Live" singing this, in a fedora and a trenchcoat with many of the same dance moves as this video. I got the album shortly thereafter and fell in love with it. To this day it's my favourite Kate album. And this is my favourite song from that album.

The audio for this video is from The Kate Bush Live on Stage EP 1979 ( you can hear the audience at the beginning and end). which got to number 10 in the UK. Apparently, actual stage footage was not yet ready so Kate recreated the stage performance for this video. So what you are hearing is a live performance. It was also the first recording on which Kate took the lead as the producer.
Her and the two dancers do the same routine in the 1979 BBC Christmas special. But the camerawork there is better there than in this video. The forward rolls from the dancers, her jumping up and being caught by them like an ironing board. The framing is too close and cuts too late on this video to appreciate it.

Season 4, Episode 8 on 09DEC78 puts Kate at 20 years. She sang this song and "The Man with the Child in his Eyes". This is also the episode Dan Ackroyd plays Julia Child - and turns into a bloody mess in the kitchen.

A song to really help take the load of seriousness off the painful situations that may come up in all those different kinds of relationships we have in life. Looking at life with a little madness like Kate does in this song is probably the most healthy thing a person can do. BRAVA KATE. You soothe souls. You are the Queen.
So-called “anti-racists” can`t deny that they want a world in which White people are an ever-decreasing population until eventually we no longer exist because of mass immigration and “assimilation” being forced on every White country. It is an act of genocide to advocate or facilitate the destruction of a racial or other group. Lots of people are saying: Anti-racist is a codeword for anti-White.
It's amazing to me how expressive and uninhibited Kate Bush is as a performer - when she seem so sweet and modest when you see her interviewed. It's hard to believe it's actually the same person, the contrast is so dramatic.
I was 12 when The Kick Inside came out and this was my favourite track. I have all of Kate's albums and have loved and listened to them all ever since. She was and still is a genius.

The way I see it, there is a spiritual message in the lyrics of this song and also in how the video played out I see the metaphysics in this message relating to spiritual residues
after one year of listening to her i said: all the other music can be taken away from me i don't care, all i need is kate bush. after 25 years: the same.
My friend used to joke me with this song back to 2020. and it hurt me to know that he isn't with me since early November from last year. Miss you, Steve. Always do.
Saw her perform this song on the original SNL. I was awe struck because I’d never heard or seen a style like hers. Still Luv her music these many years later.
Kate is incredible. An utterly unique voice and talent, and a true visionary. But also incredibly provocative and sensual. I know I'm just repeating what everyone else has said but I just wanted to say it too!! Congratulations on your recent success Kate, it just goes to show how timeless and unique your work is!
I know exactly what you mean. Even as I look at her today, despite how she's aged (gracefully, I should say), I just love her so much. Such a beautiful soul. The world is a better place with her in it...
Why does is matter? Stuart Avon Arnold and Gary Hurst were Kate Bush's long-time dance partners, and they appeared in plenty of her shows and danced with her for years. Unfortunately, Gary died in 1990 from complications arising from AIDS, but Stuart still choreographs and dances to great success. Both were great friends of Kate's. I doesn't matter what race they are. They were/are great dancers and continue to thrill the world with videos like this.
She selected 2 of her classmates training with Lindsay Kemp for her dancers. In all their performances with KB they crush it. It's really sad about Gary(❤). But, as you say, Stuart is still busy with his career.
My 2 1/2 year old loves listening to this song when he goes to sleep. The 6 year old enjoys it too! They both enjoy the dancing as well ... especially at the end.
Ever since I discovered her music my taste in music has changed because I can relate to such energy i catch myself singing or even dancing to her mysic its really some whimsical ah shit
Dana Vixen I know what you mean. kate is much more mystical and music was much more unique at that time in general ( The magical 1980s) because the artists were not as controlled by the greedy industry. plus people were more in tune with the inner self. I have faith that the good times and real golden talent will return one day :)
You can say theatre, choreography, acting, dance, writing, arranging and performing music and singing, or you can just say "Kate Bush" and that covers all of them.
The audio for this video is from The Kate Bush Live on Stage EP 1979 ( you can hear the audience at the beginning and end). which got to number 10 in the UK. This has been going round my head for a couple of days so had to play it. Love Kate Bush, but not sure I really liked this when it came out as a single. Might have appreciated it more if I'd seen this video. Her mouth alone makes such brilliant expressions!
For some reason I resonate with this song. One of my favorites. I don't know exactly what the song is about, but for me it reminds me of finding and falling in love with music at a young age.
I had a coworker who said, "rolling the ball, I don't get it!" My estimation of that coworker went way down in an instant. Smart people love Kate and understand her weird but highly intelligent lyrics.

They made me look at myself, I saw it well
I'd shut the people out of my life
So now I take the opportunities
Wonderful teachers ready to teach me
I must work on my mind, for now I realize

They read me Gurdjieff and Jesu
They build up my body, break me emotionally
It's nearly killing me, but what a lovely feeling
I love the whirling of the dervishes
I love the beauty of rare innocence
You don't need no crystal ball
Don't fall for a magic wand
We humans got it all, we perform the miracles
Them heavy people hit me in a soft spot

She is so unique, expressive, confident, gorgeous. She pulls u in. Adorable!
You're absolutely right 😉
It is so amazing that she is such a wonderful talented singer, dancer, songwriter, composer, performer and storyteller! I love Kate Bush! ❤️
She was so awesome on those first few albums, all the facial expressions and mannerisms so amazing!!
The way I see it, there is a spiritual message in the lyrics of this song and also in how the video played out
I see the metaphysics in this message relating to spiritual residues
after one year of listening to her i said: all the other music can be taken away from me i don't care, all i need is kate bush. after 25 years: the same.
Yep, nothing comes close to her music, I’ve loved her since I was thirteen I’m now forty eight and still love her, she is amazing
Me too.lana del Rey too nowadays. ❤
I have to strongly agree with this.
This woman has hidden talents, on top of her obvious ones!! I love her!!
I love Kate Bush this is one of my favourite songs of hers I'm forever listening to it it's absolutely brilliant ❤️💕❤️
When I listen to old music like Kate bush I'm glad my Dad had a great taste in music when I was a growing up.
same here...my da knows tunes.
Is it TH-cam or somewhere? Would love t see that.
I was totally mesmerized by Kate Bush when she sang this many many moons ago on Saturday Night Live, circa 1980
English rose = Kate Bush. I saw her in Munich in 1979 and it was a wonder to behold.
Captivating. Thoughtful. Beautiful. Unique. Provocative. Natural. Timeless.
Kate is like watching a concert, wrapped inside a musical, surrounded by concept- art. Rave.
maybe my new favorite, how wonderful it is to discover new good stuff in general but also from Kate Bush.
Always faling in love when i see Kate Bush .
I know exactly what you mean. Even as I look at her today, despite how she's aged (gracefully, I should say), I just love her so much. Such a beautiful soul. The world is a better place with her in it...
That is true like a cow .Als we say in Holland
dusty hendriks Ain't that a great saying? And so true, even today.
Thanks Flo.You no my girl friend has ben to Kate Bush London about 3 weeks back .Still going strong .
dusty hendriks I went a month ago. Still going strong - and yesterday I listened to the bootleg audio of the concert for the third time!
Love you to bits,Kate…forever ❤
100 % amazing - a unique talent - loved her since Wuthering Heights - I was 13 - and I still love her today - just fabulous 😊
My 2 1/2 year old loves listening to this song when he goes to sleep. The 6 year old enjoys it too! They both enjoy the dancing as well ... especially at the end.
:)
Ever since I discovered her music my taste in music has changed because I can relate to such energy i catch myself singing or even dancing to her mysic its really some whimsical ah shit
woah.. what a minx.. there will never be another kate
Indeed
+karl nicholls Right back at you! They are talented. However, Kate Bush moves me more. Just my opinion!
+karl nicholls It took listening to Peter Gabriel's Don't Give Up as a kid to make me feel this way.
Dana Vixen I know what you mean. kate is much more mystical and music was much more unique at that time in general ( The magical 1980s) because the artists were not as controlled by the greedy industry. plus people were more in tune with the inner self. I have faith that the good times and real golden talent will return one day :)
Dana Vixen ps my favourite is (breathing) wow just wow
Still such an extraordinary and fun video. Her great mix of humor and profundity. The slo-mo fight is just amazing choreography.
I love this one. Kate you are original.
You can say theatre, choreography, acting, dance, writing, arranging and performing music and singing, or you can just say "Kate Bush" and that covers all of them.
Love this song. I remember it when i was about 8 in 1979
Ahead of her time. I saw her sing this song on SNL back in the late 70s. I was captured by her talent. Love this song.
The Epitome of Sensual. There will never be Anyone like Kate Bush
She was so precocious. And gorgeous... And musical... Yet I'm not jealous. Just happy she exists. 🙂💕🙏
One of my favorite songs of all time. I get so happy whenever I hear this one.
A magnificent singer and a stunner to boot. Fell in love with her when I was about 10. Lol!!
This has been going round my head for a couple of days so had to play it.
Love Kate Bush, but not sure I really liked this when it came out as a single. Might have appreciated it more if I'd seen this video. Her mouth alone makes such brilliant expressions!
Loved doing impressions of Kate for the family as a tiny little girl 👧 xxRespect/ love to Kate , a genius!
I first remember hearing this song in the autumn of 1979 when I was 12 and in the second year of secondary school(now year 8) happy memories.
Exactly the same as me. The class of kate bush is almost enigmatic
Extraordinary talent.
For some reason I resonate with this song. One of my favorites. I don't know exactly what the song is about, but for me it reminds me of finding and falling in love with music at a young age.
Too Funny! She is so totally honest with herself and makes me feel that way about myself. A cool lady
Always been mesmeric and aesthetically beautiful precocious and then she starts singing … which is the voice of an angel. The female version of Bowie.
Bloody hell, seeing this today is even more stunning than it was back in the day. Talent & skill beyond words.
I was fortunate to be introduced to Kate Bush's music in the 70s when I was stationed in Scotland. I love her music to this day.
When someone is brilliant and you cannot spot any influences you have to come to the conclusion they are genuinely talented.
I had a coworker who said, "rolling the ball, I don't get it!" My estimation of that coworker went way down in an instant. Smart people love Kate and understand her weird but highly intelligent lyrics.
Awesome choreography
Finest beautiness
Sweetest vocal - take/ peformance
Excellent Quality.
How does she do this? No one like her, ever. A living breathing human treasure.
