100% my favourite nano. I bought a group of chillis a couple of years ago but only recently discovered after looking into breeding them that half of them may not be boraras brigittae after all. I've tried getting them to spawn in rainwater the past couple of weeks but not had any luck so I've given up for now. One interesting thing I've read about is that if the bororas are to crossbreed then the offspring will be sterile.
@@FishShopMatt ok so I had given up on these guys until I spotted two fry today! 🥳 I've uploaded a slightly blurry video to my channel if you're interested 😅
I'm super happy I got 15 of those guys for my 2nd nano tank. Like you mentioned, when i get close to the tank they get excited because it usually means food. It's so cool seeing them swim through the small wood branches. They don't mind sharing the tank with some cherry shrimp.
Love every fish files, but the chilis are the next fish on my list to get! I wanted to add them to my sparkling gourami and Cory tank :) It was great to add to my research, thanks Matt!
For the last couple of years I’ve always kept a scool of Boraras briggitae with my Croaking Gouramis, (Trichopsis Vitata). They blend really fine with the Trigonostigma espei too. 😊👌 I mostly feed with frozen food such as cyclops and dafnia but also fine chopped black mosqito larvae or bloodworms.
@@TexasTuesdays I really don’t know. The downside of popular names I guess? In Denmark we have the Croaking Gouramy and the Croaking Dwarf Gouramy. It’s the biggest one that’s called Trichopsis Vitata in latin.
That's a beautiful pairing I bet they look great together. The sparkling and croaking gouramis are separate species and then you can get even more complex as there are several species within those common names. Sparkling tend to be smaller with blue and green spots, then the croaking tend to be a bit more brown in colour with less blue spots.
Any species from the boraras genus is the best nano fish. I've got 9 chilis and 1 phoenix (the phoenix was shipped to me among several chilis, so it may have been accidental), and they are absolutely wonderful. Such easy fish to care for, and they have so much personality. Very adaptable too as you stated. I'm sure I've mentioned this already but mine mine are living in a pH of 7.6, and in a temperature of 76°F (24°C). Nitrate in their tank always sits at 5.0 ppm, and they show no issues with this. They also live with a few snail species, two female bettas and 6 ember tetras. They all really like to interact with the tetras, and the smaller of the two bettas. When I had my celestial pearls in the same tank, the chilis started hiding, and they never reacted that way to new tankmates before, so I'm assuming these two species aren't that compatible. Regarding food, I have micro pellets that are still too big for them, so I put them in a bowl and grind them up with a spoon so they're powder-like. These are high protein pellets, 42% protein, which is better for them since chilis are micropredators.
Thank you for the video. I m about to buy some chilli soon. It couldn t be more on time a video with info about them especially coming from you. Love from Romania!
Definitely one of the brightest nano fish that’s suitable for most smaller aquariums! I love mine even if they’re in a slightly larger aquarium and get lost!
Love the Fish Files Matt. It's nice to learn about the different types of fish before deciding which ones we want to invest in. Thank you so much. Love your channel.
Thanks Matt for another great, informative video. I love learning about the diverse world of fish. And there are sooo many to choose from that I'm not confident enough to pick out a fish suitable for my tank parameters and for me. And yes there is Google, but I'm very old school, and most the time I forget to even take my phone with me. LOL. So this helps me out tremendously. Thank you. Not to pinpoint my age, but I come from the world of encyclopedias and rotary phones. 😂 hahahahaha.
They’re one of my favorites! Bold, active, and happy little fish. I call them my “forever hungrys” they are quite persistent! I have them with my Pygmy Cories (and about 25+ Pygmy Cory fry) & Habrosus Cory’s. Everyone lives peacefully and the Pygmy Cory fry spend most of their time up top with the Chili Rasboras for some reason 😂 maybe because they’re the same size and they’re confused…

I've just brought some January tetra, absolutely love these fish, easy to keep and swim well with others. Also I got some rainbow tetras, now these have a beautiful shimmer to them, Will definitely get more.
Hi Matt, had these up a week ago, 1 by 1 lost over the couple of weeks unfortunately, sharing 70 litre tank with ember tetras and green neon tetras, dwarf corydoras and albino corydoras, otocinclus and cherry shrimp and 1 male betta, all these fish are fine and healthy, aquarium heavily planted, aquarium is over 6 months old, all the rasbora came from the same shop, parameters are fine and constant, i feed frozen and use crushed flakes and granules. Love these little fish, great channel and very informative.
I've got a nice group of them in a 35Liter, their absolutely awesome. Had some clown killis in there before with them, but they did dominate the tank a bit more, causing the chilli's to hide much more.
Matt! Good to see you on your own. Loved the content with MD, but definitely enjoy the in depth knowledge that comes from your channel. Keep it up, brother! From Dallas Texas, USA
Hi Matt, glad I checked out your channel after seeing you on MD's for a while...enjoying the videos! I am planning a large tank, probably a deep 5-6 footer, with mostly Tetras - Green Neons, Rummy Noses, Diamond Head Neons, Ember Tetras, Golden Tetras...too many, most likely! Plus I really like the Forktail Blue Eyes Rainbow Fish (Pseudomugil Furcatus), and some Celestial Danios...knowing that the Danios, the Golden Tetras and the Rainbow Fish will be feisty to their own kind, hope not to the others...plus some of the Aussie versions of Amanos (can't get the real deal here), some dark blue Cherry shrimp and my favourites, the Otocinclus as clean up crew, along with ramshorn snails. Could add some Corydoras, I suppose, but I think I have enough in the tank already. Probably too many fish! With say 15-20 of most types...I want a peaceful community tank, filled with colour and movement, heavily planted/scaped in the natural style you show so well. Would love comments re the compatibility of these fish etc 😄 From research, the Rummy Noses would stay schooling together, the other Tetras would often be all mixed in together, and the Danios would stay at the bottom of the tank with their own hidey holes in the scape to feel comfortable enough to come out. Was thinking of Espei Rasboras, but took them out as too many, sigh. I have had a 4' tank in the past with Congos and Cardinals, the Congos got too aggressive with any other tank mates, and the Cardinals were pretty shy most of the time.
I just added a dozen to my 10 gallon. Heavily planted. Moved my betta from her 5 gallon to the ten. The chilis are a fantastic little fish. The color is wonderful! And everyone gets along. Sprinkles, the betta, a hillstream loach, 12 chili rasboras, and a few amano shrimp. It was great to see this video pop up this morning! I couldn't click fast enough! Thank you Matt!

@@FishShopMatt yeah, mine is a funny dude. He will do the crazy dance in a front when I walk into the room. Yet, he won’t take any dry foods. I keep for him a culture of white worms lol 😂
I have some harlequin Rasboras in the 20 long I use as a plant grow out for extra clipping I don't have the heart to trash. It was a surprise when I learned they mate on leaves by flipping completely upside down haha. Rasboras are very cool in a planted tank.
They are still on my wishlist. I want to try a very large group in a 4 ft aquarium. Complete tank with peacefull species and small corydora's like the habrosus in large groups. BTW, i think you have some maculatus in your chili group :) Keep up the good work. For some reason for me the MD video's were better when you took part in them. Your knowledge on the hobby is amazing, and i subbed the moment i saw you started a channel. It's such good information, really well told.
thanks for sharing no wonder ive been buying the dull boraras sold as chillie rasboras in Singapore. just a feedback the audio is soft compared to other youtube videos audio level. btw you have a new subscriber to your channel keep it up!!
Such a lovely species. Unfortunately I made a noob mistake by adding cold water that shocked my vase pair. They eventually succumbed to the physiological injuries incurred seemingly to do with the swim bladder. I cannot wait to add some again in the future as mine were very happy and hardy in a small vase setup. Thanks and cheers.
they live in my kitchen at room temperate, cool summer nights or winter frost goes down to 15.5C without even losing color. they only breed in summer for me tho
Thanks for another great video :) I love my little chillis- just moved them to my kitchen tank with some red cherry shrimp. They really pop against my Anubias and Java fern. They are darting about and look like they are having a blast. Feeding them on the crumb food from one of your recent videos, they seem to thrive on it. I have sponge filters so the flow is just about right for them, and no risk of the fish or shrimp getting into the filter :)
Keep up the great informative videos! Always feels like a treat to watch an in depth dive on a species. Have you don't ember tetras yet? I look forward to seeing what you put out next.
I keep a school of them in my cherry shrimp tank. Was worried at first and they do eat the tiniest shimps but with in a week they’re too big and the adult shrimp bully the rasbora. They’re full of more character than I’d have thought. Independent and schooling which is neat to watch.
Pretty fish! I have plans for setting up a 20 gallon aquarium soon. A school of chilis would be nice. Are mosquito fish too aggressive to put with them?
I’m sooooooo Thankful you popped up on my TH-cam. The amount of information I have gotten from you is just crazy. You have also encouraged me to try again with a planted tank. I had one a few years back and my plants did great but my fishies did not. So of course I didn’t try again because of how much I spent to get it all together, I thought that just might be for the pros. The hubby took me out running around yesterday to see what locally we could get around here and unfortunately our pet shops do no have the variety I see you display, do you have an online site you would suggest? Keep up your amazing work
Can you please do a Dwarf Gourami Fish-File? Also so glad to see you posting a little more regularly! Can’t wait to see what you bring us in the future!!
Excellent video Matt! I have another Rasbora. Labeled as a Strawberry Rasbora at my LFS. The males are smaller than the female and also color up very well. Not as intense as the chilis though. I believe they were the second one in the line of pictures near the start of the video. Small black spot on the side and another at the base of the tail fin. Super hardy and so far have been in my aquarium for 3+ years. Chili Rasbora are next on my list for the new tank I'm setting up. Thanks for all of the great information and entertaining content Matt.
Great video!😊. Love the fish pictures on the video. Must have been hard to edit. Fun to watch. The fish s that are like cut outs on the screen. Love them very clear images to make choices from.
Neat, I already got these, they are so nice looking and very chill. I do regret mixing them with the green Kubotai those are way more bulky and bully them for food as they are way more active.

Glad you like them!
I keep 6 of them in my 10 gallon tank with alien betta . They are wonderful ❤
oOoOO I do love alien bettas!
@@FishShopMatt yeah, mine is a funny dude. He will do the crazy dance in a front when I walk into the room. Yet, he won’t take any dry foods. I keep for him a culture of white worms lol 😂
Thanks for your wonderful information Matt. I intend to buy those guys it seems they are great fish.
I have some harlequin Rasboras in the 20 long I use as a plant grow out for extra clipping I don't have the heart to trash. It was a surprise when I learned they mate on leaves by flipping completely upside down haha. Rasboras are very cool in a planted tank.
Giving these guys a go soon! Thanks for the info!
Amazing information Mat, great❤ work
Thanks Matt, been thinking of getting some of these little guys for my nano tank. Great video
Awesome video matt! I want to add these with neon tetras would you see any issues with that?
Thank you. No I think you would be fine!
Love the videos as always.
Thank you!
I have these at home and they're just amazing!
Phenomenal video Mateo! I learned so much about these guys and gals that I never knew! Well done Sir!
Looking forward to more content! ❤
Sounds absolutely perfect for them!!!
Nice job, Matt
Keep up the great informative videos! Always feels like a treat to watch an in depth dive on a species. Have you don't ember tetras yet? I look forward to seeing what you put out next.
I am going to enjoy your channel this was very informative, well done ❤❤❤
Wow, Matt. Your follower numbers have shot up! Well done! I'm gonna give these little fellas a go in a few weeks. Thanks for the info.
I think the mosquito fish would get on fine. Just make sure they have a load of hiding places to get away from each other if they need to.
I'm planning on putting a big group of these in my 160cm tank, love how tiny and bright they are
Thanks
I love my Espei Rasboras ❤
