Ugh. I’m a physician, the mind body connection is always top of mind and something we try to discuss always (and patients often brush us off when we do)🤦🏻♀️, we’ve been trying to talk to patients about obesity for decades, and no matter how many people angrily demand their “zpack”’s as if they’re ordering off a menu antibiotic stewardship is always paramount especially in a hospital setting, etc etc - there’s so much nuance and so many details that he is glossing over and it is clear he doesn’t know the actual ground level day to day stuff that actual doctors practicing actual medicine are doing. I’m a fan, but Bill on this subject just frustrates me to no end. Myself and all of my colleagues all practice with these things in mind and make a lot of effort to reach people on these subjects so to regularly hear such incorrect assumptions and generalizations on what doctors supposedly do just is so disheartening, especially as a primary care doctor. I wish he’d have some actual physicians on to discuss the real deal. And not political takes, like the real inside of what is going on and the actual day to day barriers that then leave these impressions. And no, ivermectin is not just a horse de-wormer, but it is an anti-PARASITIC, you use it when someone has a parasite, not a virus. Before anyone takes such a medication that can also fyi be quite hard on the liver (not to mention all of its potential drug interactions) they should have a real solid indication for why there are doing so as well as be monitored while receiving it, and that’s no joke nor is it political-speak.
- Covid wasn’t an issue in the global south because they had access to cheap off label treatments. We know why those very treatments were demonized, along with the doctors advocating for their use in the West. Nor why proper studies on such treatments were not commissioned by those that hold the purse strings on the research. Rather only bogus studies with fixed results published by journals underwritten by the pharma industry and their captured regulatory agencies who benefit from keeping positive results suppressed. As we saw with the phony research conducted on HCQ in the spring of 2020, when both The Lancet and NEJM had to retract their publications. Luckily there were several studies conducted that proved an over 80% effectiveness rate with IVM. You can leave a comment stating you’re a physician and claiming Ivermectin has no benefit for covid, but your opinion does run counter to many frontline doctors that have had lots of success, and since they have been censored and harassed, I tend to believe them and their evidence, because it’s not real science if doctors and scientists around the world are being censored and their research suppressed. You sound more like someone that just obeys the symbols of authority, and follows the indoctrination patterns of your big pharma masters rather than has a curiosity and passion to actually help patients by looking at the data and research from doctors that have treated thousands of covid patients with great success. Hope to god you never prescribed Remdesivir or are pushing an unnecessary experimental gene therapy concoction onto children.
Thank you, aac72079. I love watching Bill, but tonight I found he was making a hypocrite of himself. Especially the meta-message. Yes Bill made his point (and pointing a finger) about obesity, but in less than a minute he’s arguing about health science recommendations as a violation of his beloved freedom. There was a few of these moments tonight, ironically even with the woman on the panel, where he could have been less reactionary and shown more class, like the male guests tonight. Bottom line, If you’re not “all that” (ie a physician and licensed epidemiologist, on the Coronavirus topic) then a little humility would go far…..
Thank you Doctor!! Maher has be making me crazy with his uninformed opinions re: science. I've been screaming at the TV lol. He has not dared to have an MD on to provide actual facts.

@@xfactor3000 "Some of us just don't want our families and children to be part of the experiments or mistakes." Scientific progress ends when people stop taking risks. You do not understand medicine as well as you think you do. I know you're smart about a lot of things. Medicine and science? Not so much.
Bill generalizes issues too much at times. He overdramatizes too much at times. He should have stuck to his main premises...religions are bogus and economic disparity are the root of problems.
Bill thinks his experience having Covid makes him an expert. He is basically saying, I had Covid and, eh, it wasn't that bad, I'm fine now. He is just dismissing all of the people that died from Covid, that lost loved ones to Covid, those living with Complications caused by Covid and those living with long Covid. His cynicism has overtaken his judgement.
The "obesity" commentary by Bill Maher was priceless and ON TARGET. Thank you Bill for calling out the truth and the dangers of enabling addictive behaviors.
As a physician, I find his opinion refreshing.. One thing is accepting the disease, other thing is embracing and enabling it. Big difference. You wouldn't clap for someone who is proud of having cancer or some other disease... I know this issue is nuanced, but still...
there’s something wrong with American food. European friends say they gain weight when eating the same food while here and they lose it once they are back. Alternative, healthy food is significatively more costly and a dietitian requires additional budget. There’s also a mental health issue, same as alcoholism or opioids. Fighting obesity means fighting the food and health industry. It’s easier to normalize obesity. It’s ok for Bill to say its not but blaming it on “weak behavior” is worse than fat shaming.
He needs to connect it with life quality, a lot of people eat to de-stress. The life quality we see in the Simpsons is no longer attainable for most people. 100% on mind/body relationship. My mother, in her last years, after many life changing events , developed all kinds of issues that the doctors couldn't find a reason for. I told them, as well as my mother, that it was psychological. My mother was not amused, she thought I meant she was making it up. That isn't it at all! As for the doctors, they didn't want to hear it, because they couldn't make any money if they stopped sending her for all kinds of useless tests, or giving her useless pills (this was in the US, I live elsewhere but spent a great dal of time with her there) I spoke to many others in her retirement community who had *fibromyalgia*, one of my mothers problems as well. EVERY one that I spoke to had a life changing event prior to the onset of that ailment. Life changing events, isolation and loneliness is , in my opinion directly related to depression and other illnesses, particularly evident in places like retirement communities. It couldn't be more obvious, but until pharmaceutical companies can find a way to make money from psychology, too many pills (my mother was on an insane amount, none of which helped) and unnecessary testing will continue.
My brother who, seemingly out of the blue, wouldn't speak to me any longer, got throat cancer & died (within 1 year). In his 80's, my father (one of my primary abusers), who refused to acknowledge or see continuing abuse in our family, lost ALL of his sight within a year, leaving him permanently blind. I, who was struggling to continue assisting my father amidst continuing abuse, broke my right hand (several bones) and completely snapped my lower left wrist, in 2 separate incidents within a year. (Making it impossible to assist anyone!) I related the ironies of all this to my father, put down MORE boundaries between us (& took a full 7 month break from helping or seeing him), & healed both hands to full function. Ya. There is a massive connection between the mind & body, for overall good health. Know this. Peace, x & a whole lot of gratitude to All (including my family!). :)
I agree there is a mind/body relationship but not everyone with chronic illnesses like fibromyalgia suffer from depression, loneliness, etc. Fibromyalgia is not a psychological condition and neither psych meds nor therapy will solve the issue. If they do suffer from depression, it usually appeared after the chronic illness, not the other way around. That's not to say depression can't cause similar symptoms but the depression can be treated yet the fibromyalgia remains.
I asked my elderly retired head Nurse Mother from the Old School days, (Cap/Gown/Polished shoes) about Fibromyalgia. She said, because so many Hypochondriacs were coming into the Hospitals with unknown identified Pain and suffering that would change to different parts of the body every other week, it was necessary to create a New condition of said individuals in order to appease them. Now, the mind being a very powerful thing does have the ability to Create illness the same as the "Sugar Pills" once the term was created could cure it. The medical establishment she said, had no recourse but to identify an ailment whether it is In the Mind or Not because it is real pain regardless how it got there.
I don't know that its advice, but I do know that doctors and nurses are conservative about giving out anti-biotics because of what Bill said, they don't just pass it out for fun.
Under normal circumstances, no one should dictate to you how to keep yourself healthy and safe (besides your doctor and any medical professionals you pay to do so). Epidemics and pandemics are NOT normal circumstances, and by definition affect massive amounts of people both nationally and internationally. In those cases, personal health translates to public health, and no one person's choice is more important than that. There's a reason people who intentionally or recklessly go around transmitting infectious diseases to other people, like STDs, get criminally charged and sued.
If those in charge of such matters are not corrupted by corporate lobbyists then your point would nearly be valid, but there is also the matter of incompetence. Good luck my friend
@@lynncarter4964 incompetence and corruption exists everywhere, because humans exist everywhere. it's part and parcel of society unfortunately. I never said I wanted no say in the matter; freedom of choice is still a thing and I'm not saying that the gov't should arrest people or throw them into internment camps or w/e, but there should definitely be severe penalties for putting your own personal choice above the wellbeing of society. the fact is that our lives are already and have always been in the hands of the gov't, that's literally why they're there. it is in the government's best interest to preserve the health and wellbeing of whom they govern. do they always act in that best interest? no. do they always do it well or on the first try? again, no. but neither does anyone else. but I trust the gov't to try solely because there is no benefit in letting their citizens drink bleach and take horse medicine to cure a virus. corporate lobbyists would drop like flies just like everyone else.
Nah, pandemics aren’t an excuse to bypass people’s rights. If you want to wear a mask abs get the vaccine, that’s on you. As for me & my family, we’ll deal with Covid in our own way that works for us.
@@afridgetoofar1818 1. you don't actually have rights. they're a made-up imaginary thing. 2. historically, yes, they are (or rather they're a reason not an excuse.) vaccines and mask mandates are not a new thing, they've been used before in past pandemics like the Spanish flu, H1N1, etc. and we didn't have the problem before of people thinking they knew better than the experts and claiming masks and medicine were "infringing their rights". it's not about what what anyone wants, it's about what the most effective way(s) of minimizing the spread and harm of infectious diseases are. if you endanger others by not following those protocols the gov't should punish you the same way they'd punish a reckless / drunk driver. so yeah you have the "right" to act recklessly and selfishly but when "your way of dealing with things" negatively impacts the health of other people you shouldn't get off scot-free, don't care how much better you think you know better than *actual medical professionals*
Antibiotics are given to patients with viral infections when they develop secondary bacterial infections. In COVID-19, secondaries boost mortality by double or more. Since you're very interested in COVID-19, you need a medical consultant to help you work out your rants. Taibbi's Ivermectin quip was golden! Bill, you met your match in this guy. He's the brighter bulb by 1,000 lumens. And, no, pulling out of Afghanistan was not the right thing.
You do know that Biden operated under the treaty that trump negotiated as to the date to pull out. It's not like Biden said, let's go now, he decided that pulling out according to the terms already negotiated was less costly than trying to renegotiate a deal that the other side was hostile to reenter talks with. Also valid studies have proven that Ivermectin is ineffective in treating Covid, so the resistance to an unproven medicine was the right call. No one was against it because trump supported it, they were against it because there was no proof for it's efficacy and subsequent studies have proven it is worthless as a treatment cor Covid.

Welcome to the Earth. Leaders of a lot of countries here try not to kill too many innocents, but it happens anyways. It happens anyways. It happens anyways. Then, there are leaders that go over the edge, like Hitler for one example. It happens anyways. Shitty people gain power, and a lot of innocents die when others attempt taking them out.
Thank you Doctor! So tired of Bill’s anti medicine nonsense. He’s embarrassing himself!
Thank you, aac72079. I love watching Bill, but tonight I found he was making a hypocrite of himself. Especially the meta-message. There was a few of these moments tonight, ironically even with the woman on the panel, where he could have been less reactionary and shown more class, like the male guests tonight. Scientific progress ends when people stop taking risks. there’s something wrong with American food. European friends say they gain weight when eating the same food while here and they lose it once they are back.
(Making it impossible to assist anyone!)
I related the ironies of all this to my father, put down MORE boundaries between us (& took a full 7 month break from helping or seeing him), & healed both hands to full function.

You had me right up until the end. It was going to be a shitshow no matter when we decided to get out. You know a country sucks and isn't worth inhabiting when occupation by their enemy improves the economy.
13 minutes, nice!! I'm glad Fox..I mean David stuck around for overtime, thanks David!
