Kinda hard to believe most of the actors in this movie are no longer with us! R.I.P. Marlon Brando, Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, Glen Ford, Susannah York, Trevor Howard, Ned Beatty & Jackie Cooper!
The music IS the blood of the Superman franchise, NO MOVIE MUSIC can compare to every soundtrack of today. John Williams will forever be the MASTER of musical soundtracks!!!!!!!!
One of the Rare occassions where the Music theme absolutely PERFECTLY fits with the movie and gives it a life of its own ! This is Very Rare and only has been done on a Few movies and this is one of them
I don't know what it is about these late 70's films. They just "LOOK" so much more classic on the screen. Maybe its the film stocks they used. The lenses. There is a sense of classicness about them that just does not come across in films today. Nothing touches the helicopter scene for Supes big entrance. "say man that's a bad out.........FIT!!"
DangerHillTerror The bean counters have taken over. The pendulum needs to swing back to film makers. Its always been a struggle between art and commerce but lately its become all about commerce. The 70's was a special time for movies. It was truly the last of the golden age. Everything changed after this.
Well done! Better make of the "montage" credit scene. The Richard Donner Cut really blew my mind of all the Marlon Brando footage that was left out of the "Lester" Cut. Not dissing mothers or Lara-El but, It's supposed to be "Son becomes the father, the father becomes the son."
It's also the fact that there's no real issue with Clark getting turned back into Superman in the Lester cut. It just kind of happens offscreen. The Jor-El version of the scene makes it clear that to get his powers back he has to sacrifice the essence of his father, so there's a cost to his decision.
xerxestireirondada Agreed. Hopefully that scene of Jor-El touching the shoulder of Clark was not redone for the Richard Donner cut with FX. In other words Christopher Reeve and Marlon Brando both shared and shot that scene together along time ago. Also I believe the crystal made it so that the Jor-El and not a mere projection touched him for the last time.
When a friend of mine told me they had a different version of Superman 2 which included Marlon Brando I thought it was amazing how when he begs to get his powers back even though exhaust the final energy left with JorEl how he disappears and rear pants and places his hand on them and then next thing you know he has his powers back
Richard Donner: “No way we are tampering with the legend.” Every other Superman movie director since: “We don’t care about preserving the legend of Superman. We want to make disgusting amounts of cash.”
There are two versions of “Superman II”. First, you can see the special Richard Donner edition, then you can compare it with the original theatrical version by Richard Lester. And finally you can reveal the difference between the two versions.
Anyway Channel. The theatrical v of part 2 is too much campy stuff but only holds up due to the Donner scenes. No John Williams is apparent. And the anorexic Lois lane in 2 then going back to healthy Lois lane threw me off . Also no John Williams is huge. Ken Thorne did ok but too tinny. Also having Brando back was awesome.
I love your adding the footage of Superman first taking flight in the Fortress Of Solitude. Why they didn’t include that footage in the 1980 release is beyond me. Outside of that, give me the original.
Yeah in a way I was slightly harsh about Ken Thornes adaptation of the score I wasn't aware that his orchestra was half the size of London symphony orchestra don't get me wrong the score throughout the movie sat perfect but the title score I just wasn't struck on didn't think it had as much bombastic appeal as oppose the original John Williams score
Incorrect, It was created from scratch in After Effects. All of the credits up to Valerie Perrine are redone, then the originals continue up to the replaced directors credit.
I like the theatrical and this newly remastered visual opening sequence. This was well done!!! I love how you were able to put directed by Richard Donner and Richard Lester. Superb!!! The only thing I would have added to the original theatrical Superman II film with the Richard Donner Cut is when General Zod said FREE!!! when the phantom zone was broken by the nuclear blast.
Dick Donners version was way better, even when I saw this at 8 years of age in the theater I hated Paris in the opening scene and when Lois lane finds out about superman by falling in fire and not burning his hand wtf? The gunshot with blanks was less corny!
Directed by 'Richard Donner & Richard Lester'. That's what it should have said in the damn first place, all the way back in 1980. Both men made valid contributions. I prefer that first cut.
Nice work, but you either forgot or ignored one thing - Donner refused to share credit with Lester. That's why so much of the second film was reshot; Lester had to film at least 51% with new scenes to get credit from the Directors' Guild. Gene Hackman refused to return after Donner was fired, so every scene with Lex is Donner's footage. The same was true with Brando, so the Salkinds brought back Susannah York to film a replacement sequence.
These revised titles how the hell did you get them exactly the same as the original sequence they are truly exceptional the only flaw I think was at the end don't think the earthquake scene should have dominated toward the end the original movie film sync sequences were better but the rest is a fine work of art indeed
Ill say this.....when he opens his shirt to expose the "S" symbol, that particular scene will never be done by anyone better that Richard Donner!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Boosh, Veris here. Like you, I'm getting back into the editing chair (God help me). I am so doggone impressed with how you seamlessly created the S2 style credits in After Effects. I'm just now learning to work with it. Is there any chance you might be able to help me learn how to do this, except with the STM style credits?
Hello mate. I started doing credits in the style of the first film for my old edit and I don't think it's possible to get them as accurate as this style using after effects. Using the echoes effect creates duplicates that create the trail of text. For Superman 2 seeing the individual echoes is the style so it's fine. For the first film it's more of a continued extrusion of clear text, so you have to apply motion blur to smear the layers into what looks like a 3D shape. It never really looks right in the end. Email me if you want to talk .
@@faneditedbybooshman I would like that, my friend. Not sure I still have your email. Would you be kind enough to let me know your current address? Thanks so much. I would like to not only tap your knowledge of After Effects, but I think it would be helpful to stay in touch and encourage each other on this road. Keep up the good work!
I tip my hat to you. This is perhaps one of the best alternate openings to II I've seen yet. I'm curious as to how you got Brando's name in the credits
no, i meant what teqniques did you do to get that s2 titles styles, also , can you email me you're version of the cut, please. russressel1234@gmail.com
Hi, the effect used is a variation of the echoes effect. There are multiple tutorials online on how to do the Superman 1 style titles. I adjusted the method to make it look like the superman 2 style. A match for the font is Granby Elephant BQ, but for the titles here I actually too screen grabs from the existing titles and cut out the names, so the size and spacing would be exact. Then for the Brando credit, I took letters from the other names to create the new credit. This new edit is incomplete, so I cannot send it to you.
faneditedbybooshman OK I’m gonna be honest with you right now I tried to do your version of the titles things on after effects but it turned out awfull, so I was hoping you can do the titles for me.
This 5-minute long intro is better than any superhero movie done in the last two decades. Perfect music cues at all the right places. Well done.
