    I think they put out too many sequels and remakes. The reason Barbie and Oppenheimer did so well is because nobody had seen them in a theater before. I liked Furiosa but was more mid on it. I hope theaters don’t close, maybe that’s because I work from home and it lets me get out of the house. Never miss your videos Sue!

      To me, expense is not really a reason because of monthly deals, discount days and matinee prices. If you take the time to research, you can find somewhere to go at a reasonable price.

    My wife wanted to go see a movie in theaters this weekend but I told her let's watch something at home because I hadn't seen Fury Road yet. I did go to Walmart and look for a 4K version of Fury Road to watch at home but they did not have it. So I ordered it on Amazon and will watch Furiosa when it comes out on 4k. There was really no other movie that I would have wanted to see in theaters

    • @MoviesSue
      @MoviesSue  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why wait to watch Furiosa at home? It will be in theatres for a bit, so why not watch after you see Fury Road? I'm just curious.

    • @SlaughterCinema1
      @SlaughterCinema1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MoviesSue I ordered the Mad Max collection on Amazon, and it says it won't arrive until the end of June. I've invested a lot of money into my home theater, so in my opinion, it's more comfortable to watch movies from home and more affordable. It would have to be a very special movie for me to want to go to theaters. The last movie we saw in theaters was ninja turtles mutant Mayhem. We will go see inside out on the opening weekend and possibly Deadpool 3.

    To this day, even after COVID I still go to see movies in the theaters, this past weekend I saw both Furiosa and Garfield and Furiosa was the better movie indefinitely. Even in April I saw every big movie such as Civil War, MOUW, Abigail, and Challengers, same with march, I saw every big movie from that month except for GVK. There was a span between September 29th and December 1st 2023 where I saw a movie each weekend for 10 weeks in a row. So yeah, I will still go see films in the theaters even tho the theater industry is still slimming short

  • @Spork718

    Covid killed the theater business. People have learned that they can just wait a few weeks for whatever movie they want to see to be available on demand.

    • @AlexP-dz7ew
      @AlexP-dz7ew 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Covid did not, streaming did. Like you said, the timeline between theatrical release and availability at home is so short, the incentive to go out and see it is low
      Also, the cost of seeing a movie in theaters versus the price of watching at home is not something the theaters can compete with. Especially for families or groups.

    • @fettmatic4106

    • @scottaudetat3090
      @scottaudetat3090 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's how they pay the bills. Studios need to give the theaters more money for showing the films. They give them peanuts, hence theaters have to rely on concessions to pay for everything. And with less people going, the prices just keep going up. How do people still not know this stuff by now?

    • @Murica08
      @Murica08 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I can remember a long time ago when Ebert and Roper were still with us I was watching their show and they were discussing DVDs and the difference between watching a movie at home and on the big screen. And one of them said something I’ll never forget they said when you’re watching a movie at home you’re controlling IT. You can pause it, go to the bathroom, go get popcorn , snacks etc. But he said when you watch a movie on the big screen the movie is controlling YOU. Once you sit in that seat the movie envelops you, you’re enveloped in it etc. you can’t get that experience at home. I always remembered that and I agree

  • @rileykgardner

    It’s the ticket prices. I did go and see Furiosa and I did like it. But for $14.99 for 11:55am on a Saturday, it’s too much. Plus the timing between theater release, streaming release, and physical release is too quick. There are too many movies it seems. I don’t know. So to be honest, I had it preordered before I even seen the movie. The cost of physical media and ticket prices is too similar now. So I tend to opt for the physical media. Which do I support? Can’t really do both for most movies. Back when ticket prices were $5 - $6 for a Saturday matinee, I would see 2 movies back to back.

    We live in times where fast food is now considered a luxury for many families. Going to the movies is a terrible experience now as well. People just don't know how to behave anymore. A double whammy for theater chains. Everyone needs to take a step back and realize that we aren't going back to pre-covid audience numbers.

    Ya know, pre-Covid, I remember the big "movie killer" was high movie budgets. Which I think is still an issue. At the moment you're either a micro budget indy project or a massive franchise movie. We need more moderate medium sized budget character driven pieces. Horror movies have also been showing us this for decades. If you're movie only cost $10million to make, guess what? $30 million is a massive success.

    Please check out The First Omen, Sue, it's a decent horror film. As for the box office, I thought Furiosa would generate at least 50 million at the box office as, despite how popular Mad Max Fury Road was, it only made 381 million at the box office worldwide. Movie studios are getting fooled as Warner Brothers got greedy, thinking people were going to see a prequel about Furiosa. It would have better to release on Max instead.
