In the city I live, Osasco, Brazil, which is a city next to São Paulo, the largest city of the country, there is a neighbourhood called Rochdale, which was named after the English town, considered a symbol of modern cooperativism.
I'm from Rochdale if you look on Google and search co_op Rochdale you will get the full history.our town was very famous for the industrial Revolution and the cotton mills.hope all is well in Brazil 👍🇬🇧
Nice video. My old home town, I lived near that old fire station and the Mormon church, and worked on Rochdale Buses for years. I used to climb those Church Steps to get home, no joke off a Late Turn! Thanks for the memories. in those days the Town Centre was our Bus Station!
I'm a Stevenage guy born and bred. Its a beautiful part of the UK. I have lived in the Rochdale area only the LAST YEAR and its just as beautiful as the rest of the UK. All you have to do is do what I do and LEARN the history. All parts of the UK are beautiful. So no mater where you live - just take a little time - and like me - LOOK.
great shots ... colors even on this grey day are amazing ... and vivid ... video footage equally good ... seems to have a really good zoom ... very smooth all the way
Nice video. Thanks . The charity shops were on the increase because Rochdale council charge businesses ridiculous fees for business rates! A chip shop has to pay £18k per year just to trade in the declining town centre. Hence why many shops have closed. The head of council don't have a clue what they doing. Recently they made a decision not to take part in something which could have made rochdale millions.. But council said no to it.. We need more diverse people working for the council in this town with more common sense.
I don't live in Rochdale anymore but my family still does, when i do return i do begin to appreciate some of it beauty especially the surrounding countryside unfortunately it doesn't last long and the fact that i am aware of its history makes it even more depressing, work is sparse in a town that once created so much. The media of course don't help and only serve to feed the governments ever lasting divide and conquer mentality. The trams i fear will only allow people to get to Manchester easier
Nice job on the tour! A suggestion to help those of us from the other side of the pond, maybe a Google map shot showing the location. Maybe a country wide shot and then drill down to the city. Would help planning our next trip over. Keep up the work.
@ashie259 Hi, thanks for the feedback, you are right I should have perhaps captioned the video. The big church shown is St Chads and does date back along time. It is quite dominant from the town centre and features really interesting gargoyles.
I use to live in Rochdale back in the 70s 80s. I use to go to the first co-op on millstone road and went to Sparrow hill annex school. Good memories of Rochdale town centre. Also remember the ABC cinema.
Hi thanks for viewing, spent weeks at Kodak camera repair operation (laterly T Kenyon's) and later our training facility there. Many weeks at the the Grampian hotel but not a lot to do there.
Thanks for the video. My ancestors are from Rochdale and although I have few illusions about the place nowadays, I do have a soft spot for it. Are any of the churches shown St Chad's, by any chance? Quite a few of my ancestors got married there around the turn of the century. I'd have appreciated a few captions so I knew what I was looking at. Nice job, though - thanks again
@ghough12, Wow the pics are so vivid, amazing job mate... A quick Q, I have a choice between this camera and the HX100V, which is the better option? Btw size is not a factor...thanks
@Grroocx Hi, I used the standard colour setting of the camera, with slight saturation boost in post processing. The bird was the peregrin falcon which has nested this year on the town hall, he was up and away before i could get the canera in manual focus!
I have heard the expression that the trams will allow people to get into Manchester faster, rather than allow new job opportunities in the town. Something needs to be done to regenerate this towns before they become just coffee and charity shops interspersed with poundlands.
Born and raised in Rochdale 1952, does anyone remember when there was a music venue under the town hall called ,THE CHAMBERS ? Used to find my girlfriend's there,
@HelenaMikas Thanks Helena. Even though it is in the top 29 depressed towns in England the new metro link might just throw it a lifeline when it is completed next year. When mcDonalds leave the town you know it's a bad situation! Have a great Christmas too ( and i haven't forgot the audio challenge). Graham

I didn't know that, I spent a year in Brazil but only in the capital. There is a Rochdale Street in Moscow too.

43 years gone, still feels like home. Well done.

A lot of buildings in the town are beautiful, too bad the town has slowly declined and is now almost dead.
Nice video. Thanks . The charity shops were on the increase because Rochdale council charge businesses ridiculous fees for business rates! Was born in Rochdale '57. I now live in Cornwall but my folks still live there as do my 2 sisters. So visit quite often.
has changed somewhat. I will be going back in summer to see more of the urbanisation work
@@GrahamHoughton12 yes it has changed. They have dug the road up in the centre to expose the river. Looks pretty neat. Nice feature.
Thanks again Graham , yet another gem of the north ...The region is so beautiful and few know it Have a great Christmas ....Helena :-)

St Chads is shown at 0.51 seconds, although the pics of the gravestones used as pathways are also in the grounds of St Chads.

No longer in Rochdale but damn it brings back childhood memories...
thank you, I must make a repeat visit to see how it has changed.

I’ve been to almost all the places in this video, around 2017, and it’s a nice and cozy town, with very beautiful women too.
I am very surprised you did not photograph the first Co-Op
shop as the Co-Oprative movemnt started in Rochdale
wish I had done some research before the day trip
I enjoyed your film.

@T3chnoJunk13 The 100 gives you a few more options and extended zoom range, the sensor is the same I believe.
It was just a day trip, hope to explore more out and about in a future shoot.
Ahh I -3 this place, thanks for the upload
I was born in Rochdale, and I have the Sony camera you have used.
I was born in Rochdale I hate that place
@Saki666Dark Many thanks, appreciate your feedback.
I lived in Rochdale from 1947 to 1952

Rochdale is a good town to go too
You drunk
Rochdale town hall is regarded as one of Europe’s best civic buildings. It is a diamond stuck in a turd unfortunately.
Rochdale town centre!
Why just the town centre. Rochdale has a lot more to offer
Greed is ruining this world.
ROCHDALESTAN.
