  • Finally got around to taking my old engine apart to see what it looked like. Enjoy the carnage. Building it later on.

      Yeah it takes a supercharged 32 valve v8 to beat a na ls1 well except the corvette lol

      Corey Burns Standard cobra 03/04 heads flow more than 241s and here in aus were we only have 5.4s that's not the case. Any you can make a lawnmower haul ass with forced. Its another debate. Nre make their 5.4 dev 1500hp.
      Besides we don't even need a ford v8 here to beat an ls , our 4l six turbos detroy ls every day. Google 4l barra 2000hp running 4.7et. Saying that i agree the ls are a great engine.

    good video my brother ,,i got 2004 maruader 112,000 miles on it..eventually im gonna have do my engine it has that rattle sound only when u frist start it up for about few seconds then it goes away..maybe timming chain tensioner latting the chain slap to the oil fill them or hydraullio cylinder in the tensionerare alittle worn

    She got Hot, many of these motors are hurt from running lean or low oil pressure.
    I have two cores in my garage awaiting rebuild this summer.

      Evan Paul Smith Falcon Fogolin that and the fact that the driver side head is a “dead head” coolant can’t leave the rear of the head and causing temps to get high and valves start destroying the seats. Need to put the mod on to let coolant out the freeze plug and to the other head

      @@mikebing1230 I believe Livernois solution to be the best, I would look into their method before making your choice.
      despite having a set of DC heads I am going to use their method.
      basically routes the oil down to the pan as not to create any Windage from other methods.
      I am considering a mechanical oil pump, and dual pump return style fuel system.

      amazon sells a lock out kit for 2v/4v. it significantly helps timing the 4v motor. no need for setting up marks on the crank unless you have aftermarket cams.

      Thanks! I looked up that tool and I am going to buy that and along with a few other tools to work on mod motors. I miss the old pushrod 5.0 engines. Timing the 5.0 was cake! I guess once I do it a few times, timing a 4v engine will be cake too!

      rashad smith nah we haven't done much if anything to the cobra in awhile. it's just been sitting. we sadly lost the footage if use putting the engine in.

    My 04 has a blown motor from overheating. Im not sure what happened really because I wasn't driving. Does anyone know a good place in California that rebuilds these? Local shops scare me.

    Quick question. At about 2:44 and 2:55 why does the guy hold the cam?

      I'm guessing so the cam wouldn't spin when he took the timing chain off. If the cam snaps around from the valve spring tension, you can knock a piston with a valve.

      Jesse Cox No I mean those modern type Chevrolet LS series engines that are a common engine among engine swapping in pretty much anything.

      +Pasta Sarmonella E-Specialé haha I know. I was joking about how the LS design is essentially ford's 351w. but yes if you want more cubic inches ford's GT500 5.8l 351ci is the biggest DOHC 4v currently. virtually impossible to put onto ls block though.

      impossible. although the LS uses ford style 10 bolt heads the LS heads a longer. the LS uses so many 302, 351, 427CJ, design aspects that no wonder they made it to preform against the mod motor when their old tech 350 wasn't performing.

      Skrix Fox nope wasn't NOS, ran super hot due to the intercooler pump going out during a WOT pull for awhile, didn't hear the pre Det that was going on, so ran super hot, on top of being lean will destroy a engine just as much as NOS would.

      09victoryrc fairly similar. but the Coyote has very few compatible parts.

      Jesse Cox It looks similar I think the coyote is aluminum and I noticed it doesn't have the same variable valve timing, I just saw the photos at the end of the video, looks like he has some hairline cracks in the cylinder heads.

    So it looks like DOHC really aren’t that complex? I don’t see the big deal here. I’m constantly battling between GM and ford and this is why. Their v8s. Can someone bust a myth for me and explain why?

      The DOHC can usually spin faster and the 4 Valves make the heads flow very well, thats why these engines make hp per cubic inch than GM Pushrod counterparts. The honest truth is the Modular engine is more modern technology and innovative than the older tech/design of the LS/GM engines.

      Jesse Cox what about it being “so hard to work on”? Compared to pushrod engines. I mean why does NASCAR, NHRA, Monster Trucks still use them? Can’t wrap my head around it lol.

    2003 cobra 4.6L? Are y’all joking? The cobra motors (supercharged or not) are 5.0s and up

      Teej Daniel Helme 98, 00, 01, 03, & 04 cobras were all 4.6L DOHC engines. In fact there is no 5.0 Cobra. The GT500 has 5.4 or 5.8 depending on the year. GT350 is 5.2. Google it.

      93-95 cobras had the 5.0l...96,97,98,99,01,(02),03,04 cobras had the 32v 4.6l..00,07-12 had 5.4l...13, 14 had the 5.8l.
