I rarely (if ever) comment on things like this but you have just ended my two day long attempt to repair my washer AND you have saved me a service call! I simply unplugged the washer, took the front off, felt under the belt for the spot where it was rubbing, pushed the tub to one side and pounded out the dent with a hammer. I have watched countless videos on this subject over the last two days and finally yours is the one that did the trick. Thank you so much for sharing this very handy tip!

This is exactly the problem I'm having, metal on metal rubbing just where you indicated. Gonna go fix it right now. The mechanics of my washer looks exactly like yours.
    THANK YOU!

Wow great video! Had sold my washer that was working great and the people complained so I gave them the money back. Got home and plugged the machine in and heard a grinding noise. Couldn't figure it out but then saw your video. Found that the aluminum base was bent up so I bent it back down and now no noise! You're a life saver- subscribing to your channel thanks a bunch

Thank you!!! I pressed against the pan with the opposite end of the broom. It created enough clearance to stop the scratching noise

I had the same problem. if you purchased a display or you had movers moved it with a handtruck. These dents will happen. It took me awhile to figure it out. I saw alot of metal shavings thinking its the suspension rods were bad. Swapped them out still the same. Turned out it was the bent sheet metal on the bottom.

Excellent! I think the suspension springs have weakened with age on mine. It scraped the bottom so much it scraped a hole in it! I was trying to find a way to shorten or shim-up the suspension rods, but this was so much easier!

Thank you so so very much for this video!! I have this exact washer and was getting a grinding scraping noise during agitation, after popping the front panel off I see that I have the same exact issue. Trying this fix right now. Thanks man.
EDIT: Literally took 5 minutes to push the bottom back down. I used my foot to gently push it down and my washer is now whisper quiet while agitating. You saved me, thanks a million.

I have the EXACT same model; GTWP1800D2WW that is shown in this video. Making a real bad grinding, scraping noise as if it were grinding against the actual metal or gears being stripped or something. Took of the front panel with a flat tip, took a page out of ol' Steven Bibian's book and used the opposite end of a broom to apply pressure on both sides of the metal flooring below the barrel and....VOILA! Ran a test cycle with the front panel off to make sure I created enough clearance between the pulley and the metal flooring and no more horrible metal digging, grinding, scratching noise. I was very close to calling GE today to schedule for repairs but after watching this video and reading the users' comments below, this video is the truth, ya heard me? ; ) Thank you so much for saving us loot over something that we can do OURSELVES.

The bottom of the wash machine being dented in is caused by hand trucks which are used by movers to transport the washing machine..... the bottom tongue of the hand truck which holds the machine ends up pushing into the bottom of the machine causing it to dent in.
My washing machine I have had for 7 years. And it did not start making a scraping or scratching noise until right after I moved into my new place. And that was the culprit.

Damnit it looks like I may have done this to my washer yesterday when moving it to my house. I got this from a family member who told me that it's working good and I used a uhaul and a dolly to get it up my front steps smh. It's gonna suck having to do this but at least I know why now.
      Thanks!!!

after few years suspension rods sag and it will hit the bottom. What I did instead of buying 4 rods 20 dollars each I made a spacer half inch and slide inside blue and red housing in effect compressed the spring and lifted the whole unit up.There are two mental tabs bottom of the engine you can also place plywood 1/4 thick and that will insure in case rods sag too much the plywood will hold the unit up.This is obviously designed to fail rods sagging etc the old units didn't have these stupid things and why they last 15-20 or more years. If you buy top loader now huge chance all of them have these stupid suspension rods.I advise buying older unit on used market.Analog dials 1HP engine and will last many many years.

Thats the air line for the fill switch - it tells the fill valve when to when to shut off. Unhook it and clean it out or your washer will overfill and flood when it finally gets so cruddy that air cant get through.

They're making these washers cheesier and cheesier. Now they got computers in them. I have a old Meg tag 1968 at my vacation home and it still works today. These new ones you're lucky to have them 4 years without something breaking. Whirlpool washers the parts in it are made in China. Now I think it's starting to change parts are starting to be made in America thank you President Trump.
