- We're capping off the new year by breaking out a new design and looking over the highlights of a recent Twitch stream where we covered 70 years worth of Godzilla designs! From 1954 to 2024, which one will reign supreme?
Probably not a good number of the Showa designs.

1 thing I’ve come to recently notice. The final Wars suit looks like an updated Raids Again suit. Interesting IMO 🤔

Fitting for the 50th anniversary suit in a movie all about crazy monster fights to hearken back to the first "vs" suit design!
Hate me for this if you want but I rlly love the legendary designs. It’s something about that realistic reptilian crocodilian look that I really enjoy. I do hope eventually they give him that white tipped dorsal plate look with a white atomic breath I think that would be bad ass.
Yeah, I certainly wouldn’t mind them going to the original or Kiryu Saga Goji for visual inspiration! Maybe even the concept Final Wars design to “course correct”, depending on how people respond after GxK
Btw they did explain why gxk Godzilla is slimed down it’s cuz he had to evolve or something like that
Ah, yeah I kinda gleaned that from the weird “skin peeling” toy they have coming out. I guess I was just being cynical and expecting an MCU level throwaway joke lol
The lead artist confirmed that godzilla's evolution burned through his energy reserves, which slimmed him down. And that his evolution is only halfway complete

Like I said, only reason Megaguirus Godzilla was that low was because of the “duplicate rule”. I do still really like the 2000 design, especially thanks to the Pipeworks games!
I just thought certain choices were a bit over the top/done better with KiryuGoji.

I expect Godzilla to be either lean but very ripped like Final Wars Godzilla or looking like a body builder like Earth Godzilla. And I do expect Godzilla’s spines in general to be not too big and not too small just like both Final Wars and Earth.
Also the reason why I don’t like the monsterverse Godzilla designs at all is really because nothing about them screams to me “Godzilla”, except for the spines that’s it, but other than that, they just look like a horrible mess to me.
Also I honestly like the 1998 design simply cause it looks like a dinosaur. I love dinosaurs
Honestly I don't hate any particular design of Godzilla the only ones that I even remotely dislike are either from the showa or from the 1998 American reboot and even then both of those designs got fixed down the road
As for favorites most of my favorite designs just follow the traditional Godzilla look such as -1 or Heisei Godzilla
So I have a few exceptions for shin Godzilla Godzilla ultima Godzilla Earth and specific variations of legendary Godzilla
Though if we bring baby Godzilla's into the mix Manila and Hanna-Barbera Garzooki r2 that I genuinely dislike and even hate but not to an extent that I would completely erase them from history because I think the ideas behind their design have potential just the design they used in specific was horrible

Godzilla Minus One is the most menacing by far
Imo the best gojis design is 1999-2000 and 2001& 1954 and 1962 and 2014. And minus ones and shin gojis.
The only real thing rhat bothers me about minus ones design is it looks like it has eyebrows in some shots and it bothers me more than it should

1998 godizla to me is just the first incarniation of this version, it is a mutataed animal after all ,im sure over time if the movies got a sequal the real huge godzila would come out
All legendary goji design is SS+ tier specially the GvK, is the most perfect realistic design ever to grace on the big screen

I like both minus one and legendary, I might be a bit biased towards minus one because I enjoyed the movie more than any of the legendary ones, but they’re both good.

For me, I feel like it succeeds where Earth failed to make it look more “thoughtful”. I love the green eyes and the dark scales combined with blue dorsal plates/spikes to make him pop.
I’d say A tier for that one, for sure. Maybe even bottom of S tier.
Godzilland Godzilla deserves C tier, nothing more. I’m being too nice, D tier.

the ‘98 is a good design for a monster, not Godzilla.

Have you never watched a Godzilla movie??? How were you surprised by the Ebirah suit? And a shot in Destroy All Monsters and you say the suit is falling apart??? While that’s a criticism that suit gets its after 4 movies and 4 years later in Godzilla vs. Gigan. The suit was brand new in DAM. Then you place the Megalon suit thinking it’s the AMA suit? Man.
Your ranking of these designs is really stupid. You really just seemed to be randomly putting designs in tiers with some horrible explanation behind it. You put some of the best Godzilla designs ever in tiers like C and D. Like bro, the new GxK Godzilla looks epic, I love the sleek new look and I love how the crystalline dorsal plates run to the eyes. You sir, are a pillock.
