We are looking to upgrade our a6400 since it doesn’t have ibis alot of the hand footage is just too shakey and hope that upgrading to an ibis camera will help hand held footage drastically look better. I’d say we are 50/50, 70/30 video to photo use. Out of these 3 which would you lean more towards A6700, fx30, a74
If you're invested in APS-C lenses that would be one reason to stay clear of the a7IV. If you're happy with the image quality from your a6400 for stills, another reason you won't need the a7IV. If you travel with your gear, that is another reason to stay clear of full-frame. If you'll ever need a flash, bulb mode, mechanical shutter or an EVF then say no to the FX30. If you need to record long form video in the sun (even 24fps) then you'll eventually run into problems with the a6700. If you'd like two card slots then of course no a6700. I know I could probably get away with my a6700 for everything, although for paid work I'm still usually using my FX30 (even for photos). I really missed not having an EVF for photos, so it's a pleasure having that in the a6700.
The test scenes looked better with more in focus, so I preferred the images coming from the a6700 side. 🙃 Full frame might've won if it was stopped down to match though.
Would you recommend this camera to a stills shooter? I do full time headshots and portraits and I want something light and fast, currently shooting FUJI XT5 but thinking of jumping. What lenses would you recommend to rival a 50mm and 85mm equivalent? And a 35? I’m seriously thinking of switching from Fuji to Sony (XT5 to A6700). I use the Fuji 56, 33 and 23 (85, 50 and 35 equivalents). What 3 Sony lenses would give me those focal lengths? Am I crazy to think the Sony A6700 could rival the XT5 or would you say it might? How is the EVF on the A6700? I should add that I’m 53, and have a bad back. lol. Light gear is ESSENTIAL to my livelihood.
A7 IV had nicer detail/ colour range and blur in almost all photos, gave a nicer balanced image. Clear winner for me there! A6700 is good if you like taking videos, but for photos A7 IV is still a winner, is the subtle difference worth the huge price of the lenses though? Probably not for most people.
The one thing I never knew about apsc lens is that you also have to do the 1.5x with the aperture max I.e. if you have a 1.8f on apsc you’re really getting a 2.7 aperture 😮😮
Somehow I find it awesome and practical for you to have something recorded months ago and "just need to edit" while still having enough videos to upload in the pipeline :) Awesome job as always! Regarding the topic I have the feeling this APS-C and full frame discussion is only relevant, when you talk about low light or bad lighting conditions. It's in such environments, where full frame can really play its advantage. You are more flexible with full frame and can push the image a bit more. In good lighting condition, it really doesn't matter which camera you pick. Every camera nowadays has excelent image quality. Sure you could argue full frame can provide more bokeh, but companies like Viltrox are building excellent fast APS-C lenses which can rival full frame bokeh. And if I'm honest, I also like the fast F stop on every lens and bokeh is always great, but yesterday I watched a lens review / vlog where the guy had to shoot at F22 since it always sunny outside and no ND filter available - me as a viewer didn't care less about the bokeh missing xD
Yea true, ff is better in lower light scenarios hands down. But I always record at least 2-3 videos at time. So I usually have a little backlog of videos to edit. I think I have like 4 now 🤪
depending on what you shoot, there is isn't even a low light advantage. Say if you're photographing groups of people and want them all in focus, you would have to step down to get a deeper depth of field like on APSC. You'd loose your low light advantage
nice coment, bro. about Viltrox, it's 100% true. i have a A6500 with 2 Viltrox Lenses (33mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8) and i've done awesomes photos with this two. i'm videographer and videomaker. my thought it's about a hybrid camera that makes more sense to upgrade my old a6500.
the inexpensive APSC lenses are certainly tempting. The a6700 is great, but the full frame sensor crushes..especially when you use it everyday, 100k+images the difference at times is not always there, but you'll see it over the long run
What if someone just wants to take great, detailed stills with good colors while having a compact camera and later add a macro lens? Is 6700 good or should one go for A7C for example? They're very close in price.
I have both, I shoot mostly sports and the A7iv AF is absolutely unreliable for runners when the weather is not bright sunlight. Hoped for improvement from the A6700, it's there but it's minimal. The EVF is worse, images are noisier, automatic white balance is tremendously improved. If I should keep only one, it would be the A6700, but both wiĺl go when a reasonably priced body with reliable AF is available.
@@timothysteenwyk2978 The A7cii has no full mechanical shutter, it can only shoot first curtain electronic. It is said to degrade bokeh with long focal lenses at high speed, exactly what is used for sports. Besides the sensor is still very slow, so I doubt AF precision can be there. I believe that a fast sensor, at least like R8/R6 or stacked, is required.
It is very easy to tell which is full frame if you are not compensating for the crop. If image quality is the ultimate deciding factor for you, then GO FULL FRAME 100% OF THE TIME. Crop sensor cameras will always look less good compared to full frame in terms of details, highlight roll off, noise, DOF etc. I was hoping for more handling and professional use inputs (audio) from this video.
@@thaticelandicguy IMO you should talk about the 1080p quality (very useful for social, 16:9 is killing on IG) and show some colour adjustments. Also, when you put in that bit talking about having more time with the cameras - I thought "okay here's what I wanted" then heard about more image talk. Real let down moment.
@THAT ICELANDIC GUY. hi, my name is Karissa. I'm 17yo from Indonesia. I wanna ask you a question that might be worth a content for your channel. let me explain this first I'm new in videography world but i love to make films or short videos, but i have only Fujifilm X-T1 in my possesion which is not the right or ideal camera for videography. Certaintly i need to upgrade my gear, but my question is do i really need a full frame camera? while the only platform i choose to show my works is youtube. If you can respon to my question Thank🙏🏼you very much.
No I don’t think you need full frame. The first 5 years if me creating content and the first 300+ videos I made here were all shot on a budget old Sony apsc camera. Just use what ever you have and don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise ☺️
Bought the a7cii, ( my fault for not realising) but not a single zoom in the range of 16-55/16-50mm, and I can only afford one lens, since I do all types of photography, one lens is no use to me, so sending it back and sacrificing image quality a bit and going with the a6700 and, sony 16-55mm 2.8 g
I can see the difference, although I wouldn't argue one was 'better' than the other, just different looks. I prefer the full-frame, which is a shame as I like the idea of a cheaper, lighter camera.
Great video and really useful. The only noticeable difference between the comparison photos was a couple where the shallower depth of field gave away that it was the full frame camera. Other than that was zero noticeable difference which shows that people should try not to fall for the hype of full frame - unless they like paying over the odds for a camera and lenses and needing a pack horse to carry the massive full frame lenses 🙂
Good review. I only do photography and already have several lenses for my a6400. While I've been a little torn with going FF I really don't think it's worth the cost with the very minor noticeable difference between the 6700 and a FF. I've pretty much made up my mind to just upgrade to the 6700 and sell my 6400 to recover a bit of the cost that way I don't need new lenses (yes I know I can use my lenses on a FF camera). If I was going to do video or only or primarily do night photography then I would jump to FF.
Hello from Finland and a great comparison! I have been playing with these Sony cameras for an long time. For travelling these 6xxx models are a better choice and the difference in image quality is negligible. Quality lenses are also more affordable. However, I´m also very fond of old manual legacy lenses, therefore the full frame sensor is the right format.
I´m all for Olympus Zuiko lenses. They have a "modern" color cast, usually very sharp and the biggest advantage is that they are small. Modern autofocus lenses are sometimes too big when you travel.@@thaticelandicguy
@@peter_streng I've been adapting Zuiko and Rokkor lenses since the NEX 5. I was using them on my a7III and a7C, now I'm using them on APS-C cameras again.
@@DDHDTV How compact they are together, if it's a great combination for beginner photography and film making and if the quality of a ten year old lens pairs well with the brand new camera because I want to purchase these as both my first body and lens and prefer knowing the pairing works well together. 🙏👀
i was able to see some difference in dynamic range and DoF, i will say though, the sony files from the a6400 onward have such a smooth rolloff in highlights you can fake the dynamic range of the fullframe sensor in editing usually
Having switched from APS-C to full frame myself the differences in the comparison shots were pretty obvious to me because I was comparing the shots from the Nikon Z50 to the Nikon Z7 II I use now 🙂 Especially the first one gave it away. Same field of view, shallower depth of field on the left resulting from using the same focal length at a shorter distance. ...At least I assume you used the same lens and aperture, otherwise you can feel free to ignore me 🤪 But I think there were some very subtle differences in the dynamic range. On the full frame body you have just ever so slightly more details in the sky and the shadows. But it really is subtle and it might as well just be the look of that sensor. Personally I did notice a pretty solid bump in dynamic range when I made the switch myself. For example, shooting in bright sunlight isn't nearly as tough anymore.
I just got the A6700 coming from a ZV-E10 and I still can't wrap my head around everything it does 😅 I doubt I'll use it to it's full potential like ever
Yeap, that can be good first camera. I use A6400, and I don't think I will find a place for it, it's time for A7CII at least. I found too much of limitations in APS-C sensors with slower apertures (like using f6.3 in forest or early-late day time)
How do they compliment each other? So like your most serious weekend photographers or maybe pros and you are covering a range of capability for fun or work. Which pair of cameras keeps you light and capable in producing fun or professional content with ease and quality? Big question yes, but in the end, we all want to have fun.
I love full Frame and the price and weight of apsc glass. So I went with 2 A7IV bodies. But then again I own full frame and crop glass. The apsc is awesome fir travel and 4K 60 video
If your budget is high and money is no problem got with both, if you have medium budget go with a7iv……..if budget is too low and you still want good camera go with a6700(lens are cheaper)
But I just bought the A7iv 😍😍 and just use the 4K 50fps when it’s needed otherwise I’m shooting most of the time on 25fps. I think people should know the limitations of their gear and figure out what they can do to surpass the negatives .🎞️ ❤
24 - 26 Mp is enough for A1 Size Prints and whether you capture photos on 50mp or 160mp you gonna upload on IG at 1 - 2 MP only and for video purpose these expensive cameras are good
If i would have been not in India i would definitely go for A700 But due to i am a Citizen of India people here thinks that larger camera or longer camera gives larger Quality so i should go for Sony A7 IV
I saw the differences, A6700 has the new BionzXR Processor and the colours are better. I can't see any differences about dynamic range. It's very similar. APS-C should be worse on that but no, it's not clearly visible. Im clearly hesitating to buy this A6700. I'm hesitating with the A7CII but the full frame lenses are too big and heavy. I would like better low light performances than my actual A6500 but i will probably invest in very fast aperture lenses like the new SIRUI Sniper lenses.
@@saturn_fpv Hello, I bought the A6700 because it's smaller and lighter. I wanted to avoid carrying heavy stuff. It's a nice upgrade. Colours, sharpness and dynamic range are better, AI focus, BULB timer and a lot of new functions. EVF is better but worse than A7IV. The battery life is much better. I bought two batteries and I use only the second battery when I forget to charge the first one. I have noticed that the screen is not visible in portrait mode when we're wearing polarised glasses. Burst mode is curiously more bad with smaller buffer. About 50 images RAW and for the A6500 about 100 images in RAW+JPG. I didn't tried the A7CII, so I can't compare. A friend bought it and he confirmed that the image quality is better. But, you spend 2x more money in a full frame camera that it's 2x heavier and the image quality is not 2x better, maybe just 15-20%. It's very important to buy quality lenses. I shot now with the Sony 16-55 f2.8 and I noticed that the quality is much better than the old 16-70 f4.
@@saturn_fpv You're welcome. I'm not a big user of video mode but compared to the A6500 the A6700 is better in low light situations but only in video mode. In photo mode, the A6700 is the same of the A6500 or 1-2% more bad if I thrust DPReview.
0:53 hahaha 😂 Still can’t decide whether I should buy a7 IV or the a7R V for portraits and landscape. But that extra EUR 1,350 for the a7R V is noticeable 😅
I've honestly never tried it. But I owned the a6400 and used it a whole lot and I really liked that camera. The A6600 is the same camera (sesor wise) just has a better battery and Ibis. So I think it's probably pretty good :)
How is using A6700 or A7CII / A7IV in rain or snow situations. Let's be honest autumn can be rainy, as winter can be snowy. What if rain/snow drops 24/7. Would you use any of these cameras in that situation or you recommend using any cover? (Either way, could you recommend some good covers though? 😅😅) PS: 3:49 - I thought right side was A7IV!!! Holly crap.. These colours are A LOT better and even like dynamic range and sharpness looked like higher. I don't know.. Can't be serious..😂
That was right, the a6700 is a great camera :) The a74 should be a bit better for photo and I still like the FF look a lot. I'm pretty yolo with my gear and you shouldn't take advice from me about rain covers lol. However my friend showed me one thing that was awesome. You know that plastic bag thingy that grandmas use in the shower to cover their hair so it won't get wet? Since it has an elastic band around it then it's great. Cut a hole in the middle and your good :)
@@thaticelandicguy I'd like to be yolo with the gear too! 😂😂 Maybe one day...? Thank you for an idea. I bought some cheap plastic covers but they are XXL size, and they fit like 200-600 mm only LOL... maybe even too big for that...
I brought A6700 to Hokkaido (the coldest part of Japan) last December and it was quite snowy on some days and I was not too shy to use it at all on those days. It's 12-day trip and over half of the trip I got snow all the time. Now it's May 2024 the caemra still rocks with 0 issue.
This is an apple to orange review. Why not throw a banana into the mix, the FX-30, the cine camera with a fan. This review is incomplete as you cover stills and video. So, it is important to talk about long time video recording and heat. Confusion comes into play when you exclude one camera that really can seal the deal for someone who is new to the photography. The Sony camera lineup is a buffet, with different cameras for different uses for different environments, etc. So. think about where the cameras are going to be used. There are so many variables that it is almost impossible to say which camera is the best. Hiking to some place that is full of landscape imagery vs a party vs street photography vs portraits vs client videos vs weddings vs family picture etc. should define the camera(s) to be used. See how only highlighting two cameras doesn't complete the discussion!!!!!!! I watch a lot of videos and see the variety of uses for cameras and the variety of cameras suited for those purposes. Being on Iceland doing Iceland photography is very different from the streets of New York, San Francisco and Miami. Hope your understand. Gee, picking a camera for those film SLR camera days was easy. We just looked for the brand we wanted and be done with it.
I feel you man. It is like apple vs oranges. I mean these are two completley different sensor. You have to agree though that it would be hard for me to cover every need every user that might look at this video might possibly have? But I get you I'll try to do better in the future for sure

Very helpful! Thank you Arnulfur! Good luck man!
Only in terms of depth of field though, you don’t get extra stops of light.
Aperture doesn't change. 1.8 is just that on all formats. The equivalent depth of field is the only change.
I won 2 prizes woo-hoo but I had to pause the photos
Is the Sony a6700 better than the Sony a7iv in terms of image quality and autofocus. I already have a Sony a7lll
A6700 way better than a7iii for sure, but not better than a7iv, a6700 is a7iv for price
Please tell me witch lens you use in a6700 when you compare?
Sony 16-55 2.8 ☺️
I think I have like 4 now 🤪
@@thaticelandicguy damn at some point I have to get at that level to have a back log and therefore a safety net for regular uploads 😀
depending on what you shoot, there is isn't even a low light advantage.
I bet not carrying my full-frame crap anymore, and enjoying myself again will improve my images more than a sensor.
@@chosenideahandle no because I can carry all 6 of my lenses and my laptop in a bag under 18lbs like yes please
I’ve used a6500 everyday and it’s powerful without failure. Got the a6700 and it’s a beast. But I’m curious on the full frame, thinking of the a7iv
What if someone just wants to take great, detailed stills with good colors while having a compact camera and later add a macro lens? Is 6700 good or should one go for A7C for example? They're very close in price.
Hey , im using a6700 but the high iso kinda suck, should i upgrade to a7iv ( im not professional one , just travel and people shooting )
A7cii may be what you’re looking for?
@@timothysteenwyk2978 The A7cii has no full mechanical shutter, it can only shoot first curtain electronic. It is said to degrade bokeh with long focal lenses at high speed, exactly what is used for sports. Besides the sensor is still very slow, so I doubt AF precision can be there. I believe that a fast sensor, at least like R8/R6 or stacked, is required.
ZVE1 has the best auto focus from Sony. Get the third-party cage and fan combo for $160 and rock out.
Thanks for the feedback I will include that in future comparisons videos 😊
@@thaticelandicguy thank you so much. Hearing this from a senior YT CC gave me a solid reason.
Does anyone know what cameras have the AI focus that’s in the a6700 or better? It’s so good I want a FF but only if it matches it/is better
Zve1 has it ☺️ and maybe a7cii?
So can I put an apsc e mount lens on full frame?
Yea 🙌🏻
which is the best for streaming ?
can you hit 1/8000s SS in first curtain shutter with a6700?
I noticed the difference in the photos because of the extremely accurate focus on the subject of the photo. The quality of the A6700 is impressive!
Totally agree! Btw what legacy lenses do you like the most if you had to pick a few?
I´m all for Olympus Zuiko lenses. They have a "modern" color cast, usually very sharp and the biggest advantage is that they are small. Modern autofocus lenses are sometimes too big when you travel.@@thaticelandicguy
@@peter_streng I've been adapting Zuiko and Rokkor lenses since the NEX 5. I was using them on my a7III and a7C, now I'm using them on APS-C cameras again.
What about sony a6700 vs A7c2?
Can you please make a video pairing the sony a6700 with the 18-105mm f4 G OSS lens please 🙏🙏 it doesn't need to be a very long video.
Maybe maybe 👀
@@thaticelandicguy thank you, I'd really appreciate if
@@thaticelandicguyPlease make a video on this topic. I really wanna know.
what exactly do you want to know about that combination
@@DDHDTV How compact they are together, if it's a great combination for beginner photography and film making and if the quality of a ten year old lens pairs well with the brand new camera because I want to purchase these as both my first body and lens and prefer knowing the pairing works well together. 🙏👀
i was able to see some difference in dynamic range and DoF, i will say though, the sony files from the a6400 onward have such a smooth rolloff in highlights you can fake the dynamic range of the fullframe sensor in editing usually
Having switched from APS-C to full frame myself the differences in the comparison shots were pretty obvious to me because I was comparing the shots from the Nikon Z50 to the Nikon Z7 II I use now 🙂
Especially the first one gave it away. Same field of view, shallower depth of field on the left resulting from using the same focal length at a shorter distance.
...At least I assume you used the same lens and aperture, otherwise you can feel free to ignore me 🤪
But I think there were some very subtle differences in the dynamic range.
You’ll figure it out ☺️ congratulations on the upgrade!
I Broughted a6700 Camera. Its great camera. Love it.Worth of money
I've got the A6700 as my first camera ever and it's really a tiny beast
Yeap, that can be good first camera. I use A6400, and I don't think I will find a place for it, it's time for A7CII at least. I found too much of limitations in APS-C sensors with slower apertures (like using f6.3 in forest or early-late day time)
yea it's a great little beast :)
It's a good first camera, middle camera or last camera.
Well thank you, I bought the 6700 yesterday and am I looking forward to using it, as opposed to my 6100 which has served me well :-)
Valuable Time for a Valuable Review 😎 10/10 👍
Thanks g!
How do they compliment each other? So like your most serious weekend photographers or maybe pros and you are covering a range of capability for fun or work. Which pair of cameras keeps you light and capable in producing fun or professional content with ease and quality? Big question yes, but in the end, we all want to have fun.
I’ve been shooting with crop sensor all my life I know my next Sony camera will be a full-frame. 😊
Let’s go 🔥
the Feeling of the Fullframe is notice crop it like a phone feelings
I love full Frame and the price and weight of apsc glass. So I went with 2 A7IV bodies. But then again I own full frame and crop glass. The apsc is awesome fir travel and 4K 60 video
Great job on the video! Thanks for making it.
Agree ❤️❤️❤️
great feature NOT from Sony but from TH-cam, when ever you said press Like Button of this Video at 4:00 and LIKE BUTTON acutally GLOW up. Just WOW.
Yea that feature is magic 😂
Well explained!
Thanks king!
Nice one. Please make a comparison between a6700 and zve10 😅
Thank you! There’s really nothing to compare there 😅 a6700 is better en every aspect
@@thaticelandicguy what about footage quality?
24 - 26 Mp is enough for A1 Size Prints and whether you capture photos on 50mp or 160mp you gonna upload on IG at 1 - 2 MP only and for video purpose these expensive cameras are good
GREAT VIDEO!!! THANK YOU!!!
Glad you liked it!
Sony a6700 vs Canon r8?
Never tried the canon unfortunately
Unfair comparison! Should have been a6700 and a7CII
I'm here with a6500 as well and thinking... did you make a choice and how is it?
@HBZERaviation wow thanks for quick and detailed response! Any thoughts of low light improvements over a6500 in video?
@@saturn_fpv You're welcome. I'm not a big user of video mode but compared to the A6500 the A6700 is better in low light situations but only in video mode. In photo mode, the A6700 is the same of the A6500 or 1-2% more bad if I thrust DPReview.
0:53 hahaha 😂
Still can’t decide whether I should buy a7 IV or the a7R V for portraits and landscape. But that extra EUR 1,350 for the a7R V is noticeable 😅
00:40 😂❤
😂
I have both
What are your thoughts on the Sony A6600?
I've honestly never tried it. But I owned the a6400 and used it a whole lot and I really liked that camera. The A6600 is the same camera (sesor wise) just has a better battery and Ibis. So I think it's probably pretty good :)
The full frame is better, always
a7iv densest have ai nore firmware updates ugh
How is using A6700 or A7CII / A7IV in rain or snow situations. Let's be honest autumn can be rainy, as winter can be snowy. What if rain/snow drops 24/7. Would you use any of these cameras in that situation or you recommend using any cover? (Either way, could you recommend some good covers though? 😅😅)
PS: 3:49 - I thought right side was A7IV!!!
You need to put the name of camera not 1 or 2
No. That defeats the whole purpose of his video.
Hey brother hope you're okay and atleast getting some good earthquake photos or footage !!!!!🎉
Im on a74… but my wallet says otherwise 😂
😂
Great vid. Although, small gripe. No camera has AI in. That's just marketing fluff 😂
Probably some gimmicks 😂
Btw all gripes welcome here 😂
This is an apple to orange review.
Why are you so upset?
I feel you man. It is like apple vs oranges. I mean these are two completley different sensor. You have to agree though that it would be hard for me to cover every need every user that might look at this video might possibly have? But I get you I'll try to do better in the future for sure
You did well :) @@thaticelandicguy
