Minor corrections: the Z6 III does 1 second pre-capture up to 120fps in jpg only with the same caveats as C120 (dx/11mp), but can also capture full res jpgs up to 60fps pre-capture with C60. Also, the a7 IV does have a variable shutter, although it's basically unusable with it's electronic shutter.

They need to make it a stacked BSI sensor for sure. Full HDMI, and better video options. The fact that they have no All Intra is a head scratcher. I know I’m missing many more other things they can add or change for the price point, but those are what came to mind.

    For the checkmarks tally
    Nikon Z6 III: 7.75
    Canon R6 Mark II: 2.5
    Sony a7 IV: -8732.5
A little low for the Sony but the Z6 III being about 3 times as good as the R6 Mark II seems right.

Nikon Z mount has the largest diameter so you can adapt lenses from multiple other mounts, plus there other third party sellers from China. And then there’s the F mount Nikkor lenses.

I like the Nikon system for an enthusiast. Their 24-120 f4 and the s line of small f1.8 primes, are pretty hard to beat. Their high end stuff is top of the line also. Canon either has dinky cheap stuff or pro grade gear. Nothing in the middle with great optics.

    • @nickwilliams7867

Nikon lack of s-line 24 35 50 and 85 f1.4 lenses stopped me going Nikon. Yes they have lenses like the excellent 85 f1.2 but that thing is heavy at 1160g compared to both Sigmas excellent 85 f1.4 and Sony new 85 f1.4 both come in the 600-700 g range. Shooting all day with a 1.16KG lens is not my idea of fun. So for me up to 300mm Sony has the best glass but after 300mm I would give it to Nikon. Having said all that the Z8 is amazing value for money compared to Sonys A1 and A9III yes different cameras but they are all at the high end of the camera ranges.

I ordered my first A7iv right when it launched and got one of the first in Europe. Bought a second one in June last year to have to same bodies when shooting concert. Had awesome 2 1/2 years and about 100k shots on my first body, right at the 100k mark the shutter died. My other cam is at about 70k shots.
I think the A7iv is a great value, when you can get a good deal or even buy it used from a hobbyist with like 5k shots on it and have a solid camera for the next 5-10 years but for professional work it shows it’s age. 60FPS crop sucks when shooting wide angle, the readout speed is atrocious and shooting e-shutter isn’t an option at all (maybe when shooting landscape on a tripod to avoid shutter shock). The burst speed was bad compared to the R6 mark 1 which released more than a year earlier and it’s frustrating. Broad daylight compressed raw at 10fps is okay but as soon as it’s getting dark and you wanna recover the shadows I always go to the 6-7ish fps in lossless compressed raw.
Compared to the R6(ii) I prefer the 33mp. I can easily crop from horizontal to vertical in post (pls don’t kill me Jared) and still have 13.5mp (3000x4500px is my default export resolution for clients). And OMG I love full size HDMI. I cannot believe how many of these awful micro HDMI cables got bent in my life and the full size is just awesome. Shame on canon for having it only in the R5ii.
Yet the failure of a shutter at such a low shutter count and Sonys insanely bad customer support (spotted a dead pixel after 1 1/2 years of use and Sony refused to repair it, violating EU law) I‘m really tempted to switch to the canon R5ii

When the r6 came out o decided to see what was on the horizon with the a7iv, as the a7iii was long in the tooth. But when it finally came I was disappointed at its speed capabilities, as I was looking for an all around camera to balance speed and quality.
I held out and the r6ii came out which ticked the boxes, though I wish I could’ve afforded the r5, or now r5ii. But the r6ii has been amazing for me and I really like what the z6iii has to offer.

Waiting for Z6 IV will have full stacked and sensor shield. Can't believe the Sony and canon don't have a top info lcd screen like Z6III, that's a deal breaker at these price points . It's needed and is so useful .The Canon and Sony FF body offerings @24mp look dated. They are old now. Can Canon realise this to compete with Z6III and bring top info screen to canon R6III. Z6III FF body is way ahead and superior. Not everybody wants 40 fps and 45 mp files on the R5II. If Canon just bring out the same form factors in the next R6III it will be very disappointing and boring .Canon really need to lift their game with the R6MkIII. Nikon trumped Canon with dropping superior Z6III all its fancy tech and is highlighting their relatively newish offering, the 2 year old R6Mk II FF body obsolete in looks and tech. The customers are winning again in these camera wars . There is nothing as good at 24mp and the latest features offered on Nikon Z6III right now at the price point of 2500USD especially the Z6III partially stacked tech minimising electronic rolling shutter problems found on almost every single camera today except for a Nikon Z8-9 and the expensive Sony global shutter offering the a9III.

31:21 Jared's right and wrong at the same time, you gotta learn to you viewfinder, it's more stabilizing, when you shoot, but speaking of getting you composition right it's not that important to my mind. When I started my journey as a photographer my first camera was Canon 600D aka Rebel T3i, it had a flip screen, which really helped me when shooting dancing crowds in clubs and weddings from above with my height of 5' 7".
Altough I'm not a frequent smartphone shooter I would have used the screens on my 600D and 6D more often if they were at least half as fast as my R6. And I see no difference in composition.

In the end though on paper specs may seem significant but real world performance is extremely similar among these cameras. You can pretend Nikon has the best image quality of that Sony has terrible colors but if a decently skilled photographer took the same pictures with each and laid them out in front of even serious professionals few would accurately guess which camera captured what if the sample size were large enough to eliminate random guess success. That's the advantage Nikon has; their primes are Sony GM quality optics at 1/3rd or 1/4th the price. Great for video too. They have the best telephoto selection as well. Regardless, whatever you choose, they all have great glass and features. I simply pointed out Nikon's advantage in performance to price. One note, about redundancy for video, no camera has RAW redundant recording. Its still a shame that H.265 on the Z6 III doesn't have at least that, but no one every metions that no mirrorless consumer cameras have redundant RAW recording. Too much heat.

I'm worried (when looking what happend to the Z6 III), that today new cameras are as if designed specifically to enjoy TH-cam mega influencers (who are very often sports or birding oriented), rather than to enjoy the 99% of non-speedy-action photographers. 99% do stills or just moderately slow people / events and animals. Only 1% do baseball bats or golf clubs in full swing, just to show off nuances in bending there 😉

I get shots with my A9 and A1 I would never get with a DSLR or a A7 series cameras. Clients LOVE the silent shooting indoors when a shutter click is most noticeable. Be that durning a wedding service or whilst photographing a keynote speaker on stage at a conference. The silent shooting on the A7IV is almost unusable, so at the very least they need to improve that, not just for stills but also for video. I think your 99-1% is also way off. Birding is huge, I can't walk around my local wildlife park without seeing at least 4-5 people out enjoying their hobby. I am lucky to own a camera like an A1 and A9 but Sony's only stacked options are 6K well out of the reach of most people. Nikon and Canon Both have way cheaper options for those who want to shoot fast or silent. Not sure why you mentioned resolution, Sony is more than capable of making a stacked 33mp sensor, the A1 is 50mp. I know it's not your thing, or mine but Sony do need a cheaper option for fast moving action.
