NEW Volkswagen Polo GTI Review | Better than a i20N or Abarth?

- Small hot hatches are dying. Hyundai hasn't confirmed a next generation for the i20N and Abarth seem to be heading in an all-electric future. Does that mean that this could be your last chance to buy a pure petrol small hot hatch from VW? If yes, is it worth buying before it's too late?

This the type of reviews I like quick and to the point without the added unnecessary BS of other reviewers. Good Job Cam.
Thanks!!
Great car! Been my daily driver for last 6 months. Proper hot hatch size & handling with entertaining personality. Not N extreme but doesn’t need to be. Love the heritage GTI touches too especially the tartan. 👍👍 Great review too!
Nice to see new car reviews coming up
GTI its and always will be my favorite. Hatchback. Thank you for your excellent video. 🎉🎉 I am new here happy to find your Chanel
It's that excitement factor that I love too😊
Great review,...cheers for that.
Have been working towards a new Polo GTI for nearly a year now and about to take the plunge, was starting to question whether this was the right car for me but yeah getting near 50 years old I think it is sensible enough whilst still taking care of the mild mid life crisis Im having!!!
50 I’m 74 and have one on factory order can’t wait!
Good review! After my Cooper S started to break down every month, I got the Polo GTI and this dual personality is the best part. It really feels like a smaller Golf - it's well built, comfortable and has a lot of big car equipment. But then it also can be fun on a twisty road. Happy with mine
Classic Mini things. But glad to hear the Polo GTI suits ya!
Great Video, Can you do a review of the VW T cross?
Thanks! I've got one coming in the next week or so :) Stay tuned
Excellent review, loved it, and I love that this one is very user-friendly, although I'd choose my i20N cos it's more of a hottie ❤
Thank you!! For that extra driving engagement, I'd personally pick the i20N too
Would be interested to see a comparisson between this and the Cupra Leon V (base model, not the Golf GTI spec). I know the Polo GTI and the Leon V is a diffrent category but almost identical pricepoint. The Cupra seems to have more space and more premiumish feel interior but with a less tuned 140kW engine compared to this with 147kW on a slightly smaller and lighter body. I guess it all depends on your needs?
I've reviewed both separately. The Leon just feels a bit too big. That's great for long distance driving and interior space, but the Polo is far more fun on track and to drive on some twisty roads.
Good review but the loss of all the traditional switches and dials for A/C, infotainment etc is such a faff! Will stick with my VW CC
Thanks! Yeah it's a bit annoying when compared to traditional buttons. CC is so underrated!
How's it feel over speed bumps, car parks, etc? I'm looking for a replacement car for my wifes jazz. I drive a wrx, so power is a priority for me. Test drove a standard polo, golf, and impreza. Perhaps a look at mazda cx3 2.5 too.
It feels a little stiff, but it's the softest sprung compared to the Abarth and Hyundai. Standard Polo is nice, I'm about the test the Golf. Impreza is alright, but give you AWD which no other hatch in this segment does. CX-3 is great but doesn't really compare here. I'd recommend testing the Polo or the Golf if power is the priority.
Have my second polo GTI now, driving in Germany, Switzerland, Italy with so much fun. Abarth and Hyundai are no comparison or competition, don’t understand why people keep comparing these boring cars with this bad ass Polo
I'm sure the Polo is excellent for highway cruising, but when it comes to small hot hatches with 4 cylinders, you absolutely should cross shop with Abarth and Hyundai.
A very nice little hot hatch that's fun to drive yet civilised. If you are expecting Toyota levels of reliability, longevity and running costs best not buy this though.
Personally have heard good things about the Polo GTI, but yes, parts and labour can get expensive if things go wrong compared to a Japanese counterpart
Typical VW issues are: Leaking plastic water pump before 60K; weak under bonnet plastics, inlet valve carbonisation due to direct injection; cardboard like brakes requiring new rotors and pads every 40K or so at $1,600 a go; new timing belt at around 100K @ $2K, expensive servicing. It’s not terrible, but if you have owned a Corolla in the past you may be in for a shock.
Is the power less in Australia? In the uk the polo gti has 207bhp
Measured in mechanical horsepower, not bhp. But it's all the same output but just different ways to measure ofc
@ProductReviewCars ah right, thanks for clarifying man 💯
I belive it is less in Australia and also SA
This car or a Audi A1 40TFSI S Line
I have one on order 20 weeks and waiting patiently, polo gti now disappeared from VW website not good news.
😢
Did you order ed25
Would have loved one but unfortunately not enough funds!
This is out of topic but you should consider modeling as a side career ✅ So car reviewer/model
hahah thanks!
The seats look like grandma's tartan undies.
bruh
The normal gti 17 inch wheels look better on the polo 18s are too big
I tried both and agree! The 17 inch also give you a better ride quality.
LOL this car is bullshit😂
not a fan?
