  • I totally destroyed the stump jumper aka blade pan on our Brush Hog. Here's how you go about fixing it.

    I appreciate your video! Shows real life replacement. Not everybody is a mechanic and it takes a lot of problem solving and plenty of frustration to get these things done. Thanks for putting in the time!

    It is absolutely the most exhausting video I have ever seen. I literally feel your pain . Thanks for uploading. I am about to attempt this same job.

    For this project a large two jaw puller Easley take this apart, the torch method was ok but remember you got a seal on you transmission that probably was damaged on the heating proses.

    If you dont have tools or take care of your equipment, this is how these projects usually go

    Looking at that deck, I’m not surprised of the condition of that cutter. Looks like you’ve been mowing rocks. That output shaft is wobbly so I’d say your bearings are shot in that gearbox. I can only imagine what your tractor looks like.

      Not everyone is fortunate enough to be mowing baseball fields and golf courses 😉

    Use anti seize on that gearbox shaft, my friend you so need to buy an old boom pole for your tractor, do not want to get hurt flipping that cutter,
    I replaced the gearbox attachment bolts, spot welded the head of bolt to deck then reversed their direction so nut was on top, that way if they worked loose I could tighten them without taking stump jumper off,
    Be sure to use a grade 2 or 5 bolt in your sheer bolt, higher grade hardness bolt will cause destructive things to happen to cutter or tractor pto shaft,
    Stay safe,

    Hope you put a new seal in with that heat. The first try with the pry bar pressure you should have hit the blade mount with a 5lb hammer and off it comes no heat.

    When pulling the cotter pin, grab it with the pliers and love tap the pliers outward. That will help removing the pin easier

    Do you have any idea how much stress your're putting on your gearbox with your method?

    King cutter blades and what’s the brand of the stump jump plate? And part number?

    You seem to have a lucky opportunity
    It looks like a large gear puller used with your heat and a hammer might work well together plus pull up on the junk evenly

    I use anti seize compound on bolt threads and splines. Comes apart easier next you replace parts

    I put a ton of anti-seize on the spline shaft last time I had to replace the lower seal. Makes maintenance a breeze.

    I think some firm hits with a sledge on that metal plate would've loosened the rusted connection between it and the shaft. Just my opinion. The heat was good idea though.

    Obviously you have a tractor if you have a brush hog I'm assuming no loader on the tractor to flip it over?

    The thing you referred to as a plate is called a stump jumper

      Hey he had it off and he didn't put copper never seeze on the shaft before putting it back on.
      He doesn't need to work on this type of stuff himself.
      He also fried all his seals in his gear box.

  • @jamesdannelly6760
    @jamesdannelly6760 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Heat just the blade not the shaft! You don't want the shaft to expand

  • @benjybaldwin773
    @benjybaldwin773 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Once you heat it you don't let it cool off to try it hit it when she's hot... with all due respect I'm assuming mechanics is not your strong suit

    these cutters are very dangerous , you should never use any thing but Grade #8 bolts with lock washers or castle nuts. also you cannot tinten a washer. if you are not shure what you are doing DON'T DO IT!!!!!

  • @jerrychance2185
    @jerrychance2185 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ho hum!!! You are trying to loosen a castle nut. Not a bolt. You guys don’t know a nut from a bolt.

      It is literally a brush hog no one that has one of them just mow weeds with them I have 3 of them sitting out back and none of them just cut weeds it is indeed a brush hog or a bush hog whichever you prefer
