One of the most horrible aspects is the excessive labeling of people and immediately judging them by it. They mention it in the video too: your white, male and straight so that means you are so and so and you don’t have a right to say this and that. If you're of the majority race, male, straight and against equal rights for minorities, females, and LGBTQ then you deserved to be challenged. There's an international far-right movement in the world that uses fascist-tactics to try to get leaders in power who are straight males, of the majority race and religion, and who should not be questioned as they lead to a totalitarian state opposing democracy. That needs to be taken seriously and opposed wherever it springs up.

I'm white but grew up in an immigrant neighbourhood and have been on the receiving end of racism more than I can count. Do not for a second think it doesn't happen the other way. What is the case though is when I bring it up I'm swiftly told to "man up", or "it can't be that bad if you're white", if it's not brushed aside at all. The double standard is incredibly frustrating, and no organisation would take it seriously. I make a point though of focusing on the good people around me rather than cry and moan on tiktok all the time. Life's too short for allowing others to live in your head rent free.

I go with the line in _Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,_ "No politics at the table."
Occasionally, you might learn something from someone with a different point of view, but when just under half of voters in America (don't know about voters for Brexit in the U.K.) look to alt-Right media propaganda (i.e. lying) channels to be informed, we then don't have a common narrative of history and current events. How do you reason with people who don't use reason? How do you cite facts to people that reject them?
Righties claim it's Cancel Culture when college students protest someone being paid to present their views on campus. But why should your college pay someone who's a known liar/propagandist to present a seminar? Of course Righties looked in the mirror to get that argument, because they are the ones that want to shut down speech by those who disagree with their Leader: public health officials, scientists, professors, teachers, journalists, authors, etc. I think that's what McCarthyism was about: call everything communist in order to stop or delay change (civil rights, equal rights for women, labor unions, environmentalism, gay rights, etc.).

She spent a lot of time trying to bully me with political correctness, and she was quite fond of the term. One day, she came to me and said she'd just read something. It seemed to be true, but it wasn't politically correct. "Should I believe something, if it isn't politically correct, just because it seems to be true?" she asked. I laughed and thought she was making a joke. Then I realized she was serious.

There is a focus on words and nowhere in the eqation is the concideration of context, which makes the woke crowd a word-police rather than policing racism, sexism or homophobia. A lot has changed since those days. The content creators were individuals. Today, they're teams or corporations; the exact opposite of what the platform was attempting to offer. Here in 202x, if you're an individual on YT, you have *NO* chance. Not unless you're super hyper bankrolled, which is essentially mimicking being a corporation anyhow. 😂

There's been tribal conflicts in the world for thousands of years, yet never has one religion, or ideology killed as many people as Islam. More than twice ahead of anything else, including both world wars, Mao's cultural revolution and Stalin's Gulags.
Only Islamic war campaigns in India killed hundreds of times more people than all the Crusades combined.

Then the political and social turmoil of wokism and cancel culture began and I gave the left a giant middle finger. I think they have driven many people away and sacrifice older people for the indoctrination of youth to their cause. It is disturbing. I love how they describe what “woke” is and it’s intolerance. If you've read the words of Jesus Christ you SHOULD know that He is a "bleeding-heart liberal." And John Cleese is one of the many unwitting agents for the fascist agenda of the oligarchs, using the words 'woke" and 'cancel culture" to distract attention from the evil rightwing fascist takeover of countries and the globe. Conversely, rational people accept that the world does not have to conform to their feelings and needs. So their thinking is valued for its factual accuracy, whatever the feeling is about that actual truth. The truth sets us free. The pleasing consolation keeps us dependent on the source of the comfort.

Challenges and Critiques Associated with "Wokeness"
    1. **Excessive Zeal**: There are arguments that the "woke" movement occasionally crosses boundaries, leading to a culture of censorship and self-censorship as people fear offending others. This phenomenon is commonly known as "cancel culture."
    2. **Focus on Identity**: The tendency of wokeness to highlight aspects like race, gender, and sexuality is seen by some as a potential source of division, overshadowing the goal of unity.
    3. **Apparent Intolerance**: Ironically, the movement, which often champions tolerance and diversity, faces accusations of being intolerant towards individuals holding contrasting viewpoints.
    4. **Implications for Free Speech**: Free speech concerns emerge as the movement is sometimes perceived to stifle open and honest dialogue, preferring politically correct expressions.
    5. **Corporate Adoption**: There's a perception that the ideals of wokeness are, at times, superficially adopted by corporations more as a marketing strategy than a genuine commitment to social justice.
    6. **Perceived Performative Actions**: Wokeness is occasionally critiqued for what is seen as virtue signalling - where people or organizations publicly align with particular views more for appearance and moral posturing than from deep conviction.

I find it endlessly fascinating about how UK denizens complain about tribalism yet still have eons old grudges based on the same tribalism themselves. What is the practical distinction between English, Welsh, Scots, and even the Irish to the rest of the world? There used to be distinctions of Mercians, Kents, Northumbrians, Angles and Saxons, but now they are all just English. To the rest of the world, the English, Scots and Welsh are just Brits, or evil colonizing whitey's to the "Woke".
Tribalism is baked into Humanity. It seems that an ever evolving post enlightenment society is the only mechanism the modern world has to mitigate it somewhat. But the "Woke" seem regressive in demanding the tribalism and its prejudices be maintained and inflamed at all times.

I looked up its origin a year or so ago, and they said it started as a kind of joke against people who believed we should treat minorities respectfully, (calling them what they self-identified as such as Native American, African-American, and gay) then bigots used the term to discredit this respect, so they could go back to using the N-word, "fa**ot" and whatever they want to call Native Americans, Asians and Jews.

Really pleased to hear Matthew Syed's views on 'wokeness/culture wars'. I agreed completely with him, in particular about the lack of nuance and historical context/understanding, that is evident in so many 'woke' arguments. I had - very foolishly - begun to assume that, (as he was a part of the BBC), he would have been so immersed in wokery, as to be irredeemable!

In America, the Right has lost the majority in nearly every issue of culture they declared war on and progressive public policy in the Democratic agenda. But they hold on to power through lies, gerrymandering and voter suppression to prevent change.

I'm 64 in January and my school pal is 64 next February. She votes Labour, I'm right-wing (I love my country and am English and fight for our rights - but that doesn't mean I'm far-right, plebs out there!!). My friend is as woke as it gets and things she's correct about everything. She's recently cut me off, because I said this country is going down the pan because of illegal migrants being given everything, when our homeless are ignored. I'm kinda glad, because she just always thinks she's correct. Wokes are always the gobbiest, loudest morons. True, like someone on here said, funny how this is on GBNews, who have done an utterly woke thing, by cancelling Laurence Fox, who is incredible and the only person with guts, in our gutless society today.

Lawrence breached his contract of employment that states he should be respectful, which he wasn't (the woman he insulted is vile but his contract says he should be respectful). Calvin then publicly criticised the channel on Facebook and Twitter, when his perfectly valid points would have been better made to them in a private meeting.

I'm 58, male and like you I love England and the land under my feet. But to my woke Brighton trans friend of 40 years that makes me wrong. If I asked him why is it OK to destroy your own country out of guilt he would have lots of justifications, if I asked why aren't other countries with colonial pasts doing the same, he has no answer. Sadly just as brexit did it creates division and rifts. It's very reminiscent of 1984 in many respects, party members and prols, that must make me a prol then.. I'm happy with that.

More people are accused of being woke than actually call themselves woke. I've lived in both liberal and conservative places and the liberals don't talk about it. Then I go back home and the conservatives can't stop talking about it.
It's not some identity that people are pledging allegiance to. It's a label perpetuated by the media (more right-leaning than not) to divide and polarize our discourse, and it's working.

Right. Before denigrating Woke, the term they went after was SJW (for Social Justice Warrior). In America they also denigrated the terms liberal and feminist, and of course few people call themselves democratic-socialists despite how they might admire such policies in Europe.

A great definition of woke. Injustice need not actually exist. Injustice is assigned to some based on genetics and as long as injustices where committed in the past there will be reason, in their minds, for them to commit injustices in the present.

    They know why.
They just want to be right.
    Even when they are wrong.
Even when both sides are wrong/in the wrong. Even when their being right violates the rights of a third party or any other number of individuals whom have no direct connection nor any obligation themselves.
