John Cleese is wonderful. When you don't think there are any laughs in you, Mr. Cleese will find them and bring them out of you. He's like a doctor for the soul.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail was a movie all my friends and I watched over and over and over and over. I remember once we were riding dirt bikes. My best friend hit a rock hidden in the grass and tumbled head over heels two or three times. I raced to where he was laying, fearing the worst. I threw my motorcycle on the ground and ran to his side. He sat up and was holding his obviously broken arm, staring at it, with tears starting to run down his cheeks. I said, "Oh look, it's only flesh wound". He looked up at me with grass in his hair and dirt on his face and busted out laughing.
Yes, people like Cleese love free speech whenever it's in their favour, and will freely deny it to those who disagree or - heaven forbid - have the temerity to challenge them!
Living in the US, and watching Monty Python in 1969 at the age of 12, I was immediately enthralled and permanently deranged. The Python players were absolutely brilliant, and they still are.
"just a flesh wound" that was always our favorite Monty Python skit with my friends (in America). My current favorite is Life of Brian Loretta because it perfectly reflects the insanity of clown world today.
He’s absolutly right about the people at the top not having a clue. Except when you look at your clothes only 30 years ago you'd be embarrassed too, no doubt dodgy hair styles too, but those things the King wears have been worn for 100s of years. So it is normal in the greater scheme of things.

Me too. His definition of a dinasaor, thin at one end, fat in the middle and thin again at the other. Dead Parrot. Is this the 5 minute argument or the full half hour? And my favourite - I wasn't execting the Spanish Inquisition.

John Cleese is always a joy to watch, whether he's acting or doing a talk show such as this. He is so accurate when he says that people at the top don't know what they're doing. That holds true in American TV as well. I've seen it many times.
The English/British at their best have a certain style. I get the impression that americans, especially american TV, don't understand that style, and aren't able to remake it or make something on the same level. Whether it's The Monty Python Show, Fawlty Towers, Doctor Who, The Avengers or Blakes 7, that's why a remake is going to have me down on my knees in no time flat, screaming "Oh no, no, no! Not that!!!" Lord have mercy on us all.
On the one hand he sneers at tradition, on the other he bemoans the fact that London is no longer an English city. You see, Mr Cleese, the latter is a consequence of the former.
I believe the original ceremony was 5 hours long as in the late Queen's coronation. King Charles's coronation was just over two hours. However part of the service is actually religious as the King is anointed and the bible was used and he vowed to uphold the Christian faith. I think the UK should be proud as a lot of hard work went into that day and the days before and after.
Exactly. I didn't include that in my comment, but that is the most asinine conclusion ever made about anyone. It's completely idiotic when Welby's record of statements and ill-advised activism is taken into account
It is thanks to that comic eye that John Cleese, as well as everyone else in the group, have towards things that are in reality silly and ridiculous, and the ability to expose this ridiculousness in the most comic way, that they were always geniuses.
Yeah but that “yes” only got them so far until the BBC put them in the “bin” never to be heard from again, until Ron Devillier at PBS stumbled upon them and brought them to the US and that’s when they really became famous/known. Ron owned the distribution rights until his recent retirement. He’s a super funny man with a good eye for comedy. I’ve known him all my life.
This is exactly how I would expect John Cleese to react to the coronation. And he’s right. As wonderful as the tradition is, it *IS* kind of silly. Never change, Mr. Cleese. And thanks for the laughs!
Who makes these ridiculous decisions? That made me think of the Huckleberry Finn play that used to be produced in Hannibal, MO during the summer tourist season. The character Jim was left out. Duh???????
John Cleese, hilariously funny man and he is right, the coronation was pure Monty Python, unfortunately the dark side of Charles' role as head of the W.E.F. & the coming genocide depleted most of the humour.

John Cleese is always a joy to watch, whether he's acting or doing a talk show such as this. He is so accurate when he says that people at the top don't know what they're doing. That holds true in American TV as well. I've seen it many times.
“as well”? I would say “especially”
No,the latter is a consequence of idiot politians working on behalf of the WEF and UN,just like the idiot they saw fit to crown at the weekend.
