- In this video, I photograph the Burnham-on-Sea Lighthouse in my Fine Art Photography style!
A couple of weeks ago I headed to Burnham-On-Sea to photograph the old Lighthouse.
Erected in 1832 this structure stands proud on wooden pilings and protects ships from high tides. It is locally known as the Lighthouse on Legs and is located close to the estuary of the River Parrett where it flows into the Bristol Channel.
Incredibly, the Burnham-on-Sea Lighthouse oversees the second-highest tidal range in the world. The range is a massive 11m (36 ft). It's second only to the Bay of Fundy in Eastern Canada
I think a special place deserves special photography attention. Hopefully, I have done the old girl justice!

One of the things i love about landscape is that you can shoot the same thing over and over and get a different look, and you can wotk a scene to death and find what "works".
The photos are good medicine and so is Gary’s upbeat personality.
that one at 15:45 is my favorite. Such beautiful subtle work.
Gary, I live about an hour away and in all the time I have been doing landscape photography, I have been there once. I cannot get that over the 'not that bloody lighthouse again' voice in my head. Your long exposures have got me thinking I should go down to the sea again... I think I was up your way when you were down here. Loved my day at Bempton cliffs, not for the landscape but great fun with the gannets, beautiful birds. Thanks for sharing.
I have leukemia and don’t do photography that much anymore. But ur videos, scenery and music is relaxing when my body is hurting.

Beautiful images Gary and excellent video as always. It’s a special place, specially at sunrise / sunset, that I must return to. Prefer the light brown monachrome images personally which have a sepia feel to them. Thanks for sharing @raysimpsonphoto

All superb Gary but the B&W with the driftwood @ 14:55 was my favourite 👌 can’t wait to give this a go in Orkney in August, just need to find a nice subject or two, have a couple of places in mind 😉🤞👌

Gary, you are the master of long exposures
It is truly inspiring to see what can be done, with a modestly-sized lighthouse, in a place with so few terrain features, by calculating tide and sunset times, and working the angles of light. I had considered our Texas Coastal Prairie environment, with the Gulf of Mexico nearby, to be relatively featurelsss and uninteresting, but with high fuel prices limiting travel, it is good to be that one does not need dramatic terrain features to create an interesting image.
In that last bsentence, I meant that it is “good to see” that one does not need dramatic terrain features to create an interesting image. (It seems that editing is not possible, when using an iPad.)
Love the location, love the shots and just love the banter. Spot on again Gary. Thank you. (Give a man a big stick and he will play all day) 😁

Thanks Gary for yet another brilliant video. You present so much valuable information but at a pace that is easily digested. Other TH-camrs should follow your lead. I lived in Burnham for a number of years and was blown away by the long beach and surrounding areas, so much to photograph, yet when I lived there I hadn't discovered the joys of photography. I think a visit plus camera is on the cards. Thanks again.

Hi Gary!
Been to this location on two occasions. The first to catch the sunset with incoming tide. Got the shot but the tide was a high tide which came in at a rate of knots and cut us off. Had to yomp over the dunes to escape and walk miles back to the car. Still had the shot so alls well etc.
Only problem had the wife was with me ,not so one unhappy bunny!
I bet she didn't speak to you for a week 😁😁
Lovely video Gary, the red stripe on the structure really does create additional contrst on the white boards. Would love to see a long exposure of the lighthouse taken from the ocean (during low tide) facing into the shore with the red stripe - maybe with some cloud movement?

What a top spot! Gee, hard to pick my fav image, I'm a sucker for gold so I'd say the ones from the side view for me, that goldish glow is hard to beat. I do like your last image too as I like minimalistic stuff as well. I also like the fact when you show the back of your camera it is oh so familiar.
The final images were highly appealing. Thank you for showing how you worked the scene to get them. You certainly earned the results!

Great vid Gary and really must head west sometime this year to shoot the lighthouse. For me the slightly side on an best as I think it looks a bit more 3D than the side on but like you said, shoot them all and choose after.
