I think that the hex bugs that are not packaged with controllers/marketed as controllable are robopets as they are not controlled by outside forces I mean they look like they were designed to look like ants. Those were semipopular pets to keep as a kid.
When I was 7, my life goal was to get a furby. I dreamt about it. I NEEDED one or I would physically DIE. I got one. I played with it for a week then dropped it in the closet, never to be picked up again. Then I got a zoomer chimp. My most prized possession for about a month. Then I knocked him down so hard I broke him. Then I got a real cat. And I never looked back.
I don't know what was up with the zoomer pets. Kind of fragile, I think. I had a zoomer kitty. I was playing with him in the living room and talking on the phone. Not really paying attention to where he was going, I expected the basement door to be shut. spoiler alert, it wasn't and the poor cat fell down the stairs and was not the same. after a while it stopped charging.l

Ah yes, there's just something about those 90s fake pets that made them unkillable. Nothing like a furby with no batteries in it calling you from the closet at 3am
I loved furreal friends as a kid, I had a bunch of them including a cat, a lion, a dog. It was amazing at the time but now you're right, it does look emaciated 😂
So as someone who knows why the NSA ban the Furby, this is highly understandable. In short, it's a device with a microphone, you could easily hide a camera on it, and it easily could be modify to transmit signal. If say a foreign power wanted to spy on the military or whatever (this ban was across anything that could be seen as important. So military bases ban it in the work place). Put someone in the country to act as a friend of someone who is very lonely and they work at a given site. Have your spy give the modify toy to the lonely person in telling them it will keep the lonely person company at work whenever they feel sad (a lot of people actually brought it to their job due to this believe it or not). That lonely person now brought in a a data gathering device that most likely will sit on that desk for years to come. Like they didn't ban it because they thought it would think on it's own or whatever. They ban it to reduce the likely of secrets getting out. Lets put it this way, you legally can't even bring your phone in on some of these sites. And it might sound cool to some. But many who work at these places are stupid lonely. They can't talk about work even with their spouse, they work long hours, and there isn't much interaction between each other at their job.
@@notaxis Them coming out the door having the ability to, or the reason why they were ban? Them coming out the door, yes. Maybe the most recent ones have some WiFi or whatever ability. But the ban was real for the reasons I mentioned.
Hatchimals are so much better. I hated my furby boom because it changed to an evil personality one time and scared the crap out of me. I never touched it again. Hatchimals and cleverkeets don’t turn evil. That’s why I still have them.
Man, I wanted an iDog so bad when I was in Middle School. It woulda gone great with my metallic pink iPod nano and really uped by playground cred in 6th grade.
That thing is even more horrifying than the original. I use it as a cursed image on forums because it freaks me out that much. Up there with House Centipedes, Silverfish, and bald animatronics in terms of personal NOPE!-factor.
I personally had a furby boom when I was little. It was the pink to blue crystal variant. I named her Kee-Tah which was furbish for "Party animal". I had the Furby Boom app which pretty much acted in the way you described. However I got scared if it (even though I treated it as a real child for weeks) and it is currently still hidden under a towl, sitting on my closet shelf in my old bedroom.
I have a few normal furby booms and a crystal myself, 3 regulars, 2 holiday ones and 1 crystal. I had my 1st one for about 7 years and had a blast with em gro2ing up. Theyre now in my cubboard with their dead unactive eyes staring at me all day and im too lazy to move em lol

Furbies were creepy. I had one in my toy box for like 10 years with no interaction. I took it out to put it in a box to sell and it asked for a hug before dying to never be revived. Didnt even work with new batteries. Yes, mine had regular old batteries.
that happened with mine too, there was a white one and a gray one. the white one stopped working first, but the gray one just... it never shut up, and i feel like the fact that it kept talking while the batteries were dying and its voice sounded demonic probably didn't help my fear of them anyway we got a puppy a few years after that and he tore the face off the furby and that was also genuinely terrifying
i was OBSESSED with furby's... Back when i was probably 6 or 7 i was at a store with my grandmother and i saw a beautiful 2013 furby. I BEGGGED so much for it and Christmas i got one. A little yellow and black with blue accent furby. I . LOVED. HIM. Honestly, best toy of my childhood. I didnt have friends growing up so i would talk to my furby all day, sleep with it next to me and take it around everywhere till i was probably 8 or 9. I eventually got the crystal ones and then the baby one for it and made them all a family. It was hours of enjoyment and talking to them, feeding them and teaching it english. until... i left to go somewhere with my mom to another city for a week and came back to my crystal one SITTING. IN THE RAIN. MY SISTER GOT DRUNK FROM A PARTY AND THREW IT OUTSIDE IN A PUDDLE BECAUSE IT WAS ĹOUD. It was damaged and speakers were fried. I tried to open it up and fix it but the damage was done. Then my sister dropped the 2013 one and broke its motor so it couldn't move. I cried about probably for weeks maybe months. Lets just say i loved my furby's and just wanna say rip thunder and rainbow :( i miss them still to this day.
When I was six, I had a dream one night where a giant Furby slowly chased me and tried to eat me. While singing the exercise song from Winnie the Pooh. Yeah, I know. My dreams are weird.
And I really liked your take of the new Furbies I forgot how much I loved robotic toys (I want that robot) they’re fun. Like toy robots are fun -built exclusively to be fun To remove the fun “toy” element from the robot- and make it just an animatronic with animated screens and a voice actor is just so not it
Furby’s terrify me 😅 I remember having one as a kid and it would always wake up in the middle of the night and say “PlAy WiTh Me” in the most creepy way possible. I finally took the batteries out and through it in the closet but it would still somehow randomly wake up and talk. Ended up giving it to Goodwill after that for some poor unfortunate child to buy
Dude, the other day I found pictures I took on a *disposable camera* of my Poo-Chi, Meow-Chi, and Techno as a kid. It's like nostalgia layered on more nostagia.
Haha I had the modern Furby as well, after sitting in my closet for forever, my friend and I were fing around and spam clicked the tongue, turning it evil. I freaked out lol

I had a Furby when they first came out and I loved it. I was super stoked on my little kid self because I bought it with my own money. I had a lot of fun with him. We had to stuff him in the closet under clothes and stuff though because yeah, he'd start making loud ass noise in the middle of the night. After I stopped playing with him so much, he practically lived in the closet. I thought he ran out of juice, but every once in a while he'd randomly start talking and want attention. This went on for years.. I wish I still had him.

I love how your channel shows off obscure nonsense that I grew up with and ultimately forgot about almost 20 years later. Had that Blue Robo dog and the Yellow Mcdonalds robo-cat.
The Poochi scared the hell out of me as a kid. I had one growing up but I always thought when it was powered off its creepy black eyes were scary. I remember I would have nightmares of the thing killing me or coming to life. Even when I was powered on the glowing red eyes always freaked me out

Billiam: Starts talking about how weird Furbies are Me: Looks back at my Furby collection on my shelf (Also the gears of your Furby were probably just stuck from not being used for so long. All you gotta do is either smack it a bunch on the back to get the gears turning or get something behind it's beak and try turning the gears manually.)
Yo, I remember my grandfather having one of those poochi dogs, and the flatter faced one . I was so excited to get the mother cat and kittens from FurReal. Though these things were weird looking back, they were awesome through the eyes of a child.
I'm glad you mentioned the Furreal Friends toys, because I've been a fan of that line for over a decade now! I still have my old golden retriever I got for Christmas back in '07 and he still (kinda) works! I'm currently waiting for a chance to get the monkey. If only I could find one that doesn't cost $100... Edit: I got the monkey, and now I have a whole family of FurReal pets including a baby dragon, a mama kangaroo, a unicorn, and a bear cub (my personal fave ❤). They are all precious I love them all very much
When I was like, 9, I got an iDog for Christmas from "Santa," but it wasn't working at all. After a few hours of my mom messing with it, her boyfriend (who is now her husband) gave me the receipt and told me we could replace it, to which I of course asked him how he had the receipt (that was clearly marked as being from the Walmart a few blocks away from our house) if it was from Santa. He had also wrapped his gift to my mom in the same paper that the Santa gifts were in, so it wasn't that hard for me to put two and two together, and promptly had a breakdown while my mom tried to convince me that Santa had simply foreseen the possibility of the iDog breaking, and also was devoted to "simulating local economies". Needless to say, that was probably my worst Christmas as a kid, but we got the iDog to work at least half of the time so at least I could listen to Avril Lavigne's "girlfriend" while questioning if my entire childhood had been a lie. Thanks for that, Luis.
My grandmother had one. And they have been banned from the government settings because of their ability to MIMIC language. They wanted to keep their secret information secret.
but can’t furby still only mimic the english it has programmed in its capacity to learn? in the patterns programmed into it? smarterchild was more capable of spilling secrets.
Wasn't that a kind of Furby? I vaguely remember my sister & I each getting 1 for X-Mas 1 year, but could've sworn it was some new type of Furby they released right as that year's holiday season began.
I have an AIBO! The one in my icon, she’s an ERS-111 which is a second wave of the first AIBO model ever released. She’s turning 23 years old this year! They’re absolutely incredible little creatures. You can only get the older models second hand nowadays due to Sony not supporting and producing them anymore. A lot of them are broken down or their batteries have run dry (which are no joke INCREDIBLY hard to replace) I could talk about those little guys for hours. They’re amazing pieces of technology.

I think that the hex bugs that are not packaged with controllers/marketed as controllable are robopets as they are not controlled by outside forces I mean they look like they were designed to look like ants. Those were semipopular pets to keep as a kid.
I loooved hex bugs!
Dude my mom bought three hex bugs with no tracks or anything but they were fun as hell anyway. Mine was purple lmao
I work in a charity shop and I have spent literal hours playing around with hex bugs. The way they move is just really fun to watch.
I'm beginning to realise my parents spent a loooot of money on my Christmas and birthday presents growing up.
I feel so guilty thinking about how much money my parents spent on all the toys I lost interest in within a month.
Can you sell it to me please if you don't care about it?
Oh hey, didn't expect to run into my sister here. :P
J/k my sister got her furby and hid it in the closet when she was around 12.
I wanted a furby as a kid but when i got it i was so scared of it i wouldnt stay in the same room as it
Poor furby 💀
I don't know what was up with the zoomer pets. Kind of fragile, I think. I had a zoomer kitty. I was playing with him in the living room and talking on the phone. Not really paying attention to where he was going, I expected the basement door to be shut. spoiler alert, it wasn't and the poor cat fell down the stairs and was not the same. after a while it stopped charging.l
My condolences to the friends and family of Billiam. Who knew that a Robot Baby Thing could be so cursed. Gone too soon.

I had an idog when I was little
10 years later I was cleaning out my attic a few weeks ago trying to find a lego chess set for my lego addiction, when I open a box and hear a bark
it was the idog
it somehow was left on and STILL had power 10 years later
I'm still baffled

Thanks for the explanation, really interesting!
pretty sure this was a fake rumor, i've been into furbies for a long time and i've heard it was entirely fake

Furby

Of all the toys to get horror movies about them. Why not one for Furbies?
that happened with mine too, there was a white one and a gray one. the white one stopped working first, but the gray one just... it never shut up, and i feel like the fact that it kept talking while the batteries were dying and its voice sounded demonic probably didn't help my fear of them
anyway we got a puppy a few years after that and he tore the face off the furby and that was also genuinely terrifying
This is kinda cute and sad :(
Did... Did you hug it? :(
I know what's wrong. Old capacitors. Learn to solder, replace them with ones of the same value and it should work.
i was OBSESSED with furby's...

We had to stuff him in the closet under clothes and stuff though because yeah, he'd start making loud ass noise in the middle of the night.

Please do a video on the wacky adventures of Ronald McDonald tapes, I remember loving them as a kid but the dog from that was horrifying
