    Hello, viewers
A lot of you are starting with the series from this video, instead of the Introduction.
I would suggest that you watch the introduction first to understand more about this series and its goals.

Use your right hand wherever I use my right, and left where I use my left.
If you're left handed, use your left hand where I use my right and, and right where I use left.
Just don't interchange your hands mid conversation.

Being a final year medical student, i got encouraged by this category of patients so that if someday I encounter a patient who can't speak or listen to me and there's no one to translate....i should be able to communicate with them....so i started learning ASL but then I got to know that there are plenty of sign languages available on the basis of region and being an Indian it is really necessary for me to learn ISL and it is completely a different world than ASL....but it's really interesting to learn everyday....it enhances different regions of brain to hand coordination to communicate.

Hey I am currently learning American Sign Language (I can use it pretty decently) and I did not knew Indian Sign language existed.
I recently discovered this and the question that keeps popping in my mind is "why are the signs so different from ASL if we are using the same letters (a,b,c,d) "
The purpose of language is to allow people to communicate and connect so if Indian Sign language had the same letter and same signs for common things like say house, or dad or son and had a few adaptations to fit indian culture and added some new signs which we needed but did not exist then the impaired people of india would have a chance to interact with much much more people.
Does anyone understand what I am trying to say?

The same reason why languages differ from country to country, it's a different medium but a language nontheless. Ofcourse there are going to be different, there are over 300 sign languages and even more spoken languages. All you can do is accept the fact that differences in languages are going to exist

    Hi, I had some questions...
    1. Does it matter which hand you sign with?
    2. Is there much of a difference between ASL and ISL? Meaning would it be OK if I communicate with Indian hearing disabled people in asl? Or would it be totally different?
    3. Could you recommend an app, or a website that goes hand in hand with your videos, to learn ISL?

I have been wanting to learn sign language for sometime now, what gave me a push was my recent encounter with an employee of the Lemon Tree Hotel . They were deaf and mute. They came in with a smile and were so nice through out the conversation but I felt extremely short handed because I didn't know sign language and used whatever gestures I thought might communicate what it is I meant. So I decided to learn ISL in case I ever need it in the future.

Thank you for this video. I am a MBBS student, a freshman. Being a future doctor I will definitely meet some deaf patients so I don’t want to abandon them because of my lack of ability to communicate with them. For me patients are patients, to know about their problems and treat them well is my prime duty that’s why I am here to learn the ISL . By the way I became curious about sign language while watching a kdrama name Twinkling Watermelon.

The person who made this video knows English well. According to the Oxford Dictionary of English, an alphabet is "a set of letters or symbols in a fixed order, used to represent the basic sounds of a language; in particular, the set of letters from A to Z", and a letter is "a character representing one or more of the sounds used in speech; any of the symbols of an alphabet." Most Indians and other South Asians, even educated ones who speak English well otherwise, don't know the difference. My own grandmother gave me a heart attack when she said that English has 26 "alphabets" instead of "letters" when I was 5 years old. I thought that I actually had to learn 26 different writing systems! The most a language has around 2 or 3. Japanese has 2 alphabets and a set of pictograms called Kanji.

      Hello, Priyanjali.
      Thank you for your interest.
Unfortunately, I am not an expert in ISL, so it won't be possible for me to develop a full fledged course.
However, if I do gain expertise in this, I will definitely consider this.
Till then, I'd suggest that you check the courses offered by ISLRTC, it is an autonomous body under the Government of India. Link to their website is given in the description.
